CRISIS AVERTED!? 2024 Columbus Good Guys Nationals is A GO!

It looks like we HAVE have some Automotive Miracles and the 2024 Good Guys Nationals Columbus is almost ready to get rocking! Yes there are some changes, yes there are some challenges, yes things will be a bit different at the Ohio State Fairgrounds while construction is happening, but that's not going to stop the rolling party that is Good Guys! As the largest hot rod show in the country, full of american muscle, classic cars, classic trucks, custom machines, and everything in between the team behind Good Guys has been working hard to make sure this event is ready come Friday morning!
As you undoubtedly saw on my previous video, which I very much did not intend or expect to take off like it did, there's a huge amount of construction going on over a multi year upgrade and renovation at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. After seeing how much the previous video took off, and some of the comments and feedback that was starting to fly around I reached out through connections to see what the REAL story was. They invited me down to take a tour, so I jumped in the little black truck and made the quick trip over.
NIGHTMARE SITUATION for the 2024 Good Guys Nationals Columbus has been dealt with, plans are in place, potential issues have been addressed in every possible way they could be addressed. There's still going to be a Good Guys Autocross, but it's in a different location. In fact, it's in a possibly BETTER location putting it front and center as you come in. The "Food Court" area has changed, the cruising strip has changed, a LOT has changed. But we'll still have fun. We'll still cover this event with thousands of beautiful awesome creations. We'll still get to have fun with all our rowdy friends. And the parking lot parties and cruising nights will no doubt be great as always. Oh, and as an extra benefit, Columbus has dial up what looks to be absolutely perfect weather for Friday and Saturday.

The fact that you are riding with Goodguys personnel for the second video shows you what a first class operation it is👍 We had the pleasure from TRISAW Events To help out at the inaugural Dover show. As soon as this all went sideways I used the connections I had to get in touch with the folks there and made the phone call, made sure they understand I wanted to make this happen NOW since it's very time sensitive, and we made it happen. We talked for maybe 10-15 minutes before we started rolling just to understand each other and where everyone was then started rolling. As I say at the end of this, I'm a part of this community and I have been coming to Good Guys my ENTIRE adult life. It's a MUST on my schedule every year. I work in the muscle car world, I would never do anything to intentionally damage this event and I think after they met me they understood that. Before that, they didn't know me from any other random RU-vid Idiot just trying to grab attention. The show will go on, and we'll have a great time no matter what!

Oh don't you worry about that I always do what I need to do, but I also don't want to NOT give the Good Guys a fair shot at showing their side and situation. That's why I reached out to them and made this follow up video.

Thanks for the update so quickly. It was really nice of these guys to spend the time with you and show us how things are progressing. However, I can't help but wonder if this situation of concern could have been avoided. Seems to me that they could have posted some info on their website some time ago. Regardless of whether they thought the work would affect the event or not. Along with some assurances that everything will be tidyed up well enough for the event. We all know how hard these folks work to put on such an event, even in a normal situation. I would hope that they use this as a learning experience to be a bit more forward in the future. And BTW you weren't crying wolf or whatever. Some people crack me up 🤣 like they've NEVER, not even the slightest bit EVER, overreacted to anything 🤣 Your reaction was based on what you saw just a couple days ago. which as we all saw in that video, it wasn't looking all that great. One thing I would hate to admit (only partially), is i kinda agree with the suggestion someone made about changing the title of the previous video. We wouldn't want to cause any more undue panic, now would we Austin 😂

I wanted to get this video out as quickly as possible once people started spreading the other video around and reacting the way they were. My intention was NEVER to make people cancel their plans to come here, I was just trying to prepare people for the facts on the ground. There are big changes to the venue, not just the construction areas that we will have to navigate around and deal with, but the actual layout of the show has changed quite a bit from what it's basically always been. As someone who lives works and plays here, and shops just down the road at Jegs several times a week even I had no idea the actual state of the location. Going down and seeing people breaking up huge sections, concrete trucks driving around, all just a couple of days before the event starts, is NOT a great look and definitely scared me that in true Ohio fashion, we would screw this up. People on the Internet are highly likely to overreact and get dramatic in the comments sections. Keyboard warriors are nothing new, and it's only gotten worse in recent years. On the subject of the previous video, I delisted it so it's no longer searchable, nor does it appear in my published videos, as soon as I did that it pretty much died out. I don't want to delete it, I did nothing wrong and didn't in any way intend to harm the show simply inform people. But, I understand that leaving it up and available as the #1 video pertaining to Good Guys would not help anyone.

@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin anyone with a brain knew right away what your intentions were. I'll admit I was a bit schiddish at 1st too. Not because my truck might get dirty, after 4 hours on the road, it's gonna be dirty. Or how this information might affect turnout, but rather the parking situation. Due to our work schedules and the fact that we are going to Medina for a couple of hours to check out an event there, we won't make it to Columbus until after 2 on Saturday. We are staying the night in the area, then headed home around noon because my wife has to work Sunday night. So basically, we are only available for about 6-7 hours total the whole weekend for this thing. Which is better than nothing given how much I enjoy this event. BTW any chance you noticed my account photo? That is a pic of my truck taken at the event 2 years ago. Now. Had I not known anything about the work happening at the venue until I arrived, I would have been very upset to discover upon entering the venue that there isn't anywhere to park. So again. Thank you for providing some much needed info so that everyone could be prepared for what looked like a real mess.

Looking forward to another great year with the Good Guys in town, especially with the weather coming into line too just in time for the show to start. There are certainly going to be some changes and challenges still but there are plans in place and the show must go on!

That is good to know you didn't make me mad. I was still going to come one way or the other. I love this show. This is my my freaking holiday of the year. It's going to The Columbus good guide. Nationals I don't even live 45 minutes North of it. Marina Ohio and I just love the good guy Nashville. I have a good time every time. I'm thanks for the heads up.

@@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin I think they should have been ahead of the game and sent an email to all of the members letting them know all of the information they showed you on your tour of the facility. I mean, they don't have a problem sending everyone an email when Tee shirts go on sale.

@@troyrice7813 Lol that's certainly a fair point and a part of why I ultimately even put out that first video. I LIVE in this City, I'm 2 blocks down the street at Jegs at least twice a week, and even I didn't know the state for the Fairgrounds until about 15 seconds before I started filming. From the comments that's the biggest thing I'm seeing, is people would have liked some sort of communication on what's going on and what to expect.

That crow tasty? J/k. I figured they had plans to make the site work, but I don't think anyone will consider a site riddled with ongoing construction areas a great show venue. And I sure hope they've got solutions planned for the loss of the a/c and bathroom buildings that offered some respite from the heat. All that pavement without more green areas is gonna make it extra hot. Still, I'm sure folks will have a good time and that future events there will be golden after all the construction is done. I'm more of a BBQ'd bird kind of guy ;) In all honesty my intent was never to risk damage to the show or to push people to change their plans at coming, simply to show the state of the Fairgrounds with the ENORMOUS Good Guys show just days away. There's definitely been a whole lot of work done between when I filmed that and now and I'm glad to see that. There's no doubt a whole slew of questions and concerns left but that's just how things are.

Turner isn't a fly by night company, like many in Ohio are. I was there Sunday, i can tell you they've done a ton of paving since then. Any place that holds as many events as the fair grounds does a year, they have to have a quality construction co, and great crew including the grounds guys.

There's no doubt been a ton of paving done since I was there on Monday, they were even pouring part of what we drove on when I was there checking earlier in the day. I'm very glad to see the progress for SURE. There are definitely still issues but it's way better than it was. It also DEFINITELY helps that as soon as the Good Guys pull out, the Ohio State Fair pulls in!

@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin The fair was originally the only scheduled "no work time" for this job. I'm related to a higher up at Turner, and he made sure to get it scheduled no work after seeing the show 2 years ago. I know he worked with the guy who led you around yesterday, and Goodguys worked w them, but in reality, Turner could've said screw it and worked through the show. I know this person appreciates the update video, and he said he's hoping to get a chance to talk to you. They're even working during fair , they're just doing night shift instead of day, as well as during the quarter horse Congress. Have s great time, I may come down from NW OHIO to see you and the show

When you come in there's a Show Cars line, they'll direct you to the registration lot which right by the main entrance. Park, go in do your paperwork thing, and then back out of the lot and into the "Main Gate" of the show.

I don't think you'll see a venue change, there really is NO better place in Columbus to have this. It's been a great event through the years and the crown jewel event of their calendar. Dunno about a disguise, but maybe. Hopefully folks can help spread THIS message as fast as the other message spread!

There's been a whole lot a work done since last I was in here and plans are in place to deal with what can't be changed. We're definitely in a much better situation than where we seemed to be just a couple days ago! I'm looking forward to a great weekend with all my Hot Rod friends for sure!

If I was bringing my 70 Ram Air IV Trans Am to the car show, after I spent thousands of dollars on purchase and restoration. I would not want to be in a construction area. Frankly, The state fairgrounds has always been a difficult place for a car show. It is fine for The Quarterhorse Congress.

That's honestly a very valid concern and what prompted me to make the original video. This isn't a Power Tour stop, where at a lot of us Hoodlum Hot Rod guys drive thousands of miles in our rides, thrash on them at nights, then drive thousands of miles home collecting bugs, dings, and road grime. This is Good Guys and the best of the best in the build/restoration/custom world comes out for to show off, a WHOLE lot of which will be arriving and leaving by trailer except to drive into the show.

Well I never really TRY to make anyone mad at me, that's never the intent. Just showing the reality of the situation as it was, and after things went a bit nuts with that first video, putting out a quick update to make sure things were cleared up that needed to be cleared up. North Carolina isn't NEARLY as bad about construction as Ohio! :)

Entrances are all the same for cars AND people. There's a major change where the AutoX is, moving up to the front but you'll still come in the "Main Gate" and be able to put yourself wherever you want to put yourself.

Why would you think I don't care? I proactively reached out to them, left work early, shot this video showing EVERYTHING I could so, then hauled a$$ on the edit to get it done and uploaded as quickly as possible. I'm IN this community why the heck would I try to damage it on purpose?
