FILM DESCRIPTION:
As her teacher mother, Carolyn (Alfre Woodard), and her jazz musician father, Woody (Delroy Lindo), worry over monthly bills, grade-schooler student Troy Carmichael (Zelda Harris) banters and bonds with her four brothers. Against her will, Troy is sent to her aunt's southern home for a summer visit, but when she returns to her bustling Brooklyn neighborhood, she learns that a family member is gravely ill. Already mature, Troy is forced to face to some very grown-up facts about life and loss.

One of the main reasons I love this movie is because it reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in the 70’s with the other kids - especially during the summer months .. lol ☺️💖💖

That scene brings me back to my childhood, but instead of peas it was liver. She could've wrapped the plate in foil for him to eat it tomorrow. I can never subject my daughter to that.

Unpopular opinion: This is my personal favorite Spike Lee movie. While not as explicit and/or politically charged as Do The Right Thing or Malcolm X; both arguably regarded as his Magnum Opus, I've always came back to this slice of life/coming of age family sitcom-style drama that feels timeless despite taking place around the 70s. How Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo weren't even considered for some awards is beyond me.

One of my favorite scenes from the movie. I love how the little dog took off with his pound cake. I had that happen once when my sister brought me a Wendy’s hamburger. I was sitting at the table talking to my sister when suddenly her cocker spaniel by the name of Buster took off with my hamburger when I was not looking 🤣 I was left with French fries and a soda.

I don't blame you for that! I am still so pissed off at the people who did that to me. I've got a nine-month-old daughter. I try not to make her eat so she doesn't like, but with her being a baby at least wants her to try through bucks of the lemons and three bucks in the grapefruit but that's as far as it's going to go dang it

Same reason I don't force my niece to eat something she dislikes when I babysit her. She hates anything with nuts in it. Especially peanuts. They make her throw up. And she has to have the skin peeled off her apples. The skin left on will make her throw up, too.

I can so relate. My mom used to force me to eat a lot of foods that I didn't like growing up. I would just sit there for hours and just hold the food in my mouth and try to swallow it without 🤢 🤮

I have good Parents. They never force me to eat something I don’t like. I remember when my Mom had me tried Macaroni and Cheese. Didn’t like it at first, but at one point I gave it another try. I loved it. Once I have Children on my own, I will never force them to eat something they don’t like.

Trust me I know what I'm saying I was same way as Nate except it wasn't black eyed peas it was the regular green peas and still to this day I absolutely refuse to eat them. They are nasty and the smell and texture is disgusting. My mom used to make me eat them or no Kool-aid. Until one day she screamed at me to eat them so I had one spoonful and I gagged and puked all over my plate. She was upset but at the same time realized that I didn't like them and couldn't eat them so afterwards whenever mom made peas she would make me a substitute vegetable like green beans or broccoli or fresh carrots and I ate those with ease.

I did this EXACT thing with my Dad, except it was Broccoli Shells and Cheese. I warned him that I hated Brocooli, sure enough, I take a bite and I threw up EVERYWHERE. Dad got mad, said I did it on purpose, but he was infamous for making me eat things I didn't like, and I will NEVER force my kid to eat something against their will.

I never understood why some parents make their children eat foods that they don't like. Don't they understand that children have their own likes and dislikes with food? I know the parent wouldn't eat things they don't like, so why should the child?

@tonika7543 I agree that a lot of foods can make a person big and strong, and what-not. However, a lot of foods can provide some of the same benefits and vitamins. For example, I love eggs, but not mushrooms, and they both contain vitamin D. I can't stand black-eyed peas, even though they contain fiber. So does oatmeal, which I enjoy. There are so many options out there for everyone😇
