I know about hair, makeup and prosthetics but it's still weird/amusing that Steve Coogan was only 29 here.

I love the Tony Hayers bits. David Schneider just plays it so delightfully straight, it gives Coogan huge scope to do some great stuff.

I think we get the impression that Tony Hayers probably isn't that great at his job though. He does look like someone who works in a bank and he also sometimes behaves in an unprofessional manner.

David Schneider is more of a background actor. He’s appeared in movies like 28 Days Later, Mission Impossible and he’s also appeared in some adverts. He’s quite a busy actor, but a brilliant guy.

Just noticed that here Hayers didn't have TV experience before the BBC( 0:42 ) ..but in the episode of IAP where he dies, Alan is told 'He(Hayers) spent his entire life in TV..and he died fixing a TV aerial.'. not that it matters, but you notice things like this after watching the clips multiple times :)

@@ma-moomoo No Alan has changed. He's written differently now and speaks differently and looks differently. Coogan has got so caught up with creating a continuous story of Alan's life that he fails to realise why the character was funny. The character needs to be locked into this time zone not made 'modern' for the 2020s. The joke of the character was it was a bit of a mashup or parody of minor celeb arrogant/overbearing/awkward presenters like Richard Madeley, John Stapleton, Alan Titchmarsh, etc. What he's done is turn it into something that isn't anywhere near as funny now.
@cerambyx-8
@cerambyx-8 Год назад
@@nudisco300 I agree, Alan has changed particularly since the Gibbons brothers took over from Armando Iaunnci as writers. Back when it was Coogan and Ianucci Partridge was more of wannabe celeb who could never quite make in the mainstream, and like you say was a parody of presenters like Richard Madeley and bad local radio. Since the Gibbons brother's they have matured him in a way that is not consistent with the original character. Alan is now less career orientated and it's more about details of his personal life.

Hm... I'd be more hard-pressed to name an economy without publicly-funded and regulated sectors, and media is rarely an exception. Would it feel any better if broadcast provision and administration was rolled into your taxes? At least this one's optional. Broadcast TV is pretty much being replaced by VOD and streaming-only networks anyway, for which I understand you don't currently need a licence. Skip it if you like, as you would any other subscription service. You ever turned on a TV set in countries without an ad-free competitor, btw? It's ALL commercials, literally every 3-5 minutes.
