A quick video on how to make crock dill pickles. Here is another crock project Homemade Crock Sauerkraut. • Homemade Crock Sauerkr... Update: Sauerkraut • Update: Sauerkraut
❤❤❤Also if you have city water you can't use that because the chlorine in it will kill the ferment. Use bottled spring water. I don't have grapes so I use loose black tea for the tannins. Excellent video👍
Filtered water? Cool! I tried fermenting 4 quarts of cukes with the pickle pipes....two were HORRIBLE, one still hasn't fermented and one is in the fridge. I think the pantry was way too warm. Lesson learned! Thanks for the recipe. I have crocks!! Blessings from NE Missouri.
I think that if I were to make more fermented foods in a crock, I would get a HARDWOOD board cut to about a 1/2" smaller than the inside diameter of the crock and that would insure that everything that needed to be submerged, would stay submerged.. I love fermented foods and they are in My opinion, HEALTY! The hardwood that I would use would be either, Maple, Birch, or Beech !
Alaska Prepper yes I do. There is a link in the description for that video as well. Fermented foods like sauerkraut are high in vitamins. Good for keeping up the immune system during winter.
Hello there, great video......I have my eye on a Blue Crown crock, it's a 10 gallon in great shape but the current owner has a plant growing in it.......if I wash it out, could it still be used to ferment sauerkraut or is better left as a flower pot?...........thanks.
Awesome pickling recipe. I have been looking for a crock everywhere. The only ones I found were at an antique store and she had a huge price on them. Do you know of a place they can be purchased? I am continuing to watch yardsales and thrift stores.👍😃
I have everything to make these pickles but I want to “can” them after, seeing how it’s only my husband that eats them, how do I go about that? Do I wait till after fermentation in the crock? How do I prepare the jars? 🙏
Canning Dill Pickles is a bit of a different animal. You don’t ferment them to can them. They will lose their crispness. Canned dill pickles are usually done with dill, spices and a vinegar salt brine. Then canned. I don’t have a video on this yet. There are spice mixes like Mrs. Wages that work good and have simple canning instructions on them. I hope this helps.
They will keep almost all winter (3 months if kept in a cool basement). All the old farm houses had a crock of pickles in the basement. The grape leaves help keep the pickles firm too.
