Crop vs Flop DON’T LIE TO YOURSELF | American Bully Ear Cropping 

I’m so glad I decided to keep my dogs ears. There is so much personality in his ears that I would miss them if they were gone.

Not gonna lie, I love my boy's floppy ears.... they are so damn cute when he gets alert or tilts his head.

I have been grooming dogs over 30 years. I will say that no matter the breed of the dog, the ones with cropped ears are ALWAYS the ones sensitive about us touching them, cleaning them out etc.

This was a mighty fine video on cropped and natural ears, the best I have seen personally. While I can definitely see why some folks choose the more refined, harder cropped look, I leave the ears natural. While I would never turn away a good dog with cropped ears, I personally would not go out of my way to pay hundreds of dollars for cosmetic surgery for dogs. I would invest that money into their upkeep, plus I think they look good as is. Another reason is I think it can also be important that folks see dogs of a certain breed in their natural state. While the bulldog breeds like the American pit bulldog and the American bully still have plenty of examples of uncropped ears, there are folks that would look at a full-blooded doberman and think it is a mongrel because the dog's ears are not cropped.

All my dogs have floppy ears, don't see spending extra money on a surgery that's not needed, just had a litter of pups from my medium sized blue bully, and had to have an emergency c-section section done that cost me $1700 in the area I'm from. When I've told friends that I had to have it done and how much it cost, they just shook there heads and said you must really love that dog, I said yep and all my other dogs just as much. The way I look at it is that if you don't have the money or love or time to give to the dog( or any other animal for that matter) then don't get one. Just found this channel and I already like it better then most out there when it comes to this breed, I like the honesty and truthfulness this guy talks about, keep on keeping on brother.

So true, I've never seen cropped-ear dogs in any pound I visited. 'U need to respect ownership of the dog' this got me, i myself don't like to cut the ears (i love them with their long ears 😍😍😍😍); but you're right and you already have showed us how important are your dogs to you, and yeah at the end it's the owner decission, you might not like it but you have to respect it.

What I took away from this video is take care of your dogs 1st and respect other decisions to crop or not to crop.

My baby boy was a rescue. Spent his whole life in a shelter, boxer/pit mix. Got him for free, floppy ears, he passed away in August, and I would give anything to have him back. It is all about loving and caring for them. It is terrible that people feel like they have to explain their decision about their animal, or defend their stance. You did educate me as well, and I want to thank you. We have a 6 month old bully and my husband wanted to crop his ears and I didn't. I thought it would hurt our baby boy. Thank you for the information.

Great Video- The most compelling argument for Tail and Ear crop, is actual WORKING farm dogs that will potentially encounter wild predators. The ears and tail are the first thing attacked, and your dog will bleed out of its ears with a significant laceration. Peace

We are Team-Flop. I don't mind cleaning their ears myself. Nothing against Team-Crop, at all.

We paid lots of money for our XL pit, but decided to keep his ears😊. We do cook organic meals for him and give him organic green tea bath with Apple cider vinegar. Also he eats raw organic eggs and garlic every day. I also heard if ears don’t cut properly then dog Struggles with an ear infections. So our dog so beautiful with his ears and we are love it! Anesthesia is very Dangerous for dogs and humans, and if I can save my dog life I am absolutely will! God bless!

im in UK and we cant crop ears, so only option is importing a cropped dog. id 100% crop if i could. the only thing that gets on my nerves is when someone bullshits, saying the reason is "its for health" which is total and utter bollocks! the only reason to crop is that it looks good. personally the main reason i got my dog and not an xxl bully is because xxl bullies without cropped ears have big dorky looking mastiff ears which looks aweful

I have 2 flops and getting a crop. My one male flop was prone to ear infections and shook his head that he ended up bursting the blood vessels in his ear. The hematoma was drained but he had to have it drained 3-4 times for a week before it began to heal. My big boy has slight cauliflower ear due to this. I appreciate this video because I can decide whether it is right for me.

I'm against cropping and docking, and also against circumcision. I'm also against piercing ears until the child is old enough to choose it and make a clear argument for it. I don't do declawing, removing dewclaws, etc. The only thing I am for is spay/neuter. That being said, I pay extra for vasectomy and tubal ligation on my animals so that they still keep all of their parts. I just want the hoses disconnected!

Love the fact that your impartial on the whole ear cropping/floppy debate. As long as the cropping is done humanly there's no issue. Ears don't define your dog what defines your dog is you the owner. And yeah vet's will tell you anything as long as they think they can take your money. They're no different to any other business out there! Same as taking your car to a garage for something minor and then being hit with a list of things that don't even need doing

When I say this man here is speaking the truth! I've only ever seen a few crop eared dogs in shelters and I personally don't crop myself because the 2 I have keep ear infections

I kept my boys floppy ears! I was considering getting them cropped but didn’t because, I watched a cropping video ewwwww just couldn’t do it after that, why cut his precious little ears off! His ears were adorable, it made him look like a little baby pig. And also because I live in California (where I got my boy) and in B.C. Canada (where I’m from) in B.C. ear cropping is illegal, we are kinda known as a bit hippie where I live lolol so ppl here would be put off by cropped ears, so because those reason we didn’t do it. And I couldn’t be happier! Natural is better!

My dog gets ear infection ALLLLL the time.... like very two months we're fighting an ear infection, makes me wish sometimes I had his ears cropped. HOWEVER, I love how cute he trots and his floppy ears bounce - it's the cutest.

I've had both. But now i lean more to the natural look reason being ive noticed that some cases it can throw off the dogs balance. Crop does give them a kool look.

I like both looks. Sometimes I look at a cropped ear and think that it doesnt compliment the dog, but that could be the way the ears were cropped. Cant be done in the UK anyway, only imported dogs can have it in the UK.

@QBN Kennel my argument has always been that we as people asked to receive a dog with floppy ears when that itself was cruel to begin with just because it looked cute. I hear what you are saying by experience that cases of ear infection doesn't happen with floppy ears, I actually didn't know that but I'll believe you as an expert. Also one argument I also have used was how in some countries people who have pets as dogs frequently get attacked by strays that roam the neighborhood free and it is likely more painful having floppy ears ripped and pulled on when a stray attacks. We bread the ears that have trouble hearing, try wearing a hoodie and see how it reduces your hearing. People mostly get a dog for top reason as protection even if it's to simply alert the owner so breeds like german shepherds for example have pointy ears not floppy ears and are more likely to hear things further away.

You’re absolutely right! I like to see both of the types on dogs just like you. Unfortunately it’s against the law to crop as well as to dock tails here in the Netherlands. I’m a 100% for cropping and docking if it’s done under anesthesia and/or for health purposes like hematoma in ears and things like that.

Where i live croping and docking is illegal. It´s actually illegal in most of the world, in some countries you can do it if the ears or tail is damaged beyond saving.

Ear cropping for me is purely aesthetic, i like the way they look with crop as opposed to flop

I adopted a Pit bull/bull mastiff at 5 yrs old. I don’t know if those are his actual breeds given I adopted him and it’s usually their best guess. Most people do think pit bull when they see him. More the size of one but his head is slightly different. Still boxy and big but with longer jowls. He has floppy ears and both look way different. One flops forward and the other more back and dwangs out. That ear constantly gets infections, he has allergies and skin issues all the time and digestive issues. I’ve spent thousands on vet bills and nothing seems to work. I’m looking into switching his diet. I watched the video about the BARF diet. Seems more expensive and complicated. About the ears though, there are shelter dogs with cropped ears and potential adopters actually look over them more so than the floppy because they look more intimidating. I have seen punks who want the cropped for that reason. All together pits make up the majority of shelter dogs, so sad. I will never buy a super expensive breeder dog. I will always adopt because they’re perfectly fine and millions get put to sleep. Personally I like the look of well done professionally cropped ears. I’d probably do it if I got a puppy and wanted to spend the money. But I prefer to adopt adult dogs. Which if I’m correct you cannot crop adult dogs ears right? Though I know the self croppers who abuse dogs chop off their ears as adults. Which I’d never ever do. My dog is my emotional support animal and I do live in an apartment and I made sure just because I do I’d still be able to keep him. I get to no matter what though because of the fair housing act.

Dogs have their ears cropped for one reason and one reason only; to achieve a certain 'look'. In short, it makes them look tougher, more intimidating.

I kept all my pits ears because they were very hated dogs back in the day and anything that kept them from being shot sounded good to me.

Good video its all preference, i personally believe in the cropped look. Never had any distress or pain either, but should only be done professionally

Im a flop fan, ive raised many APT's over my life and ive kept them natural. Ive been in the bully breed for a while now, and i just like flop ears better just because i like it, not against crop as long as its done right and by a vet

I left my bullys ears natural because I walk my dog's in the woods off leash.floppy ears help to keep debrie out of the ears.I glued them to stay floppy.but I love the look of cropped ears.my Australian sheaperd has had his tail removed so I'm not against cosmetic modifications to a dogs

My dog had his ears cropped and he gets ear infections all the time. The vet said he puts them under anesthesia to crop ears. My boyfriend wanted the ears cropped, but I didn't want to because I just didn't want to hurt him. He does look good but it almost seems like it causes him to get ear infections from the wind, especially when we go for car rides and he always puts his head out!

To crop ears is forbidden in holland, only working dogs like farm dogs can be cropped since ears and tail can be crabbed by a machine or barbedwire. Personaly when healed correctly croped is nicer.. mine is flopped as you can see. He was 1.5 years when i got him, so 2 late anyway... 🙏

I got a boxer, looking for a bully big brother... I wish I got my boxers ears cropped. Traditional look. He also got horrible ear damage from playing.. now they are seriously crumbled up, tuff and he wont even let you pet his head.

I think you will find that a lot of the people who are against ear cropping on bully breeds are also against tail docking and ear cropping in other breeds. You will probably find they are also against circumcision. Any kind of cosmetic body modification on a human or other animal that cant make the choice themselves is going to attract controversy.

I own a street dog I got a few years ago, November of last year I got a puppy (now 7 months) who is a bulldog mix. I regret not having her ears cropped even tho she was 3 months old when I got her, my street dog is more aggressive ( they both have floppy ears) but she bites on my puppy’s ears when playing as they are much larger then hers. on a semi monthly basis my street dog gets too aggressive playing and ends up biting her ear hurting her. If the ears were cropped it wouldn’t happen so it may be safer for dogs depending on their confidence around other dogs

Cropping goes back to Egyptian times where they cropped dogs/cars for less collateral damage in case of getting in fights with other animals.

I feel like cropped ears gives the dogs an advantage from a fighting standpoint, other than that it’s just cosmetics.

I grew up with Rhodesian Ridgebacks, but many many years later, and now having sons, they want a Bully... I got one the other day for them. They just don't want the ears cut - their choice. I'm just not a fan of cutting them (I like the hound look), but my sons don't want to crop them, because they think it might bring them too much pain, and they feel sorry for him. I've been looking at a load of bully-vids, and how to take care of them: they seem to be really needy with our attention, compared to Ridgebacks, but I consider myself a proactive-father, and hope my lessons for caring for the puppy will be learned by my little son... He's 11, so the bully-puppy will grow old with him, and that is what I hope. This is our first bully-pup, and I hope to get a female for him in the future, and then maybe we can have our own puppies. When I was little, one of my neighbors had a doberman, and the guy asked all the neighbor-kids (us and some others) to hold the dog down, while he bolt-cutted the tail off... I sort of made a vow on that day to never do this to any of my future dogs. I'm not advocating for either side... much as how I see you speaking here, it's our personal choice. I think the bullys look great with cropped-ears, but I want my son to be happy with his little-guy! :-) I'll find/follow you on IG.

I'm adopting an American bully next week, he has floppy ears and we are going to keep his ears the way they are. Yeah it would look nice if we cropped his ears but like you said I don't have the cash to get it done.

I cropped mine live in the country he’s a guard dog purely hold the fort down when I’m away. Looks more intimidating, masculinity. I love it if I wanted him to be a companion and take him everywhere with me I would of still got him cropped they look better to me

I got a crop and got a flop. My imported one was cropped but UK its illegal so could not do it. But I realised I love the flop as its just nice rubbing those floppy ears 😍. I don't mind either, as long as done professionally.
