Im Irish, this is an eye opener for me. We have 200,000 refugee's in this small country. We have no where to put them, they are getting housed. Pre famine Irish people were tall, stronger and had a better diat than their British counterparts. Mortality rates were lower and generall people were living 7-10 years longer than post famine.

Serious question. If not them then who. I am in Ireland close to 20 years. Yes am import but no asylum seeker. I started with literarily nothing in Ireland. Lived for a while from a suitcase. Nothing came free. I worked hard and as many Irish a lot is taken away from ones earnings especially since 2008, the rents, the cost of living etc are horrendous. I can understand the Irish people. I am not right winged (not saying you are) but i can really understand where the unhappiness comes from. I am with you in this. This current government ruled way too long and ruined it for the common people living and working in Ireland (natural born and naturalized). Never Fine Gael and Fine Fail and Greens. I am just scratching my head...then who..SF is bigger opposition party and therefore higher possibility to be in next election, So then the smaller parties and independents...but that is then not good as it is divided and too small. So possible that FF FG and GR will be ending up in ruling again which will be a disaster. Its an impossible situation.

I invited a friend who had in her country cared for me after a hospitalisation. I assisted her to apply to the Irish Consulate in her country for Holiday Visa as a means of saying Thanks by giving her a holiday in Ireland . I sent proof of my Bank Statements where I had a Solicitor to put a stamp on the Truth of my means showing that she would not be a burden on the State . She included all of these facts in the submission . This lady works for an International Company with a responsible position in the Company and supplied proof of this. The Application was refused which was a huge embarrassment to me . I am in my 70s born and reared in Ireland . To see this illegal migration into the country where people are provided with assistance after coming here illegally without passport or Visa is so annoying after I and my friend had provided all legal documents and yet was refused a Holiday Visa . Irish Citizens are becoming second class citizens while these illegal migrants seeking protection have no regard for applying lawfully yet receive the assets of the State by way of Taxpayers money .
This is not about hate speech it is about silencing diversity of opinion. Intentionally harmful behaviour is what should be criminalised not speech. Great to hear an intelligent well informed fellow countryman explaining what many of the rest of us think.

As an Irish man living in the UK, delighted to see one of the people of sense from back home getting a hearing. To illustrate how small Ireland is, I knew Lorcan in my early 20's. I would only like to emphasise what Lorcan said about the establishment in Ireland - it is small and mono-cultural in the extreme. Things are bad in the Uk at present but there is multiple establishments in the establishment. Ireland does not have a Telegraph v Guardian, GB News v Channel 4 News. All newspapers and media in Ireland are the same. All political parties have the same policies but different leaders (personalities). That is why, in Ireland, when it goes right, it goes really well (the education system), but, when it goes wrong, it goes very wrong.
Who would have thought that the most conservative, not to say backward in social attitudes, country in Europe would become the most avid proponent of wokeness? De Valera must be turning in his grave.
