When I started to crochet at age 15, many many years ago, I started with this afghan. It was the one my grandmother used to teach me to crochet. She passed away 20 years ago and i lost the pattern. I have looked for this pattern for years, even on youtube. I could never find it. I thank you so much for this.

My Gram taught me crochet when I was 8 or 9 and never actually told me the names of stitches, I just copied what she did and it worked out just fine. I love watching your tutorial because you explain things fully without it being overly complicated. The fact I can see the stitches has made a world of difference, it's like having Gram with me again (except now I know the names of stitches). Thank you so very much!!!

I just followed this video to get started on another throw also. I am fairly new at crocheting, so I find it works best if I use this and Bellas regular granny square tutorial to get started. I do not subscribe to any other crochet tutorials because I think she is the best and I am grateful that I found her videos. Happy crocheting!

I was reading the comments and it would seem that gauge is the most common question. That would depend on your yarn and hook. But you should be able to calculate that your rectangle would get 2 clusters longer and two clusters wider with each round. So if you measure your cluster height from foundation ch to the top, that should give you the base measurement to determine how many rows you'd need for a given project. Divided by 2 for total rounds on the project. If that sounds wrong or an expert out there can help us out, I'd love the input. I love the math involved in crocheting.

Loved this tutorial and will use it for future projects. However, I started this because I needed a 9"x7" Granny "square" to add to a group project. The beginning of the tutorial said to chain to the desired length of your rectangle which I did - 9". But as the pattern progresses it kept getting longer. So, I'll use this in the future for blankets but need to find a tutorial that is specifically for a 9x7"

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Mine keeps twisting like my start chain is too tight but no matter how loose I do it it still twists. I even went up a hook size
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet 2 месяца назад
I would make sure that you’re skipping the correct number of chains when working the first round. Going up a hook size for the starting chain and then sizing back down again will help too and you should find that once you’ve added a few rounds that it begins to behave 😊

I'm having trouble determining where a new round starts. At what point do you change colors?
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
You can use a stitch marker to help you with this; if you pop one through the top of the chain at the beginning of the round you’ll know where to join with a slipstitch and begin the next 😊 You can start each round with a new colour; just tie off the old one and join on the new. You can see how to do it on my tutorial here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7e7SIx9olqE.html (although the pattern is different the principle is the same)

Okay … I know this is an old video, but hoping you will see this comment, and be able to respond. If I’m looking to have a finished shawl approximately 25 x 60, how many multiples of 3 should I do for my foundation row? (I don’t want this to end up being a blanket, but also don’t want it to be too skinny). Thanks, and any help would be appreciated.
@bellacococrochet
@bellacococrochet Год назад
It's difficult to give an exact number as it will all depend on the yarn you're using, the hook size and your own personal tension 😊 However if you're hoping to create quite a long rectangular shawl/wrap you will want to create quite a long starting chain - you may be best off having a practise and creating some swatches to help you.
