@randmorf Yes, social dysphoria. When I was much younger I was painfully shy, couldn't keep friends, dreaded boys who took an interest in me, and just couldn't behave like a 'girly girl'. Even though I was a straight A student, my mother was always comparing me to my two older sisters, saying 'Why can't you be a normal girl?' My grades weren't acknowledged, only my painful introversion. I was in my 50s when I finally saw an ABC (am Australian) documentary about Aspergers, and the penny dropped. I saw a clinical Psychologist who diagnosed me with Aspergers (now known as Autism Specrum Disorder).

Virtue signalling is what it is but cases are coming to the fore with nurses taking legal action in Scotland and England over men in female changing rooms. Call them up and ask if they'll support eg Alzheimer cause and rights for a month or stand up for the rights of people under going cancer diagnosis. By having no flag whatsoever, (at a hospital, a cafe, a charity shop, etc etc) should indicate that everyone is included.

Individuals can feel how they feel about their bodies but it's physically impossible to change sex.. using the opposite sex's pronouns won't change that and it's merely hijacking them falsely. Trans persons who have gender dysphoria need to create their own new pronouns and their own separate spaces if not comfortable in their own sex spaces, not hijack the opposite sex's spaces asking THEM to change their pronouns...women and men don't need to be identified as this nonsense CIS.. Far more logical for the tiny minority to identify themselves as either heshe..or shehe. Everyone would know then that they are a 'trans' person. A male who is living as how they feel themselves to be a woman, or a woman living as how they feel themselves to be a man. And create their own sports and spaces. @@carltaylor6452 science is not an ideology, correct - but the policies are not made by scientists, they're made by ideologues who choose the policies that align with their ideology and, to the extent necessary to maintain the ideology, align with science. Sometimes, ideologues will ignore science entirely, if it conflicts too much with their ideology, or they'll grasp onto the science for dear life if it aligns with them. Scientists are amazing, the best of humanity - unfortunately, they know better than to try rule us :)

All policy also has evidence as part of its basis (the bad policies usually end up having shoddy evidence), but I think the ideology forms a bigger part of the basis, so big in fact that some ideologies have cemented themselves so hard we needed wars to end them, despite them having no evidence in their basis (such as racial segregation, fascism, etc.) And even then, I didn't say ideology is without question the only influencer of policy - I said that all policies are based on ideology IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER. Science and evidence may influence policy, definitely, as does law and other aspects of reality. But the policies are still BASED in some way or another on the ideology of the ideologues who create them. And ideologues will follow science and evidence as little or as much as needed, depending on whether it supports their ideology. If you give different groups different rights and privileges, self definition of membership may not be the perfect solution, but shurely a better one than complete foreign definition. Foreign definition gives the state a kind of power which it shouldn't have. I say this as a German, Germany once had a state definition of what was a Jew, you should know what followed.

To add, that state definition was as arbitrary as sex assignment at birth sometimes is.
