I've made a few of these as gifts for kids. They are always a big hit! I had to stop and come back to the video several times, and made note of the time each round started below - I thought this may help others too, so I wanted to share. Times are approximate! Liner instruction - 2:53 Yarn Change - 28:12 R1 - 6:19 R2 - 9:40 R3 - 13:12 R4 - 15:13 R5 - 18:20 R6 - 20:56 R7 - 22:20 R8 - 27:01 R9 - 29:15 R10-27 - 30:30 R28 - 33:45 R29 - 35:49 R30 - 36:59 R31 - 39:10 *start to add stuffing R32 - 46:37 R33 - 47:55 R34 - 49.28 R35 - 50:28 Drawstring - 53:10

This is a massive project, but because of you I got encouraged to don it too . I stuffed mine with crumbled news papper mixed with old clothing and towel. Result is solid, not as puffy with pollows, just like real furniture.

Thanks for the great video MJ! I have made a couple of poufs and to make them a little firmer, I insert an 8-10" bouncy ball (not super hard - I found some knobby ones at Walmart) into the centre of the pillows and secure it with duct tape so it does not move around. Then add another pillow or two on top like you do. Still a cuddly pouf but just a bit firmer for a footstool. I love the drawstring option as I had to unravel mine a bit to wash the covers and fluff up the pillows in the dryer. Would have been easier with the drawstring. And the liner is a great idea for darker poufs so the white pillows don't show through any small holes.

VERY late, but crochet the straight dc in the stitch closer to the fpdc. it stops it from pulling the fpdc over and spiralling it

I think it would work well. Bernat Maker is a little thinner than Bernat Softee Chunky. If you think stitches should be tighter you could try doing 2 strands of Caron and 1 Bernat Maker

When you show that you are repeating the instructions for Round 4, you start it differently than the first time you do round 4. You start w/ a fpdc , but in the repeat, you start with a regular dc. Which one is correct? I want to make this, I just want to make sure I do it correctly! Thank you!

I have made 3 of these one with 2 ply Bernat softy chunky, 1 with 1 ply Bernat blanket and 1 Bernat baby blanket. All 3 I used a 8mm hook I have tied these off and lined and stuffed and they look beautiful. but I am having a serious problem getting it closed enough at the bottom no matter how much stuffing is in at the time. It's just like there are too many stitches and with the blanket yarns if you pull too tight on the drawstring it breaks. I have already tied these off but I think I'm going to have to add another reduction round etc. Your thoughts?
@333whiteraven
@333whiteraven 6 лет назад
Love your patterns MJ. I've purchased a few, and especially love your animal hooded blankets. But why don't you do softies? As adorable as your hooded blankets are, I would be absolutely forced to make a softie from one of your collections! If you consider it, please start with a dog like your dog hood. I have two boys that would adore one. Have a wonderful holiday. ❤

Make sure that you're still not increasing. Once you stop increasing the pouf will start taking shape. You may also need to drop a hook size if it seems really big (maybe stitches are too loose).

I’m using a thinner yarn and a 4.5 mm hook. Once I get to the step where you do 18 rounds of non increases - my work is barely larger than my hand. If I follow your steps will it still expand enough to make a large enough pouf? Or should I start doing some more increase rounds by 20 stitches with non increase round in between first?
@mjsoffthehook
@mjsoffthehook 6 лет назад
Katheryne Kolze using that small a hook and fine yarn will give you a mini version. Use super bulky yarn and a large hook for this project. Thanks 😊

Hey is there anyway you could help me out understand what I may be doing wrong. I am not new to crocheting so I got through it fairly easily and quickly but I wanted to increase the size so i just repeated the steps and adding an addition swirl on the side just the way you showed...but as I was going to start working up the sides i noticed that my edges were curling up...like they were wavy. From looking at it...it seemed i had made too big of an increase so i had too much material that was making it wave... Even though I followed your steps. So with this particular pattern... i I wanted to increase the size how would I do that without getting those waves ?? Thanks for the video. Love this pattern.
