The only slight worry I had about that guitar was how durable the somewhat experimental finish is, but apparently durable enough. Beautiful guitar, still.

Looking forward to seeing you build guitars again one day Ben that you can then review down the line.

I think it's very brave to revisit your own work with a critical eye 👁️. Kudos to your good self! I'm pleased to hear you still appreciate (deservedly)your superb work, even though you would have a different approach now. That's only natural. Thumbs up!

Ben with fire. Why do I find this perfectly natural, even comforting?

Granny will also know about embossing ink, you can paint or stamp an image with the ink, shake embossing powder over while it's wet, then tip off the excess powder, leaving the image... then apply the same evil cackle and flames and the powder will bind as normal leaving a raised embossed design. And you can multi-layer for more complex image/colour/texture variations Could be an interesting option if you're looking for unusual finishing effects. Apparently this also works for greetings cards... err yeah, ike we care? Nice review, and very honest to dish the same critique to yourself as you do to others 🙂

Do another build Ben. Maybe another PAF Hollow - but with all the ‘points’ you highlighted here addressed

You make modern classics Ben. Keep experimenting! We enjoy seeing the process and results. I kinda like smaller headstocks on a guitar. Oversized headstocks seem to offend my sense of proportion.

Great Guitar Ben I loved that Finish when you first applied it and it looks better with the tarnish on it .

If i won it i would like the heel carved but im not displeased with the Headstock shape or even a video on reshaping it . The old crimson logo has a kinda "top gear/gran torismo " logo vibe going on

“An artist has to learn to murder their children….” I think it was WH Auden who said that(?) One is always critical of anything one has created, either in the past or just a moment ago! The never-ending dissatisfaction of the true artist. I absolutely love the design of your PAF Hollow - (I was smitten immediately I saw it when I stumbled across your website a few years ago and began watching your tutorials and buying tools and materials!) Always thought Les Pauls were just too damn heavy,. To me, this is dream form factor for an electric guitar! Bought a ticket the moment this appeared on the DDG SITE! Great stuff Ben! 🎸🎸🥰🥰☕️☕️

Very true, sometimes too critical. Thank you for your kind remarks and for buying a ticket. Best of luck.

Honestly I really like shape of the headstock, it pairs great with that narrow body. But neck joint looks just super weird, kinda out of place.

I'd like to see this guitar with some old brassy looking hardware and pickups and a matching bigsby type tremolo instead of chrome. It's nice though..

It’s a beautiful guitar. I think that what throws me off with the aesthetic is the plain and basic dot inlays, and no neck binding. Possibly even the chrome hardware… As a lover of Jacksons my whole life, these things have always been synonymous with the cheap beginner models, while the nicer ones have shark fin and binding and black hardware. I know this rule is not universal and these features can be faked on a cheap instrument (even by Jackson themselves!) but it’s still hard to let it go. This is one of the reasons I still have never attempted to build my own 6-string guitar. If I can’t do inlays and binding as nicely as my Charvel DS-1, then what’s the point?

I have an interesting and very difficult idea that I think will be a huge amount of fun for you ben, how about a sashimono guitar, so no glue, just super fancy joints, I think that's the technical term. Maybe no glue is a bit harsh, I can see some minor trouble with the fingerboard arising, but it could make for a very interesting neck joint, or body joint, especially if you used 2 different types of wood for the body with a jigsaw puzzle like joint...

Bit of a long winded question but I'd love to get your thoughts; I heard Tom Murphy recently talking about aging, and how he originally started aging guitars as it helps them resonate better. I also saw you recently whilst comparing those gretschs say that the new one won't resonate as well due to the thickness of the top, making it somewhat like a violin (which, of course, is correct). So here's the question, when you do these alternate finishes I.e. copper leaf, gold leaf, or just anything heavy, how do you feel it effects the resonance? Follow up question, if it does impact the resonance, what do you like to do to counter act that?

Hi Ben and co, are you still making production guitars, or will you be any time soon? You showed something interesting ages ago, a white and black model that seemed interesting

Yeah, that neck joint is really clunky. Everything else looks fine. Personally I like the headstock. But then I like the skinny Gibson "snake" headstock as well, so i might just be weird.

If you use a 7 degree headstock you can get a neck out of 8/4

The rough texture on the top is a no-go for me, along with the copper leaf and neck joint. It doesn't look comfortable to play at all.
