Finally finished this baby off! Wanted to pay homage to an amazing show by starting at the beginning. Original Episode: • Curious Beginnings | C... Music: Peter Crowley - A Tavern For The Night
She would do that. If the show were animated! Which it's NOT! (I don't hate the first season for getting priority, it's what the show was built on, but, dammit, i want season two to get a pilot!)
to be honest, if Nott wasn't played by a assgrown man would be super adorable too, but then Wouldn't be Sam riegel the one playing her, and that would be more a loss than a win xD
@@millo1095 There is no way they didn't know that. They're saying that the delivery of "SEVEN" by Marisha was an excellent set-up for Laura to react to, like an alley-oop in basketball.
it helps that laura had already gotten to play as Jester in at least one other session to get a feel for her, everyone else was still settling into them.
The moment when Nott puts her mask on as soon as she realizes Jester is talking to them is like, the epitome of attention to detail, and I absolutely love it. So well done
@@werewolftapus7630 Nott is a goblin in the middle of the Empire (where Goblins are not very welcome) so she has a porcelain mask she uses as a disguise while walking in public to conceal her goblin features and appear more halfling. She's just trying to hide her facial features.
meanwhile, in scotland (specifically Limmy's show): "Kill Jester." [...] "It's my money. It's my game. Kill a'." "But-" "Do it." *Hesitantly """strangles""" Jingle* "Jingle's dead. Game ova, thare's no more way to-" "well worth it mate, well worth it." *hangs up*
The other two laughing at the table while Jester bugs Caleb and Nott is awesome. You always kind of think of them laughing as OOC, but the idea that they're trying their damndest not to burst into laughter as their companion does all this crazy shit is even better.
"how much silver did i just get?" "Seven!" "Wooohoo!" -And that is the same Girl who later complains About never being so poor when she just made over a hundred Gold xD
uhhhhhh WOW this is AMAZING, the movement and the personality is evident in every bit of this. i love that jester drags her chair to caleb and nott and the angle & look on her face when she introduces herself is SO fitting. and the way caleb and nott lean away from her at the end when she gets even closer?? fantastic. i'm going nuts this is such a gem
like deadass im a newer watcher, seeing their interactions since day 1, the chemistry was strong. they bounced so well off eachother, polar opposites in both personality, financial situation and interests and yet they try so hard to understand one another. they bring out wonderful sides of eachother that were otherwise unseen, they teach eachother lessons, keep eachother in check attitude-wise. i kinda spoiled myself by reading jesters wiki and seeing fjord listed as her boyfriend, so knowing that information seriously upsets me 😭
The celebration over 7 silver is pure enough on its own, but with the additional context that her mom is rich and realistically Jester has a lot of money too makes it that much better. It’s only 7 silver, but she earned it, and is therefore excited
fjord, and beau I understand...but Jester? She's an artist, overly nice and energetic, and likes cute things. she would be ostracized into the weird kids table. Nott and caleb would be the quiet kids
@@bretsheeley4034 What? Jester is ripped. Everyone forgets that at this point Jester had +3 strength, while Beau and Fjord didn't have +1 between them. Jester was Head Jock at the jock table.
@@bretsheeley4034 Oh definitely. Cheerleaders are strong, but their strength is less pronounced and compact. They have useful muscles rather than show muscles.
Everything about Jester seems to be directed at making her adorable and fun. Her wagging tail, her fangs when she smiles, her sheer energy (probably from the baked goods!) I love Jester. Laura Bailey's best and most iconic role in my opinion.
I think that is indicative of how the "straight man" in a comedy duo is over looked. Vex was one of the "straight men" in Vox Machina, Grog and Scanlan largely stole the show.
I can't stand the character myself. Impatient, immature, demanding, rude, obnoxious, talking over other characters as they try to make the best decision while jester is demanding they take the least intelligent course of action possible. and the voice laura uses just kind of makes it worse. I'm aware I'm the minority, but damn how did I get so unlucky to hate the character so much while everyone else loves it? lol. Laura is great, but I really dislike this character. it's like nails on a chalkboard every time jester is in the spotlight.
They were dividing money the three of them did on an off stream session to set up their characters. That's why they were talking about how to divide 4 gold between three people, they also had silver and copper.
@@aotearoa_goose3261 Nah, there was an actual amount of gold, silver and copper they all got to divide. 7 silver was the 3rd share of silver of what they got.
I’ve just come back to this video after roughly two years because, after an ungodly amount of scrolling through my youtube history, I’ve determined that this animatic was the very first thing I ever saw to introduce me to Critical Role. I thank you for making this wonderfully done animation and for opening the door to this amazing fandom that means so much to me today. 😊
Its either due to the fact that he revisited material to relearn it, or the fact is that liam is actually so keen on his character, that the accent you hear here is the one of him "hiding" his accent, he brought up that Caleb's masking of his accent was confronted and he said it was the mask, and now that he is out of the empire he could just be going into a real accent, instead of a faltered one since Caleb isn't going out of his way to hide his voice now.
MrBlazedice Liam has been very open about how much he experimented with the voice from episode to episode at the beginning, before settling on the voice he thought worked best. There wasn’t a big plan with how he used the voice; he just played around until it felt right.
KJSKLFJDSL THE CHARACTER ACTING IN THIS!! it's brilliant, wow. i adore her picking up the chair while shes still sitting in it to move closer. that was genius. also really nice consistent following of the 180 rule!!!!! very inspiring stuff, definitely a sub from meeeeeeee
@@30ART5 It's a film making thing. Basically it's about people interacting always being on the same side of the frame even if they leave and re enter it. It's a breakable rule but it helps with coherent visual story telling and it's a lot easier not to mess it around without good reason
@@30ART5 the 180 rule is a sort of guideline that states that characters should maintain consistent orientation on the screen to lessen confusion and make it easier to follow for the viewer! say if a character is shown to the right side of the screen, they should stay appearing on the right side of the screen. it's easier to explain with an image, and it makes More Sense why it's called the 180 rule when you can see a diagram, so i recommend giving a google if you're curious to learn more!
The way you make them move especially Jester’s (look at her tail OMG!!!) and Nott’s movements just captures their personality! Every little detail in this was greatly enjoyed down to the subtle actions like Beau and Fjord waving at them and all the little shifts in all of their expressions!❤️👌
I love the moment of "It's true, we have a hard time seeing things that aren't moving...but I can hear you." It's like threatening and adorable at the same time!
Wow I've watched so many animatics of this moment but yours is SO good! I love the personality that shines through in each character, especially Nott when she's describing all their different cons
Spoiler under the thing! (Kinda) Watching this now knowing about Caleb is amazing. The fact that Liam stuttered when saying his name “it’s uh C-Caleb” plays so well into the fact it’s not his real name. “Its not my real name. It’s just the name I gave you” phenomenal foresight by Liam. Love his acting.
God this is so amazing?!? I really like the way you draw Caleb and the little details (like Nott’s eat twitching and Jester’s tail) really bring this animatic together!! I also really like how you did their facial expressions!!
I'm JUST getting into Critical Role and that chair walk was SOOOO CUTE AND CREATIVE I also super loved all the cute faces you managed to pull off in just "Hi, I'm Jester!"
Hi, yes, I loved everything about this. From the character designs to the quirks and ticks that perfectly portrayed their personality. You're awesome and I hope you have a lovely day!
Haha thanks for noticing! It starts to drip like really thick poison and then before it drops off she pulls it back! She'd never hurt her baby, she's too dexterous for that ^_^
I have watched this a thousand times in a row, there's just so much to it and it's so fantastic. Thank you so much for your hard work and time to create such a master piece
I've just gotten into CR, only on episode 9 rn. This is such an amazing animation, so many small things I love, such as the others laughing as Jester introduces herself, or Nott acting out each con idea.
this animation inspired me to finally try and listen to critical roll i've always been put off by just how long the episodes are but how you animated the characters really made me excited to learn more, it's been two days but im working my way through the first episode and loving it so far!
Completely fantastic. One of the best animatics of this scene I've ...seen. Great touches in the acting animations - the chair wobbledrag is priceless, as is the WOO! :D
For your first video, you really came out with some flawless work, even out-did most others who've tried to reenact this scene through their animation (in my opinion at least lol). The personality of the characters really pop in this, especially the "hi, I'm Jester!" bit with both the movements and cute expressions. If you keep making animations like this and improving even more on video and art quality, I can def see you having a future on the platform! 👌
I want you to know: I saw this animation before I even knew what Critical Role was. I liked this animation so I then later on checked what the source was and then you got me into CR. 4 Years later and I'm still a critter and I've got you to thank.
