Lindsey, I love this blanket. Is it possible to make a smaller border like 12 stitches.? And if I did that what should body stitch count be? Thank you, Sue
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
The body portion of the blanket simply needs to be a multiple of 3 then add the number of stitches you want for each side of the border, then add 1 extra chain for your turning chain. So for example 12 (first border) + 12 (second side border) + 27 ( a multiple of 3) + 1 (turning chain) = starting chain count.

This is actually my favorite pattern to use for wash/dish cloths. It's definitely a game changer now, because I can actually make blankets and I won't have to figure out what border to use. Brilliant thinking for this pattern! Thank you so much for such a great tutorial Lindsey. Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much! I got really tired of the yarns I used being discontinued. So I am sticking the the yarns that I can count on staying around.

Thank you for providing this pattern! Love built-in borders. I've started a blanket size lg baby (that would be ME) using a giant ball of Big Twist Value Pound Plus yarn and a 5.5 mm hook. Are you familiar with the book "Built-In Crochet Borders" (2015, Annie's Crochet) (Amazon)? This book was written by a former coworker, Rena V. Stevens. You may find more ideas for bordered items there. 💮

Okay! I think I have stumbled upon the solution I need with your pattern but I'm not sure. I have a twin size blanket already made and I want to add a very large border. Can I just start using this ( your border ) to my existing twin blanket?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 10 месяцев назад
The border is worked as you go. You could work the border section then switch to another blanket pattern then jump back to the border pattern at the end of the row.
@amycalhoun7058

Me again ... In essence if I want only the border.... I can follow these directions: Rows 14 - ?: CH1, turn, HDC in the Back Loop only into the first 20 STs, *(SC, HDC, DC) into the next ST, Skip 2 STs,* repeat from *to* until only 20 STs remain. HDC in the BLO of the last 20 STs.

Hey just wanted to ask, for the border, instead of doing 12 rows, can I do less, like 6 or 7?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
Yes but then your bottom and top border will be thinner than the side borders.
@nicolettebarbitta6667
@nicolettebarbitta6667 Год назад
I did a stitch count at the end of doing the hdc from the chain. Chain was 224, after doing hdc in each chain my count was 214. Did I do something wrong? I don’t see any I missed.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
I believe we are only skipping 1 chain at the beginning, so somewhere you lost 9 stitches. You can look up how to add chains at the end of row 1, (it is a common trick shared on youtube). This pattern starts with so many chains that it can be easy to lose count when chaining.

Hi... What's the multiples please? Thanks
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
The multiple for the center section is a multiple of 3, but then you have to add the border to that. There is a list of different chain amounts for different size blankets at 1:14 . There is measurements and more on the written pattern: www.windingroadcrochet.com/big-border-blanket-crochet-pattern-and-video-tutorial/

I hope this isn't a dumb question (especially since the border is built into the pattern), but how do you think a row of single crochet around would look? Would it ruin the simplicity of the two texture contrast?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 года назад
A single crochet border would probably stretch out the ribbing rows. You can always try it down one side and see what you think.

I have used this technique in a few patterns. I would LOVE to find a different style of border that we could work as we go, but honestly the ribbed border just seems to be the prettiest.

Is it easy to use multiple colors with this?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
I think it is. You can do stripes or make the border a separate color.
@ruthriley5019

Thank you! I have started this in one color for border and for the middle i have started the first row in another color and im going to alternate the two colors i have with the main color on border. I have 3 colors total. Not sure how it will turn out or if you understand but when i get done the next two rows i can send a picture if you want. Im still pretty new and always learning or trying to anyways. 😊

Would you be able use this boarder method with a color change for the center and if so how
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Год назад
You would use the border color for the Back loop only stitches, then change colors when we move into the repeat/texture stitch, then change back to the border color for the back loop only stitches at the end of the row. It would be easiest to pull from two skeins of the border color and one skein of the center color.

Hi. Can you please tell me, how would one use this on a shawl?? 🌻Thank you.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 года назад
You would have to pick which width you want from the blanket selection. Then you would just work the pattern until you are 6 inches from your desired height, then work the top border rows to finish the shawl. Check out the written pattern to see the widths of all the blanket sizes.
