He is right, he has a 31 inches vertical , which is higher than nba's average ,(28. Inches) according to ESPN....because the average height in the NBA is probably 6'7" , reason we thought they jumped very high and dunk with ease, but the fact is they can already dunk leaving the floor for abt 22-25 inches... And most of the time we just focus on the athletic players, d.rose, kobe, lebron..... Which might have 40 inch vertical ...but there are still lots of unathletic centre and power forward running on the court.... However, I think Ronaldo could hv done better coz he was only doing a drop step vert and pretty uncoordinated focusing on the pad on the ground.....that's my opinion .....
Sure ESPN lists 28 inches as NBA's average? Cause that's very wrong. Check every years draft combine and the average running vertical leap will be about 35, and maybe the stand still vertical is about 28, but that would also be on the lower side.
chikeokjr24 I find it hard to believe there's no football(soccer) players that has a 40+ inch vert. There's also no NBA player with a 50 inch vert - the highest measured is 46 inches by DJ Stephens. But again, 31 inches by Ronaldo would be pretty bad in the NBA
Jordan and Darrell griffith had 48 and Wilt Chamberlin had 50. There's a lot of other guys in the 40-50 range. Outside of the nba there's a few Pro dunkers that have the 50 inch vertical, Will Bunton and Golden child from TFB brothers come to mind theyre dunks are insane.
chikeokjr24 I'm sorry, but there is no offical measurement of MJ's vertical out there. The 48 number has been floating around on several vertical training program websites for ages, but has no sources to back it up. Conventional math leads one to conclude that Jordan probably had a 40-43 vertical leap. And Wilt 50 is ludicrous. He stated he had a 50 inch vert in an interview once, but he also stated that he had slept 2000 women - just do the math. 7 ft 1 Wilt Chamberlain probably had a 35-37 inch vert. 50 inches means that he could put his whole head over the rim, which he obviously couldn't. Yes, he was an athletic freak in those days, but he obviously didn't have a higher vert than, for instance 5'9 Nate Robinson, who jumps out of the gym. Sorry, for the long answer, but I think we could at least could agree that Ronaldo's vertical is pretty bad compared to NBA players
Astronaut Sloth Beaming With American Pride USA and how do you know players like Gareth Bale, Mbappe, Aubameyang, or Varane are not faster or just as fast?
The average guard without a run up is only about 30 inches. With a running start thats when they get higher verts. Plus a vertec is less accurate. I once a 31inch standing vert in high school on a vertec and I couldn't jump for shit.
ronaldos jumping technique is actually not that perfect thats why he couldnt get more....he brought his hands down after the jump mid air...instead of going forward and above with the momentum. Ofcourse he has a habit of keeping his hands down being a football player.
Plugging his stats in the video into a formula, his horse power output is 2.04 which is pretty average. Using the stats of some of the commenters (45 inch vertical), yields an HP of 2.48 which is great but not elite (3 and above is elite). I have a vid on how to calculate (plus an excel calculator) it if anyone's interested.
The scientists are idiots, Ronaldo should have gotten a long running start. That's when you can jump your absolute highest. Not just from a jump after 1 step like he did there.
+VCthaGOATdunker i'm not so good with jump ruinning, i never trained my technique, i just increase 1 inche when i jump running, and I'm 2 foot jumper, so, standing jump is the same thing for me (I have 27 inches of vertical)
b boy Maybe you're handicapped. What you're saying goes against science. A long running start increase the power, bounce and momentum therefor you jump much higher.
VCthaGOATdunker agree with you, but its probably cause the sensor was so small. itd be difficult for him to get a proper jump without stutter stepping.
31” isn’t great but is probably good for soccer players who don’t train for it - his form was awkward as well. If he was a volleyball player, I bet he’d get to 40”
31 is good for a guy that doesn't often need to jump -- and being real, he didn't get much of a chance for a run-up there. If he had 5-10 practice runs (taking off from that mat is a bit tough I imagine) he'd probably be at 36" +. Heck, just a standing vertical off the mat with arm swing allowed should give him something better than 31 I think.
78 centimeters... Impressive! But he still needs 8 centimeters to take a header from an average NBA player. Average NBA height is ~200 centimeters and Cristiano is standing at 185 centimeters.
Nba average standing vertical no step is 28 inches that's 71 cm, with a running approach it would be much higher and better than ronaldo. Standing vertical jump you're normally allowed to use your arms. This test is rubish, 44 cm = 1.5 times is bodyweight force , 78 = 5 times is body weight force, there is a probleme there.
Let’s not talk about standing vertical because it’s for the athletes who do a lot of lower body strength training like squats, like those track athletes, NFL players, or powerlifters. Basketball and football (soccer) players are good at running vertical not standing. So when it comes to the max, 78 inches vertical is nothing for a 6’1 185lbs athlete. 2.63m is like the height of the basketball net! I can’t believe any NBA 6’1 players whose head can’t hit the net🤣.
Tim Tom sure kid. Tim Tom probably a weekend warrior. There are hundreds of comparisons of professional athletes, nfl, nba, sprinter, footballers that register vastly different vertical jump heights depending on if it's these plates or those tip your finger crap. Just check it. I'm not saying it's the most incredible vertical jump but it's just a fact.
@Tim Tom This is a very stupid test. If he will do this same thing in NBA Or NFL combine then he will jump 40+ inches. And also for your information Pele has 48 inches vertical
@Tim Tom The reason why he jumped so low because he doesn't know the jumping technique and secondly the test itself is stupid, I mean why is he jumping on a pad like thing
@Tim Tom I think this test's main purpose was that how much force he generates when he jumps and the result was staggering because when Ronaldo jumps, he generates 5G of G-force on take-off - this is five times the power of a cheetah in full flight. So I think this test wasn't done to measure his vertical.
It’s a myth that nba players jump high/ their height and arm length gives the impression of height vert but statistically nfl players jump higher and are far more explosive
The average NBA player's vertical isn't that impressive, because they dont need to jump high. They have their height, any average high school athlete can jump 30. My best is 36, Ronaldo could probably hit 36 but he needs to use his whole body, his hands and shit.
he jumped 31 inches that isnt special at all. Average NFL player jumps 34.5 inches at the combine. NBA players compared to NFL players usually do not have great vertical. As in the NFL combine you just under your own power with no steps. THe vertical that we get to see from NBA players is their one step jumps which can typically average about 4-6 extra inches than taking off under your own power. So it shows that NFL players are generally stronger and more athletic than NBA players as one can find out that an NFL players vertical is far higher off standing push. So Rinaldo jumping 31 one one step isnt very good at all
NFL players are more powerful than soccer players, as it is a requirement for their sport. Soccer players need to be more endurance based. Athleticism isn''t measured by power, sorry to inform you. Vertical jump is primarily squat to weight ratio, which a soccer player doesn't need, but an NFL player does.
NBA average is 28 but. Not all have cRazy verticals because they are so tall . So 31 really isn’t that. Impressive. The best jumpers and dunkers in the nba usually have like over 36 vertical jump.
These tests are weird. Idk why he didn't use his hands to give him the momentum like an NFL combine vert. Anyway his jump during the man U game in 2012 was 41.7 inches or 1.06 Meters. The top running vertical at the NBA combine 2022 was 41.5 inches.
Tim Prawdzik you need to convert that to cm its 104cm. Since most of these ppl are probably European or they use the metric system. That 41 doesn’t register as much to them.
You can even jump higher by jumping with one leg. The moment you jump you want to really push yourself of the ground and have your other leg up in 45 degree. If done correctly jump much higher. If you still don’t understand just watch a high jump tutorial.
@@indratpo1470 you are not right bro highest verical ever comes of one feet and its by olympic high jumper stefan holm who is guite short but his high jump record is 2.41 cm
people saying compared to the nba its bad but he's measured from his head. Nba players are measured from there hands. If he could reach with his hands his vertical would be disgusting.
why is his vertical jump being measured on an uneven surface(the floor and the mat are not on the same level), with the mat being so smooth and him being in socks. and he has to jump and land on the mat?!?!?! Thats just a stupid test.
This isn't even Ronaldo's vertical to his potential. The standing vert has no arm swing and you can literally lose so many inches from that. His running vert was barely even a running vert, he got a one step run up so I don't see why everyone's talking
saying "the average nba player" isnt fair because most of those guys are huge and weigh a ton. if you compare ronaldo to nba players his height his vert looks pretty dismal. the average nba guard probably has a 36 inch vert, top tier guards will have 40+ inch verts.
Bro this video was made like 14 years ago😭, he has improved his leg strength since then, just look at his legs and quads compared now compared to this video
The problem here is that a Ronaldo had a running start and he got 78. The average VERTICAL (which is standing in place and jumping) of an nba player is 71 cm. Ronaldo’s vertical in this vid is 44 cm.
@@asura8495when i jump my highest i was 19. Didnt do anything special. Driving bike and did a lot of jumping by playing basketball. I know asura wrath Btw.
38 is very very good honestly. Ive seen the charts, but dont know if theyre created with standing or running vertical jump. so its either very good or exceptionally good for not training for it
@@marcotardini7321 i spent 6 to 8 hours per day training for at least a decade and i didnt think of it as a training, i just liked it and enjoy in it when i was young, my peak was when i was 23 years old and i could dunk two handed from static position below the rim almost effortlessly, i streched a lot and was very very flexible, and the gym was only to get explosivity not muscle weght, i was gaining 2 kg per year and in my prime i was 90 kg and 190 cm
@@JohnDoe-vp4sh If you really hit 42 back in the day then that's insane man, but 6/8 hours per day tranning? You gotta be joking because that's even to much for like super elite athletes or NBA level.
Not so impressive but it's true that the avg NBA vj is 71 cm, and having a 78 cm puts you in less than 1% of population who can jump that high or even higher.
people think his vertical id only 30 inches when in fact he has reached upto 39 inches with his head reaching as a high as 9 feet 4 inches measured by the goal post. he is only 6'1. Hes a freak athlete like any pro. NFL combines are bullshit. These athletes are stronger and more powerful than you can believe and ready yo accept.
Read about that, he ran up and got that vertical, very impressive. But nothing compared to NFL athletes, on avg NFL athletes jump between 36-40 inch standing, and just recently Chris Conley in the NFL combine got 45 inch standing vertical. That's an NFL record.
I'd like to see video of his head hitting 9'4. I've seen him hitting ball hanging on goal post..but that was I think lower than 9'4. pepe, his teammate did jump as high as him as well, if not.higher. I thunk pepe got that first try. but I definitely believe Ronaldo has 39 inch vert. if he had enough room and jumped in basketball shoes on nice basketball court, he would hit that number.
😂 this is about vertical leap ability not size... u can be 5 feet tall and have higher vertical leap than a basketball player. At 20 my vert was 90cm and i could put my head 20 cms close to the rim...
Ofcourse they do, thats what max vertical is they get a running start. And they werent testing his max vertical either or there wouldnt be a matt he needs to land on and he doesnt jump as a header
Average recorded NBA vertical is 27 inches which is 68.6cm. The best standing vertical of the 2017 rookies was Donovan Mitchel of 36.5 inches which is 92.7cm. The only other player to jump 90cm was Devin Robinson - who is in the NBA G-League. Here are some notable NBA standing verticals Blake Griffin: 32inches, 82.8cm Jimmy Butler: 32 inches, 82.8cm Jeff Green: 33.5 Inches, 85.1cm Zach Lavine: 33.5inches, 85.1cm This is all from NBA.com, Hardley any NBA player has ever recorded over 90cm from a standing vertical jump. All this bullshit 44inch vertical is just media hype and well... bullshit.
@@thomhughes6026 D.J stephens has the highest ever running vertical jump in NBA combine history at 46 inches. He only played in 4 total NBA games. This is measured with a vertec which can give 3-4 extra inches by how you reach. So no, no one is doing 46+ inches. Media always overrate athlete abilities. Do you know how fucking high 46 inches is. Measure it on a wall and see if you can get your whole body upright vertical over that height. Ronaldo's is still impressive, because it was OFFFICAL and measured ACCURATELY. Not by a stupid vertec, or media hyped BS.

78cm = 30 inches, which is no where near the height an NBA player jumps, im just 17 years old 5’6 and I have a vertical of ~ 46 inches, and I’m able to dunk quite easily
Think about it the stats afe completly old ronaldo went older and more unatlethic and the nba is more athletic over the years Now ronaldo jumps maybe 25 inches and the nba player 35
@@marcotardini7321 Yea but this is for heading, this is way different than max vert test. Your technique for a header is different, you dont just jump as high as you can you jump to try to head the ball. Also the crazy thing about his header was also how long he stayed in the air. When u test ur max vert you do it while running, he did 1 step here. I tested my vert before and this is completely different. My guess is his max vert would probably be around 35-37. Maybe closer to 40 if he does explosive jump/max vert training for a few weeks. Not to mention he was focusing on having his feet on the board here.
@@marcotardini7321 Are u not able to read? A header is not ur max vert. And why would he jump higher if the ball is at 256cm you want his head to be over the ball? youre making no sense. Im guessing his max vert would be around 36-37, if he trains for nba max vert/explosive jumping he'd get close to 40.
