Thats fantastic the Cristate has rooted so well, and brilliant info on the differences with Cristate and normal growth pattern, none of my Cristates have ever flowered for me either, thanks so much for sharing with us Ziggy, and sending you and beautiful Jackie lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Hans and me for a brilliant Thursday XXXX
That rooted up nicely, Ziggy 😊 All the others looking good, too. Thank you for sharing with us my friend. Have a lovely day from Edith & myself to you & Jackie 🌵☀️🌸🌼🌺🏜
Another great and really interesting video, Ziggy! Your cristate Cleistocactus has rooted very well and it's looking very healthy! I have seen cristate cacti in flower, Gymnocalycium and Mammillaria, but indeed that is very, very rare. I really like how you showcased the "normal" growth forms of a species next to the cristate forms. Thanks for sharing, my friend, and enjoy your Friday afternoon and evening!
I enjoyed that Ziggy!😌🙌I remember I had a huge cereus monstrose in my garden back in N.Z. It didn't grow at all, however the Parodia and Euphorbia canariensis grew immensely
These cristate variations are confusing- do other plants besides cacti exhibit this ‘sideways’ growth? And why do they do this if it seems to impede flowering & therefore reproducing? I could hear your feline friend talking to you in the background! Thanks Ziggy!
I don't think it's a survival advantage, just something that goes wrong. Several plants do mutate, seen Daises and Toadflax with fused stems but not growing sideways. He poo'd in the polytunnel too 🙄 Ta for having a look Diana 😊😊🌵🌵
