Yo can we talk about how incredible the History of the Mariners was? I swear I was watering up a couple times the last episode man. Jon and Alex and everyone made quarantine so much better with something to look forward to.
Lived in Korea 2015-2016. I went to 20ish games at Jamsil stadium. Great seats were cheap, the beer was cheap as well. Loved going to KBO games. Doosan Bears!
Uh... some things to edit: Hanhwa Eagles: They only won 1 championship in 1999, not 2 Kiwoom Heroes: Last year wasn't their only time going to the Korean Series, they also went in 2014. NC Dinos: They actually missed the playoffs 2 times, once in 2013, and once in 2018 (where they placed last). (Samsung Lions: Uh... I'm not sure if this is technically a title, but they actually won 8, but in 1985, there were technically 2 leagues, before the all-stars and after the Allstars, and the teams winning each of the leagues were supposed to play in the Korean series, but because they won both of them, I guess it is a title, but whatever) Doosan Bears: They won 3 out of 5 recent Korean series, not 4 out of 6. Other than that, it was all fine, and the video was actually fun to watch from the perspective of a KBO fan! Thanks for the video, and I hope this information helps!
I used to live about a 20-minute walk from Sajik Stadium in Busan. Lee Dae-ho had come back from MLB and everyone in the city was overjoyed to have him back on the Giants. They made the playoffs that year. I went to Sajik to try and get some playoff tickets, but couldn't because the place had completely sold out. There was a small tailgate party as well where they showed the 1992 Korean Series on a large video screen. Also, you can bring outside food into the stadiums. There's a HomePlus right outside the stadium, and during gameday the place is packed with fans getting food and drink. Beer girls with nitro tanks on their backs populate stadiums as well.
I actually attended a Kia Tigers game a while ago. Disappointed you didn't mention the decked out Kia that drives pitchers from the bullpen to the mound.
I've been to Jamsil Stadium when I was stationed in Korea in the Army. It was called Jamsil Olympic Stadium and I was there as an MP for security during the '88 Olympics.
KBO isn't the only live baseball league, Taiwan's CPBL has been running longer. Free, official, english commentary livestreams of games on twitter as well
Update: While the team still plays in the same stadium. The SK Wyverns are now the SSG Landers. The Stadium's name was also changed to reflect the ownership change. Now being known as Incheon SSG Landers Stadium.
Correction! Hanwha Eagles won only one championship in 1999. Secondly, the image of the stadium from 6'22" is not the Moonhak Stadium. It is the Sajik Stadium. Additionally, Kia Tigers have most trophies. However, KBO fans do/did not call them the Yankees of Korea. The Yankees of Korea is/was Samsung Lions because of their enormous financial muscle. Before the Lions win their first trophy back in 2002, the Lions were notorious among KBO fans due to their "star player collecting", just like the Yankees do all the time. Swept top FA players every stove league. They even traded--technically they bought--star players with money from the teams which needed money immediately. (the Raiders were the good example. The Raiders' parent company bankrupt in 1997. Eventually, the team was disbanded after 1999 season. SK bought the team and founded the Wyverns.) Therefore, KBO fans called Samsung Lions as Don(means money in Korean)sung Lions and axis of devil in the league. However, since the Lions' parent company changed to CJ (one of the affiliates of Samsung Group) from Samsung Group, the Lions are no longer opening their wallet like before. This is also one of the big reasons why the Lions did not make playoffs for years. BUT!!, the Lions is the only remaining team that which never finished last in the league in entire KBO history since 1982.
My last trip to Busan I watched a lot of KBO because I didn't understand anything else on TV. But I will say the gameplay at KBO and even the Japanese leagues are fantastic.
In the very near future MLB teams will be owned by companies, like in the KBO. Get ready for your new teams: AL East: JPMorgan Yankees Publix Rays GE Red Sox GEICO Orioles Scotiabank Blue Jays AL Central: Ford Tigers Progressive Indians Boeing White Sox UnitedHealth Twins O'Reilly Royals AL West: Microsoft Mariners WM Astros ExxonMobil Rangers Disney Angels Chevron Athletics NL East: Citi Mets Delta Braves SeaWorld Marlins Danaher Nationals Comcast Phillies NL Central: Miller Brewers Allstate Cubs PNC Pirates Emerson Cardinals Kroger Reds NL West: Knight Diamondbacks Molson Coors Rockies Wells Fargo Giants Qualcomm Padres Intel Dodgers
6:59 - Enormously popular but haven't won a title in a long time? The Giants may not be the Mets of Korean baseball, instead they're more like the Maple Leafs.
Since I haven't been to any baseball games in any country, this is as good as any baseball stadium vid from FivePoints to me!! Thank you so much! I had to get back working today...before bundesliga, before NBA...that's straight up unfair ! You help me cope
A cool feature of Munhak stadium is in the right field seats 6:04 - there are tables where you can grill while watching the game. You rent a grill and it's BYOM.
as livin in Incheon and lifelong SK Wyverns fan, I can give more information to you guys. there are some changed things in Munhak Baseball stadium. 1. the ballpark's name was changed from 'Munhak baseball stadium' to 'SK Hangbok Dream stadium' in 2015. in korean words 'hangbok' means 'Happy' and 'Dream' means 'giving'. so the park's name is 'happy giving stadium'. but we all know dream means some goal or images in sleep, so that's a name with two-meanings. 2. the park got korean-bbq zone on the right fence. you can see some yellow-white painted section in 6:01. on that section, viewers can cooking korean-bbq and enjoy that. 3. the park got grass area like a petco park. on the left fence 2nd floor, under the 'T그린존' neon sign, you can see (maybe not because there are too many peoples in that picture) some grass area. anyway, thanks to FivePoints Vids for making this cool video, and thanks you for watching KBO.
KBO baseball games are so much fun to watch live at the stadium. Non stop cheering and energy throughout the entire game. Cheerleaders and cheermaster is awesome to watch
Nice ball park review ..Gotta say since this started my insomnia has me watching 6 nights a week..... I’m All In On KBO. ..Heard the Doosan Bears are to be sold ? Could we see the return of the Hyundai Unicorns.
I lived in Busan and follow Lotte despite not living there anymore. Lotte are more like the cubs (before they broke the curse)of the KBO. They are the oldest team left, won championships early. Done nothing for a long time, but have a huge following. They don't have a curse hanging over them though.
Munhak also has a Burger King. Not that it matters because they have barbecue seats (no joke, you can reserve seats where you can barbecue pork) and you can bring in almost any food or drink you want and they don't stop you. Hell, I've gone out of the stadium in the middle of games to buy chicken from the vendors outside and went back in.
@@zaneluman7573 You say that but Korean is top 3 in the world. Just in the KBO the depth for each team is not that good. But on every team there are 3-4 MLB level players
Any chance we can get a review of the primary track stadiums from the last 10 or so olympics? Each host city seems to use the track site as their centerpiece...plus I’m a distance runner so those are the places I dream of.
Enjoyed the video but you didn't really critique. I haven't been to them all, but from what I've seen: Jamsil - amazing. Old, old. But under the lights, it's great. It works. Cheap beer inside too. Delapidated but it's a great place for a game. Even the mid-afternoon games in may, the outfield you'll get a good view of Lotte Tower. Can head to The Han for beers or a walk after if you like, 5 min walk. I love the place. SkyDome - crap. I enjoy going because I love watching any live games, but I can't pretend they've done a good job. Restricted views, expensive beer to boot. Not a great effort unfortunately. Munhak - I very much enjoyed my time here the one time I made it, can't comment much though. Some really cool outfield parts where families can picnic with tents. KT Wiz - another away day my team (LG Twins) lost. I enjoyed it and there were lots of cool fan experiences for the home team though. Sajik - I only made it once. End of season game, big one for the Giants. I think expecting so much left me a little disappointed. I think this would grow on me if returned, I'd love to catch a packed-out evening game here. Never done Hanwha, Kia or NC. I really want to do Hanbat. I DID do Lotte's 'second home' at Ulsan. Again, another loss for The Twins. I loved it though. Probably just as felt totally quiant. Probably due to exposure and emotional ties, I'm going with Jamsil as my favourite. It's old but when it's almost full it's brilliant. Proximity to the river and feeling very connected to Seoul add to it. Chuck in the old-fashioned feel with gs25 locations selling beer for the same price as elsewhere inside, and the swaithes of food vendors selling all sorts outside the stadium, and you have a winner in my eyes. Nothing much more exciting than walking up the steps at exit 5 or whatever exit it is and smelling the food, hearing the ticket touts... I'm excited to be proven wrong here too and visit the ones I haven't made.
You do a video on the Belarus hockey league, which just crowned their champ. Their soccer league came back eight or nine weeks ago after winter break (not for the flu). I don't know about the hockey league but soccer has played full arenas. No piped fan noise
Not surprising that 3D images aren't available for Korea. I also like how the teams are named after the companies that owns them, at least its more direct also give it a more korean feel when you hear names like Samsung or LG in the team names
I find humor that the Kia stadium has bad parking. I mean I know bikes and transit are more common in Korea but I still get a chuckle from a place named after a car company having bad parking.
@ 3:39 - *”Hey, the Browns are better than someone ... @ something.”* *•Me•* ~~ which *Browns* are you referring to: the Saint Louis team that became the Orioles or Cleveland? lol
As a fan who recently attended a bunch of games in the wyverns ballpark, the Popeyes chicken has been replaced by a different fried chicken joint (still good) and in the right field section there are seats where you can bring your own electric grill (power outlets are provided) to grill your own Korean BBQ... can’t say you can do that in any MLB stadium
