how i make my top down mesh tops :) my pattern: drive.google.com/file/d/10eN_... ig: / nikitanightingale tiktok: / nikitanightingale depop: depop.com/kitascrochet
at first i was super hesitant to make this bc of sizing (i’m a bigger girl and wearable crochet patterns are not big girl friendly 😭) but this seems like it might be adjustable to whatever size you are. i’m tempted to try it now!
hii, so i just finished making this top and thought i'd share my measurements! i typically wear a medium but i wanted a bit of a looser fit so i went for a pattern that should be able to fit a large. i used a 4.5 mm hook. in the foundation chain, i made 86 chains in total. when i counted those chains, i decided on 17 chains in between the stitch markers, 31 chains for the bust (adjust depending on your bust size but i suggest this chain # for a larger bust), and 11 chains in between the slst and stitch markers on both sides. i made 11 rounds, and then started on the arm holes. i chained 21 (quite oversized, if that's your preference), and continued my rounds on each side until i got a total of 21 rounds for the length of the arm. after i finished both arms, i made one more row around the entire top because i wanted it to be cropped, and i was content! i'm sorry if this was confusing, if u have any questions i'd be happy to answerr :3
for ppl struggling in the comments: the method used for this sweater is called circular yoke, so if youre confused try looking up another circular yoke pattern/tutorial bc they are all done pretty much the same way!!
I feel like this is such a quality tutorial. Like normally people are putting out super boxy sweaters. Just work up some rectangles and put em together. I love how you start yours for a more natural looking neck/shoulder area. Than you!
If you're like me and you don't want huge boxy sleeves, I decreased the number of squares every other row when doing the sleeves and I think it turned out perfect! So basically I did the first row on the arms just like in the video but then after chaining 4 for the new row I skipped a square, and then I did the same when finishing up the row to make it symmetrical. Then I make the next row like normal and there are now 2 less sqares in the sleeve which means the sleeve would be baggier at the top and then get slimmer as you go down the arm. There may be a more elegant way to solve it, but it worked great for me! (I did use a 4mm hook though so idk how well it would work for other sizes)
No! That’s the perfect way to do a decrease! That’s a great idea and not having really noticed the sleeves, I’m grateful that you mentioned it. I’m going to have to check it out. That is a perfect solution for bagginess!
I LOVE IT, I have just started to crochet it and you made the tutorial really understandable and funny to watch, thank yoou so much. Also, somehow I have a lot of white yarn in my closet and this project is perfect to use them
I love this pattern, this is the first time i’m trying to do crochet clothes, I’ve done other crochet things but never clothes, I’m glad I found your pattern because it’s gorgeous!
I just finished the sweater today!! I love it so much i was nervous to make it because i had to make it bigger than the one in the video and i thought it would turn out too small but its perfect tysm for the tutorial
ok this was so confusing to start but something that really helped me was literally drawing out a motif to make sure i had enough foundation chains. i also modified to add an extra chain between the treble crochets so mine wasn’t exactly like this. but it’s my first raglan attempt and this taught me so much!!
Thank you Nikita I have made 3 of these already and I will make more as it is much easier than doing different pieces and having to stitch all the parts together, and this is complete so there is less ends to hide away at the end, enjoyed every minute of making these net, jumpers ready for the summer that's if we have one as I live in the UK so we can never tell as I like to cover my arms up so these will be cooler than wearing a cardigan or jacket, so thank you and very good explanation how to make so well done, hope to see more of your examples of your next crochet items that you make x❤
Ok so I am still working on my top but I just love it , it looks great and some or most of the comments are saying that the aren’t really getting the stitches and stuff but for me as a kind of a bigger ( I started 3 or 4 min ago) it is really good I understand everything + I thing I do to help me know my stitches better is that I kept the marking things she used in the beginning to help me notice where I need to increase So thank you a lot for this I appreciate the work you put into this 💗
Haha ...just started the Distressed Top Down Shrug you show and had zero problems...just looked at the " transcript and also look at the video if I need to.....it is so cute...I am older women and love your style. I am skinny but toned and love that I can adjust the fit or length to do crop, waist length,dress.... keep them coming like your ideas and modifications of pattern....
You have done a wonderful job of explaining this project ! I have crocheted for 50+ years and there were zero questions after I watched the video. I am helping a high school student complete this for her final assignment and I think it’s going to be a breeze for her if she follows your directions. Koudos to you! Well done young lady . PS I appreciated the pdf directions too
so cute! I love your patterns because they're perfect for my 22 year old niece and my sons 22 yr old gf. I make both the same thing for Christmas and it's nice to know what the trends are :)
Thanks for such a lovely tutorial! I was thinking about making a top like this and couldn’t figure out how to do it (I am not good without a pattern) but this was perfect! I had to restart because I messed up the increase on two different attempts but after watching the video really slow and pausing to look at the top when you had it on I was able to figure out my mistake. ❤😁
such a savior!! I was very confused which sweater I should make. I recently started Crocheting and came to know you can make raglan sweaters too. otherwise yt is filled with square sweaters. Then I thought I should make raglan/top down but with mesh and your video appeared. i can finally make my first sweater in peace. hehe. Love this tutorial.
I made this in white as well in about 3 evenings for my best friend's birthday (her beach pics came out great with it!!) and now I really want one for myself, so I'm pursuing a green color mix yarn that is much thinner and I'm hoping it doesn't flop. obv I'm altering the pattern a bit.
very easy to follow! also appreciate the important tips on details such as things being symmetrical, number of stitches having to be even or uneven... really helps make a beautiful piece :) thank you for the effort you put into this!
This is an amazing tutorial, if you’re thinking about doing it, do it!!! Definitely bigger girl friendly, personally I ended up using a 4.5 mm hook the whole time and made it short sleeved instead of long sleeved. I did 86 chains initially and for the arm chain I did 17. For reference last time I measured myself I have a 42 in bust and 33 in waist.
Changing hook sizes to change your crochet size is such a brilliant yet incredibly simple idea! My grandma didn't give me her collection of hooks in 0.5mm steps from 1mm all the way up to 6mm for nothing! After that I had to buy some for the bigger sizes. I couldn't find a 7.5mm hook so I carved one from wood. Good tip for anyone that wants to expand their collection in the bigger sizes. Get yourself a sharp pocket knife and just carve it out of a hardwood dowel. Or a dried branch if you wanna go hardcore.
Love this tutorial! Was searching for a pattern to make a dupe of a sweater a saw on a kpop idol and since im going on a concert of them i wanted to recreate it. Gonna have to make a hood to go with it tho
Please don’t give up! Your weekend was not wasted. Crochet is a learning curve; as annoying as it can be, sometimes you just have to go through these trials. Try again, or put it down, do something else, and come back. Don’t get mad at me, but - do a washcloth! They’re great for practicing stitches, and small enough to easily complete. Repetitive stitching will give you confidence and a completed washcloth gives you just that. Keep trying! 😊
I also have trouble with increasing at my third row. I did exactly like you did in row two, but can quite figure out how to do it at the third, fourth and fifth row, like you said...
I really love this pattern and how you explained it so easy for me to understand! Did you end up writing the pattern? I’ve made the small mesh top for my daughter but if she wants to add more length to it I’d like to see if I’d be able to read a pattern! Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for the tutorial ❤ when you do the body part in the second row do you switch to triple crochet under the arms or do you continue with double crochet all the way around?
yeah so basically i stared at the video for a long time before if finally sorted out that you like basically increase once in each sort of corner so four total for each round. it goes in the v you made the previous round
@@jessicaxie1235 I still don't get it 😢.. you only have a "v" in the first row right? I think it's hard to know how to do it at row 3, 4 and so on. It's not shown in the video
@@dianadisse2954 Okay, so basically it's one 'v' per corner, so four 'v's in total for each row. the 'v' is made by an increase, so four increases each row.
If I wanted more tapered sleeves at the wrist, would decreasing the size of the hook or adding decreases be better? Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I love it! There is some left over cotton I can use to make it. And if I put aside less chains for the arms at the beginning and then do more increases to make the sleeves fit instead, I could make the body part wider, right?
You worked very hard to make this video; I liked that you had a document to show the stitches and design. However, white yarn on a white background made it nearly impossible to see the stitches. Great idea to show your work to the camera after each section. I was able to count the stitches better. Please consider a darker background so we can see your work. Nice job.
I love your tutorial. Is something I have been looking for but it was difficult to see as the back ground is same as the yarn. Can you please use a darker background for lighter yarns. Thanks
I'm kinda surprised at coming by this video... I'm actually making a hemlut lang crochet pullover dupe right now and was wondering how to structure the neckline
Hi! I really loved your tutorial and I want to make this, but what if I wanted to make this using a size 6 polyester yarn? I want to keep the same mesh look, so should I do anything differently? skip more stitches or anything?
