Suggestion: whenever you finish a challenge/project in the book write a couple of notes in the margin next to pattern and date it. This will give you sort of a work diary, and it will remind you of how much fun this has been for you and your followers.

I miss that I dont have pictures of the fineshed projects I have done so far...becouse some came out pretty good. But I will never be able to repeat them becouse mostly I wing it and don't work with one particular pattern...and I really forget to write down what I did. I work on some projects ad the same time and when I have an idea I am creating the next project in my head. I really try to write it down.

That's a handsome edging! Flip and Pick Challenge sounds good to me. On the joining of the little square motifs, you completed the second motif, then slip stitched over to join to the first. I interpreted the instructions as meaning that you should do the joining as part of the last row of the second motif. That would place the join in the center of the 6-treble group: you'd single crochet in the first 3, chain and join, then continue with the next 3 singles. This would also offer you the opportunity to slip stitch the corners together if you wanted.

I REALLY love the mystery videos so I'll never get tired of those, but I really like this type as well. For me hearing you figure it out has really helped me tackle some things I normally wouldn't. Crystal from bag o day has that quality as well. You all inspire confidence and help us realize we're all over here capable of more and we're all trying to figure things out! If that makes sense.

The pattern (starts in the 4th line of the text) says: Work another small square in the same manner, AND IN DOING THE LAST ROUND JOIN it from above the centre of the six long treble stitches by 5 chain to the corresponding place on the FIRST square, 9 chain, and continue.....😘 And ty for this realy nice edging. I love your videos. Hugs from Vienna (Austria) Sabine
@nimroddess_
@nimroddess_ 11 месяцев назад
Took me a while to figure this out but here's how I interpret the wordiness of the pattern. First the phrase "in doing the last round" means to do the following things as part of the last round of the squares (the single crochets), not after the last round is finished. Meaning start doing single crochets, do the 5-chain, 9- chain triangle, then continue doing the single crochets around. Also, a comma may have helped clear up the joined corners. It should say, "continue the (single) crochet COMMA joining by a (slip stitch) to the first square corner ways." Again, you would do that as part of the last round of the squares and then continue around to finish the round. Thoughts?

I like this edging. My next brainstorm is using a nice delicate edging worked in worsted weight along the bottom of a sweater in lieu of ribbing. I figure it will either look tacky as hell or absolutely elegant. Lol

Line 7 and 8 the joining of the squares is added part of the single crochet round so the 5 chain and the 9 chain and joining at the corner is all in that second round of the second square.

i found your channel bu accident, one of your vintage mistery vids popped up in my feed, i watched it, and i was hooked (pun slightly intended :D ) i have watched almost all of your mystery crochet vids, and i must say, i love them! Cant wait to watch the rest of your vids on this channel. As an avid crocheter/knitter myself, i love learning new things and old things, I am Dutch myself., so i started learning patterns in Dutch, but then learned through youtube, and i know both US and modern UK terms, so i can understand how you can get confused, cause when i first started out i was like... ' what does this all mean' , but watching your video's has brought me much joy, and much more know-how! Thank you so much for what you do

I would do this like the pattern says but the second I would join to the first square in the second corner stitch and continue connecting the squares like this. This way you know how many you need if you do the edging for something special.

I think a US stitch is named for the number of times you have to pull the yarn through the hoops on the hook (not including the initial yarn over and pull through), and UK terms are based on the number of loops on the hook after setting up the stitch (yarn over and pull through). For example, a double crochet - the term means to have 2 loops on the hook before completing the stitch in UK terms (which makes a US single crochet), whereas the double crochet term means to "pull through two" twice to make the full stitch in US terms. Idk if that makes any sense to anyone else, but it makes sense to me. 😂
@TheWolfCrea
@TheWolfCrea 11 месяцев назад
So the moment you were supposed to join was when you did the second square. Essentially you were supposed to do the first round of the square and when doing the round of single crochets, you were supposed to start the single crochets, when you arrive at the middle of the 6 trebles, you do the chain triangle thing, then continue the round of single crochets. When you arrive at the corner, you join the second square with the first one with a slip stitch (I think) and finally finish the round of single crochets. To be fair, it took me a long while to understand it, the text was not clear but if you look in the pattern, they call it "joining cornerways" 😊

Love your new Flippin' Pickin' challenge format! Very pretty little edging. I didn't see/hear anything that you missed in the pattern. But I was thinking "join as you go" might be the way to go. Wonder when that way of joining was first used? If the bottom edges of your doily curtains are even, maybe you should find a pretty edging to add to them? Would make a fun tutorial. Really like your head scarf. Looks very comfortable! Thank you for giving us another excellent fun tutorial!

I think that "chain 9, and continue the double crochet joining by a single crochet to the first square cornerways" meant that you were supposed to chain 9, join with a (US) single like you did, but instead of fastening off, you continue slipstitching your way to the corner and then slipstitch join the to corners together (and fasten off) - not absolutely convinced I'm right though

My Mom was from the pacific Islands and she would crochet and tat when I was a child... she never taught me to do either one ,,I am a self taught crochet & knit person..however crochet is my preference.. but to let you know she did use crochet thread to tat... the only thing you would need is the shuttle...which you put the thread on and weave it per your pattern...unfortunately the only pattern I remember her doing was a pineapple design and spider web design.. just wanted you to know I would rather loom my weaving rather than tat...love your tutorials and your positive outlook !!! Thank you so much for inspiring me to do more crochet work for my family

So, I don't see where you missed anything. I'm betting the original pattern writer assumes blocking and starching will fix the wibbly-wobbly corners? Oh, how I wish I had crochet books... whatta terrific idea! Lately I've been in a weird mental situation where I want to make every pattern I come across on YT and websites (so plenty of crojo?), but when I get 3 or 4 rows in, m'brain yells "naaaahh" and frogging ensues. Can't even get as far as creating a WIP. 😆

I have made “tall dc” or “long dc” stitches in projects when a treble was a little too tall and dc was too short: Yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw lp through, yo making a ch st, then proceed as you would a regular dc. Maybe the “long treble” is made the same way?

Great job on the pattern 💯 is beautiful 😍 as for the corner joining maybe that's what it means when it says join in the cornerways before the heading first row starts 🤷 totally just a guess, I have never worked a fancy edging before and no vintage patterns. You do a great job making videos 😊

Hi, Vintage crocheter, that is a nice and different approach than your last way of choosing a pattern, i can see the time saving way of choosing from the book. My idea would be to write the page # of each starting pattern, on a piece of paper( a little bit of work, but once the page # is written, randomly pick one, go to the page in the book). The pattern is already documented, no cutting out, or writing out the pattern. Your way is just fine though. A little different perspective. 😊 see ya on the tube.
@WarpingAround
@WarpingAround 11 месяцев назад
okay, don't beat me up cuz I'm just guessing here... just before where you made the little triangles (that you used to attach the squares together) if you look back more closely at the directions (this is the bane of my existence too) you were actually supposed to join the corners - they are the five chain space then I believe your nine chain after that is the beginning of the triangles and if you remember you were supposed to fasten off and cut - which you did not do with the second square and this is probably what didn't make it seem obvious. but connecting the centers of those treble stitches is, i think, to go in between the two that straddle the middle...

You needed to join you squares when finishing the single crochet round ( row 2) of second and then the third and any additional squares before you made the header I am visually impaired and listen to the instructions carefully andthen make things but sometimes you are very confusing to me with your over explanations.

I have done tunisian crochet, but only basic stitches, I have one tunisian crochet pattern on here ( but it was called Tricot in Victorian times) here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BSTvRVmVVeo.html

How fun! This is a great idea! As always! Had some family problems, so I couldn’t watch videos for a bit, so I’m finally catching up on your channel! Love this!❤

I really enjoy getting into and tackling vintage crochet and knitting patterns; therefore, I feel your pain 😄 in working through them --almost like I'm right there with you! After seeing this book on your first video showing it, I searched and snapped up an affordable one on eBay. I am currently crocheting the "Cosy Antimacassar" on page 10, with others sticky noted throughout. Always looking forward to your videos however which way you want to do them --such fun!
