I can see and hear sparks jumping, meaning the terminals don't reach the max voltage. I'm not sure if fixing this with would make any difference though. I'm genuinely interested in further experiments. My bet that it is possible, but it would depend on field density (Volts/meter) and very high at that. Who knows? I'm just an amateur. Edit: Also the glass bulb may accumulate static charge, I'm not sure if that has any effect on the external fields influence as surface charge may redistribute to cancel out the external fields...
