Honestly, thanks for that saying. My beloved cat likely has cancer. I found out about a month ago, though it feels like yesterday. The twisted part is that he is what saved me from the darkness, so it's like an extra kick to the gut.

In French, "little red riding hood" is called "le petit chaperon rouge." I've been confused about the "chaperon" part because that's not a word that comes up if you look up "hood" in a French dictionary. You just explained it lol. Thanks! This solves the mystery.

French person here - yeah it's an old fashioned term for specifically this kind of hood - you couldn't use it for the hood on a coat for example, it has to be a seperate garment.

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your loss, it's always difficult to lose a furry family member and losing 2 the same year must be so heartbreaking, long distance hugs to you and your family. Secondly, I love that your cat is trying so hard to be a good little sewing assistant, it's like they know you need the extra support right now.

A short hooded cape was the first real garment I ever made and if you’re ever looking for an excuse to make even more of them I fully recommend making one in a waterproofed fabric. I used a waxed cotton and it’s such a useful garment, just covering your head and shoulders with a regular coat or jacket underneath keeps you surprisingly dry, also wearing a hood in the rain really helps with that mysterious wanderer vibe. x

Loved your little apprentice making sure that the fabric isn't sliding around (and that your posture is the most inconvenient) 😂 What I really want to know though is why there are liripipes on hoods in the first place! I can't imagine them being particularly practical in any way...

I think that they are mostly for looks, but yeah, they are handy for tying the hood more securely around your head/face, and you could always store a few coins in there.

I saw an awesome video from a medievalist who showed how to wear the hood with a tail for both open and more closed wearing, so breezy and dry vs cold, wet, and awful weather.

We're in a similar boat, it seems. 💔 My sweet soul dog, who was the same age as Jean-Luc, passed away recently at the beginning of August. I feel your pain and am so sorry that you lost both of your beloveds the same year/time. We still have 2 cats, but they are more my partner and son's, and I'm a dog lady so it's just not the same without my soul dog's dog energy in the house. I found an antique-style beveled glass locket on Etsy that I have a photo of her and some of her fur in that makes me feel close to her. I also got a necklace to hold some of her ashes, but I haven't had the guts to open the bag of her ashes yet, they're in a very beautiful box though. Sending you lots of love and I hope you are finding special ways to you to keep them close to your heart, too, during this energy transition. 💖🫂💖 Okay, now to watch the rest of the video (had to leave a comment right away!)

My deepest condolences on Jean-Luc and Kathryn crossing the rainbow bridge. May they romp and play, without the aches of age, in the beautiful meadow on the other side of the rainbow bridge where they wait for you to cross into the afterlife together. There’s a wonderful poem called Dogs Never Die, They Are Sleeping In Your Heart. by Ernest Montague. It will make you cry, but it brought me a lot of comfort when I lost Oscar.

loosing your pups is one of the hardest things. my last one was with us for 16 years. she was a goof ball and a sweet old girl, she made messes and made us laugh. cry long and hard, because those are the tears of long years of love.

Oof, losing two in one year is the worst. That was my 2019. You are so right about how that hood falls with the liripipe sewn on that way. It's so tidy. And I love how you've been doing your hair, with the rings and extensions -- that's a very clever way to manage it.

My adult daughter and her husband had to say goodbye to their golden doodle, Roscoe, last month. We have not been okay. We are slowly getting better. I have noticed that the rest of the animal family, even the ones who didn't much like Roscoe, have hovered close and snuggled more as the three of us recover. I love the hood you made and hope that you will find peace in the new part of your journey.

Oh...oh no. So sorry about your loss. My cat was just given a number of hard diagnoses a few weeks ago, and he's only 12 (that's not that old for a cat, most of ours have made 18-20+), but also he's practically a part of me, and it was heartbreaking. I honestly have been thinking about a cape or cloak for winter, so this is perfect! I know they aren't the same, but in the same clothing group? My only problem is that I'm a prolific sweater, particularly from the head, and I'm generally not outside long enough for my sweat to subside and a hood become necessary.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dogs, I can relate, sadly. I made myself a hood with a very long (pieced) tail for at home, so cotton lining and fleece hood. It really is very nice and warm. I'm planning on making a hooded shawl/capelet sort of frankenstein thing, with Victorian soutache inspired designs, tassels, and simple medieval squares and triangles for the pieces. We'll see if it actually works the way I'm planning it to, but so far I'm fairly sure I can pull it off. 😊

1 - thank you 💔 2 - thank you ❤️ 3 - it's based on coral necklaces in a lot of 16th century paintings, but especially Vincenzo Campi's genre paintings of working women. I made it after buying the beads with my mom at a gem show around 15+ years ago. It's honestly a little small at this point lol, which is why I've added the ribbon.

Morgan, your videos are always such a huge source of joy to me! Your energy in the videos is always so positive and the projects are always very exciting. And while you definitely attain a high level of craftsmanship (and historical accuracy when appropriate), you also make sewing very fun, playful in a way. I am deeply sorry to hear about your pets. I worked ren faires for 15 years and I'll defend to my dying day that cloaks and capes are stupid and impractical. But hoods? Hoods are amazing. Hoods are beyond amazing.
