"Don't let the opinions of a person on the internet - in a crab headband at that - get you upset" - 🤣🤣🤣 I love your sense of humor and perspective when it comes to the skincare/beauty space 😍
iope is actually very well known for their retinol formulations , in fact it js one of the first korean brands to research and formulate with retinol and the retinol expert cream (its actually a cream not a srrum xd)is backed with more than 30 years of research and multiple studies, clinical trials , potency/delivery/ purity patent technologies etc and has won multiple international and national scientifically acknowledged awards for it -
I have combo, dehydrated, somewhat sensitive skin with occasional breakouts. Many different concerns than your skin, but I watch your videos because you are simply a gem LOL it would be really cool if you had “joint” reviews, where someone with a different skin type tested the same product for the same amount of time.
I’ve thought for a while that it would be so interesting to do my brand reviews with greater than an n=1 lol. Maybe someday we can figure out how to crowdsource thorough reviews!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole have you ever watched the American Test Kitchen Gearheads segments? Maybe that kind of format with someone you can collab with? Too bad your girlfriend isn’t much into skincare lol
I agree that foreo luna is a good skin cleansing device and I was like - no need to buy the new one, but went out and bought Luna 4 (I was using mini 3 for a while now) and there's actually difference - the bristles are softer and this one has massage modes. I like this upgrade
All respect to the Beauty of Joseon retinal serum. I am also sensitive so I use it as my face and neck retinoid. I love it, it works so well but so gently and has great supporting ingredients. 2000/10 recommend, especially for people who are intimidated by retinoids
Years ago I (on my own) realized that these products MUST have paid for their inclusion (🤪), but no matter-I truly enjoy the entertainment and education I get each year. Though I did indeed cancel my Allure subscription. I love your take, btw!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole it's very hydrating. It's a slightly thicker texture. I call it fat water. Not quite a serum texture, but thicker than runny regular water texture.
@@AliceintheRabbitHole it seems they only really cover the americanized side of k-beauty with brands that have tailored their marketing to american audiences, partnered with american retailers, and sell for american prices. no deep cuts coming from them.
Your channel is the best❤I just found it last week and I’ve been binge watching ever since. Im also a wedding hair and MUP artist and love this information/channel to pass on to my clients.
I love adding a few drops of Biossance squalane oil to my Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate cream at night. My dry skin still feels super moisturized in the morning, even on retinoid nights. I do it basically every day which is why that oil is one of the few non-K-beauty products I use lol.
Alice, I can't stop looking at the list of products and I think I will find better and cheaper products in the world of k beauty. I don't know the products, but I don't find a list of promising active ingredients, but pure marketing strategies, for example that vitamin mask doesn't make any sense to me, because 30% ascorbic acid does not fit the effective concentrations, which is up to 20 or 21%. If I could have included something to the list it would be Avene retrynal. Take care of yourself and may you sleep better this week 🥰
Yup and not just less expensive, but better! For example, my favorite moisturizers and cleansers are *not* expensive, but they serve me well! Thank you so much, you know I actually started sleeping finally 🥹🥹 such a relief, let me tell you lol!
I bought la roche spf in Paris because it's so expensive to buy here and even to import European skin care unless they have a factory here like Eucerin.
I haven’t tried so many products on here, & I wish there was such different products on there too! I do love the hero micropoint patches more than any of the other ones that I’ve tried.
Good video.. 😊 Thank you. I just feel those types of lists are fixed..and btw, we can get adapalene (Differin) in Canada, just need a prescription for it.
Please make a video on recommendations of k beauty products without hyaluronic acid. My skin seems to be sensitive to hyaluronic acid whenever I have it in too many of my skincare products or if I use too much of a product with it (this in products where there are no other active ingredients and generally a very simple ingredients list). A few other youtubers have mention experiencing this themselves, but if they made product recommendations, they were either quite expensive or unavailable where I live. Unfortunately brands sneak hyaluronic acid into almost everything. It's a similar story for niacinamide where it's in a lot of products and yet many people are sensitive to it so that could also be a video idea.
Ooh I did both of those videos a while ago! (They’re titled “hyaluronic acid/niacinamide alternatives” respectively). But it has been a while since I’ve done those. Although it’s still true how hard it is to find products without at least one of those ingredients 😔
Ok, since we have almost the same skin type, dry, acne prone and a little sensitive (I also have rosacea & melasma) and I'm 54 years old. I would love to know if you like the Klavuu Lip sleeping pack in vanilla. I feel this has done wonders for my lips. Thank you and many blessings!!! 💖💖💖
all of allure's coverage seems very... paid for. i don't like them. they only ever seem to dish out praise and rarely talk about the downsides of a product, and most of their recommendations take no consideration to price.
Yup. I get suspicious when I never hear about *any* potential cons. It’s impossible when we are talking about skincare (obviously, as dry vs oily skin types alone have different needs - and that’s just the start of where experiences vary!!)
Okay, so, I’m, like, olive skinned (a light olive, but still). And La Roche Posay’s tinted sunscreen left me ORANGE. How in the world did it not look orange on you, and you’re fairer than me? 😂
When I first started looking at skincare I was getting samples from the stores and I got a bunch of the Dior samples. Given that these were single use samples and I maybe had 2-3 for any product there's no way I could review performance, but my initial impression of everything I tried was that it was nice. At the time I couldn't justify the price for the product (I still rarely would, but only for much more efficacious products given the Dior ingredient decks), but it strikes me as a brand someone may really enjoy if they're into superficial skincare.
I don't know where they come up with some of the products...There is a serum a few have been just raving about. Maysama Green Rooibos Pressed Serum. Could you consider doing a review on this product?
Sorry for the serial comments lol. I'm commenting as I'm watching. Now I have read that you can get L-AA effects from products spending a short time on your face. It does absorb. Have you heard of the trick (I wanna say its the 3-minute Ordinary trick or something similar) that uses the Ordinary 23% L-AA Vitamin C plus HA spheres. Which is a super strong and super grainy Vit C product. It feels and looks more like a paste than a serum. Anyway if you gently apply and rub it into your face, almost like a scrub, the lightening/brightening effects are almost immediate. (Be careful of this is you have very sensitive skin, tho. Maybe use it for 60 secs instead of 2-3 min.) Anyway, point being....I'm not at all surprised that the Kate Somerville Vit C. mask is good, and I'd live to try it. (And she's known for quality products for the most part, despite the high prices)
Haha thank you! I got it on YesStyle AGES ago, so I’m not sure it’s still there. Just kidding I searched crab headband on there - they still have them 🦀😁
I also only recently tried that tinted mineral sunscreen! I honestly love it? But in a very specific category which is "days I collapse spf and foundation." I think the finish on this one is prettier on me that the Paula's Choice. But I don't know if the tint would work for everyone.
ah yes...rules for some...and rules for others...hmm...not the same...are they? Just wondering why we even bother with "rules" anymore...rules REQUIRE consistency.
I use the Bouncy Brightfacial everyday, and also wondered why they didn’t call it a moisturizer - until I realized it’s because it’s not moisturizing! It IS drying, and I very much need an actual moisturizer after. So maybe that’s the reason for the name?
So, short contact therapy with vit c... I suppose some derms would say that's fine but that seems like an expensive product to do that with. Re: the LRP sunscreen filters, the EU versions of LRP have different filters like UVMune which a few derms (dr jenny liu, tea with md, dr dray and even glow by ramon) have reviewed.
I am surpriced it is a Pay-to-win award and even more so that magazines have different rules about sponsors than other influencers o.O😳 So intresting with the k-beauty vs la roche possay sunscreen pricing. For me BoJ is the same price as my lrp and skin1004 is considerably pricier.👁️👄👁️ I wont repurchase the skin1004 since i got a very mild sunburn using it - imo i should not have (i also won't repurchase boj since i assume spf won't be high enough for me on that either). I wore plenty, i added a layer waited 30 minutes then another layer, i wore a hat and sumglasses, was outside after the sun hit it's peak (not active while outside). I was outside for 3 hours (no reapplication). I have used a lot of sunscreen since i was a kid and this is the first time an spf 50 has failed me so throughly. It feelt like spf 30. (still good for most people but not for those with fair skin. So if your skin is fine with am spf 30 you might love it. Im not saying it is spf 30 but ime it did not perform like any other spf 50 i have tried let alone spf50+. Hence if you use it like you would an spf 30 i think you will be happy with it) For low exposure days i will in the future probably try j-beauty next time since they make sunscreens for outdoor activity (i have a theory the staying power is what makes an spf 50 feel like spf 50 and not spf30 to me). Also as with any skincare YMMW so not saying people should stop using skin 1004 just that i will 🤷♀️
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Shani Darden Triple Acid Signature Peel if you ever try it out. It made the Allure list (which I don’t usually give much credit) and I haven’t really seen any in depth reviews but I am intrigued by getting 8 treatments for the $125 price tag.
I'll just say my opinion and....regard? of both Allure magazine, their editors and their "best of" list is very different now than it was, say, 10-15 years ago. There was a time when Allure really was on the cutting edge of skincare and beauty. I think that the internet in general....especially Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, etc....kinda diluted that influence. And their editors tend to change every year or two. Not to mention they seem to be getting younger and younger all the time. (I'm SURE that's it, and not me getting older 😂). And I really get the feeling when reading these issues that there is some kind of quota- like, the editors really want to make sure that certain brands are mentioned *somewhere*, even if just in what feels like throwaway mentions.
Bahaha, have you seen college kids these days? They look like babies! I very much suspect that some brands are crammed into this list. I didn’t want to speculate too much (so as to not have to say “allegedly” constantly lol), but I wouldn’t be surprised if brands try really hard to form a nice “friendship” with Allure.
I see your point in regard of LRP.. BUT the defence against uva rays is sooo much higher than in the asian sunscreens... we should not compare them 1:1.. at least not the one of LRP sold in the EU (i'm swiss).
I tried a sample of that CD serum and omg 😳 I had to wash it off as soon as I put it on it burned so bad so much perfume and alch in it I literally washed my face 3 times and couldn't get the smell to go away and by that time I totally stopped my skin between that serum and washing it was bad. I don't know who really uses that and enjoys it and the price .
The damdam cleanser is a Japanese cleanser made by 2 people living in Japan but not ethnically Japanese If that makes sense. So maybe that one would be decent? Other than that mehhhh..I used to LOVE allure best of beauty skincare but idk what they’re doing there now. Seems like money has lurked its way into the list ❤
I have to say the DE Bouncy Bright Facial has been sooo good to my acne prone, Tretinoin using skin. I alternate nights with tret, this aza acid and an aha and I always love how my skin looks the day after this Az acid. I want to try using it in the mornings sometimes bc it controls and calms breakouts so well. Prescription AA used to itch and sting. This formula never does for me. I don’t use it as a moisturizer. I apply it as a last step after my moisturizer so it never feels dry Unrelated- do you have reviews on any PHA products? I’m looking at the Medik8 press and glow 5% PHA toner. Ingredients look great but hardly any reviews on it. Thoughts on that product?
Oh interesting, thanks for sharing! Did it feel initially drying and you adjusted? Funny enough, I’m trying to get through that Medik8 toner at the moment. I initially really liked the pump system (you place a cotton round over it and push down), but over time, it’s become less consistent in pumping. This could be a me problem though, maybe I broke it somehow lol. The formula is nice!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole no it never felt dry as long as o apply over my moisturizer. I’m not terribly oily though or dry. How do you like the toner? Any positive changes or just meh? Do you use it daily? I’m thinking every morning but idk…
AHC is especially known for their sunsticks. (One of them even appeared in Emma Watson’s whats in my bag video 😂) The one in black packaging is really popular among the Korean skincare communities. Also, the pronunciation of IOPE is IOP-“eh”
I had such a sad story with one of their sun sticks. I thought I looked up the ingredients, but I was looking at the wrong product. Sadly, I bought one that has an allergen of mine 😢 Thank you!
How long does it take for kbeauty products to ship to the US? Ivr checked our several of the sites and im ready to order, but is one site better than another?
Stylekorean is fastest, but their selection is limited. GREAT place to start though if you’re new to K-Beauty and making a big order (shipping is $20, free over $80) YesStyle is second fastest. They tell you a very good estimate of how long your order will take to ship. Ie if it says ships in 24 hours, it will (and 7-14 days, and so on). Express shipping is an extra 3-5 days, and standard shipping is an extra 2ish weeks from the shipping estimate (shipping + transit) Stylevana is slowest but they have the best prices out there. Your order will take between 3 weeks and…a few months 🤐. I recommend them for skincare enthusiasts, who want the best prices but aren’t in dire trouble if our order takes a long time! I also have much more detailed videos about them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qtvLceuKiig.htmlsi=KsFRCgteUGZ-8pv1
Yep! I think it’s an excellent option, with the only thing to consider being that it may not fit a larger face. If you have a smaller face, it might be your best fitting option! It does have blue light as well, but I think it’s more for occasional breakouts/targeting red and infrared therapy
I feel like everything being gifted to the editors is already pushing bias. I certainly am not as critical of expensive products if I got them for free! When it's my own money, I have to justify if it's effective enough to purchase
Ah it was a story, my mistake! I was very mad about how horrible it tasted Interestingly, I got quite a few replies in agreement, but one reply from someone who liked it and was happy it had no flavor/scent. It goes to show how experiences vary, but overwhelmingly it seems most of us do not like it!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole no worries 😊 ah ok I'll bear that in mind did you notice any plumping effects? Really want to try it but afraid it's all hype and no results 😅
Well, I didn’t, but it’s because of how much I can’t stand the taste. Sadly I threw away the box before I tried it so I can’t return, which means I’ll be using it up as a cuticle oil 😅
Potentially dumb question: When vitamin c products oxidize, do they damage the skin or just not help the skin? If they dont damage the skin and have other ingredients that are beneficial, why not finish them?
Just because i have heard everyone say to toss them when they are brown but i was always confused about if they had become toxic or just no longer effective as a vitamin c
At best, they are no longer functioning as antioxidants (meaning you aren’t getting defense against free radicals from the environment, UV, etc). At worst, particularly more pronounced oxidation, yes it could potentially damage the skin.
Wow I can’t use any of those things no lemon or orange peels ever again!!! Why are u trying to rip my face off Allure 🤣🤣🤣 they need a sensitive category … on a side note I just tried the Tatcha Rice Wash and my face is super soft!!! Then I can’t use the moisturizer 😕glad I looked before I bought the duo 🤍🤍🤍 if it’s brown flush it down!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m dying laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You’re not going to believe this but guess what: they did have a sensitive category 👀 not sensitive enough if you ask me! I like Tatcha’s cleansers but am not in love with their moisturizers (money saved LOL!)
Allure's Best of Beauty is meh for me, though I still get the subscription box, makes nice gifts. It's really more for Sephora shoppers, which isn't me. The Monodist did a video some time ago about AHC Real Eye Cream for the Face, was a big deal in South Korea I guess. I bought it, tried it, it was fine, finished it up on my hands. As for the LRP sunscreen, it hates my face and wants it to dry up and fall off, so...nah, sticking with the K beauty. For face oil, the Ghost Democracy Light Bulb is the best for me, squalane is magic for this dry skin.
I use to subscribe earlier this year to the Allure box, but after 2 months of not liking my monthly box, I felt I was wasting money and canceled. I had no interest in this box.
Well, I’ll tell you this: I do like that one, though I also like many other moisturizers. That said, I’ve seen others say that it’s HG status for them. The mini is a good way to go if you’re curious but unsure you want to commit!
I never use or care about Western skincare, growing up being in love with Japan it was all about J-Beauty for me throughout my teens and twenties, which I used to buy so much off whenever I went to study in Japan as a student, and then came K Beauty during 2020 for me. Brands like Dr Dennis and Ole henriksen are so unremarkable, their products are worth a tenner ingredient wise, but you pay for the brand. I do like Benefit but only for the mascaras, not the skincare, same with other makeup brands that do skincare like Mac, Dior and Too Faced.... I only get makeup from these as the skincare isn't great and so scented.
For sure. It’s so funny how when westerners discover J & K-Beauty, they often say, “omg how can they afford to sell these products at such low price points!?” And yet the reality is, the western markup is just that high. It’s not even some well-kept secret either: a few google searches will show there’s an ~80-90% markup on beauty products in the west. The one thing that offsets that to some extent is Ulta deals (and we can also do some ridiculous couponing here lol). But I can no longer imagine just walking into Sephora and forking over $150 for a basic moisturizer 🤐
You snarky? Nah... I couldn't possibly imagine you acting snarky or sarcastic... 😶😂😂 Wowww I had no clue products were chosen because the brand itself submitted and paid for a chance at being chosen. Seems as shady as radio DJs taking money and gifts to put a song on heavy rotation... pretty sure that's now illegal in America, so I don't get how Allure could even try to appear impartial with that nonsense. Well, that would be an additional reason I don't read Allure. 😅
I just love your video’s so much, it helps a lot choosing the right products for my skintype, which is also dry and acne prone. I do really wanna know your opinion on the Anua intense calming cream, I wanna try it out and we practically have the same skin type. So if you have tried it, can you please let me know what you think? 🩷
