I’m not trying to be a jerk, but be careful with everything this person is saying. He has a bias to his Malinois. Much of the commentary is benign, but some of his comments are fairly inaccurate. To start, Malinois don’t enjoy dog parks, yet the owner keeps taking him there. Malinois want to work, and a dog park isn’t work for them. Navy Seals don’t like to train and hang out at donut shop with the local police department. Malinois were bred for a specific high octane duty, and a dog park is not even close to being on their bucket list. To a malinois, a dog park is like making an entrepreneur work in a corporate cubicle their whole life when they could go out in the field and absolute clean up. I recommend stop taking the malinois to the dog park, and give it the life it was bred for.
@@markhoffman I think it's kind of a weird statement saying "Malinois don't like the dog park, they want to work" Like, you don't know if he's working his Mal or not. He's probably just taking Ronin to the park to meet other dogs and get some video footage. Nobody knows what he's doing all of the other time. Yeah, Malinois are bred to be working dogs but they do fine living as family dogs, as long as they have a purpose and a task. And yes, most Malinois like meeting other dogs. They're social animals after all.
@@kiru_red4691 I know it’s not what people want to hear, but if you talked with most malinois owner they would confirm they don’t take theirs to the dog park. There are much better places to socialize a malinois. You can see in the videos that the ronin is panting a lot even without activity, it’s stressed a lot of the time it’s there.
Also, dog parks are wholly unnatural places. Tons of dogs in a relatively small space, accompanied by their owners, with some dogs thinking they're the protector of their humans, some dogs terrified by so many "dangers", etc. Also, that hierarchy stuff gets weird quick when you have over a dozen dogs all trying to sort themselves out. I'm with you, I don't think it's an overall healthy environment, but it can be OK if you are as fully dog language-aware as this guy here, I guess.
"Kevin, you're not that guy" Someone tell her that Kevin is going through a short guy complex. Ronin doesn't care because Kevin is so short he looks right over him
"He just wants to play" a woman with no clue doesn't keep her GSD on a leash. "People get so mad at me!" I suppose that reaction is because her dog wants to dominate my GSD/Malinois mix and everybody else in the universe. The dog scared the shit ou of my dog and _I_ had to tell her GSD to back off.
First time watching a video from you - excellent commentary on dog language. I love learning dogs cues, so thank you for doing this video, so cool. Also enjoyed seeing the Elkhound, we had a Norwegian Elkhound when I was growing up, she was amazing. Thanks again :)
i love your videos and everything so much, my sister wanted me to watch a few videos so i could learn more about dog body language and ive learned so much! i might get a lab or poodle soon, but your account will help me so much with my first dog. my sister has 2 dogs which helps me practice anf i even taught them a few tricks which im super proud of. But i really love your content and your account so much. and Ravens curled tail is just so cute! i love your content so much!!
My Shepherd / Boxer mix is similar to ronan, but he’s 4 now and quite experienced. He doesn’t play with many dogs (but has certain few he loves) and he’s a little dominant but not in a bad way. Wouldn’t change him for the world. Has never been in a dog fight only with his similar brother years ago.
I have been to a dog park once and don't plan to do it again. I took my 3 yo GSD, Sadie, to a park in Blacksburg, VA. She was playing with a young boxer, a dance mix, and a lab mix on the dogs over 60# side. She got tired and was lying under my picnic table while I was talking to the boxer's owners. A guy brought in a smaller dog (30-40#) into the large dog side. It was a male with the canine equivalent of short man syndrome. It immediately went over and bit the boxer. The boxer was shocked but didn't respond. Then it made the mistake of biting Sadie. Sadie had him on his back in less than a second. I'm just glad I was there to control the situation. We left the park after that but the owner of the smaller dog acted as if nothing had happened. Maybe I should have just let Sadie deal with that dog.
As they should. Too many owners, especially male owners, seem to enjoy their dog's manliness. This guy here seems to enjoy his big Malinois and his intimidation of other dogs. Like the proud father of the school yard bully. Reflected glory and toughness. Intact dogs (and unspayed female dogs) have NO business at the dog park.
seeing an aussie do that at the beginning blows me away as an aussie owner! my lil girl could never act this way to another dog haha she doesnt have it in her.. but she was probably socialized alittle better than the one shown, never too much socialization!
people say his dog is not trained. this is just dog parks which are breaks for this dog he probably is working this dog all day. he has a recall i would assume since he says the other owner has no recall. i would let me dog assert dominance if he was getting messed with that’s just genetics
I went to the dog park with my Lab so he could interact with more dogs. Big strong guy but like many Labs, zero aggression and 100% play. He had a great time. I got to know the regulars and would drive away if the wrong owners were there. But my boy kept getting eye infections from the dog park so I stopped going. My vet says a lot of his business comes from sickness picked up at dog parks. FWIW.
This is why vets won't take their dogs to dog parks. It stresses out the dogs and some people insist that their dog is not aggressive when it is. Dogs would rather just spend time with their humans anyway.
Omg, how many times is she going to say KEVIN! Clearly her dog doesn’t respect her. I would have taken charge and grab my dog. She just sounds so desperate.
First of all, letting your dog go inside the park with an excited, pacing behavior, was your first mistake. That caused problems. I don’t think you quite understand dog behavior as well as you think you do. That’s why the other dogs were acting like that towards your dog. You’re lucky he didn’t cause an all out fight. If you’d stayed, blood would have been drawn for sure.
Now that Ronin has been neutered I'm wondering if he's become one of the jerks that picks on intact males? No offense is meant by this question, my own bull arab dog is still intact at 4yrs and I'm wondering what I'd likely expect. Cheers.
I don't know your dog control, but if it was my Corso, I would let him do the job. He just dominates the intruder with only pins to ground. Ronin tolerated him too much.
I’ve always brought my dog to the dog parks. All dogs are different dogs know how to communicate with each other. I allow them to communicate, and I don’t bother them unless it gets a little too much.
Taking yr intact lad to a dog park would be problematic, cos like 95% of dog owners aren't also behavioural experts. Being a dog nerd around average dog people is just....
I love Belgian malinois there so fun mine was a witch /racist she bit a Hispanic teacher but she likes kids so a black kid is fine ti her but she passed away so we got another one.
@@blayze-qh3fm lmfao. Why do people like you exist. Your comment was racist and outlandish. To suggest your dog was racist because it bit a Hispanic person is ridiculous.. and I can't say for certain but I would imagine the other comment of "what" was directed at how bizarre your comment is, and not because they couldn't understand you. For the record it was dumbed down enough to begin with. Since the Malinois breed isn't a place or position you're using the wrong noun/pronoun. Since you're talking about the breed specifically, the pronoun you want, is, their. Or better yet the contraction of "they are" which is they're.
And then suddenly out of the blue one day your the GS will be into a fight, I've seen this many times and and one dog almost died. It was a Shepard with Pitbull or a mix, she started the fight the Pitbull finished the fight but I don't get why to play with fire, too many dogs that doesn't know together are big problems... Then a ball???? That's why i don't bring my dogs anymore to dog parks.
Would never put my dog in a dog park. Not only do I worry about aggressive dogs but also diseases. But, go ahead and trust other dogs and their owners, don't let me spoil the fun.
@@goldem0_derp393Is someone there checking the paper work? There are signs posted at my local dog park and no one pays attention to the rules whatsoever, including picking up the poo.
My dog hates her rear being approached, she will turn and get kind of uncomfortable. No dog parks at all but on walks sometimes dogs try and approach. Thankfully she is spayed so no issues there.
This is clickbait; Bully would crush that dog. This dude is a good trainer with a good channel and his dog may dominate some dogs, but this is a one off, in most likely training or safe enivorment want proof? Bring that dog to my yard (or any yard for that matter, lets film it and show it on your channel. I have had several Maliniois and Pit Bulls, GSD etc.. This dog-dominant routine where the video goes into slow motion and you explain the ABPT body language is complete BS on the (ABPT). May work on some dogs and most viewers but its a stretch from reality- stop the BS, your good enough without this comedy. My offer stands. Stop the macho ego stuff you have a great dog, great breed no need to make him a super hero with the title of this video. Be happy and proud, or one day, you may try this on the wrong dog.
I have owned REAL American Pit Bull Terriers, YOU know nothing! My @SS your dog! If you see with you own eyes what my dog could do, it wouldn't be your dog who would soil his pants.
Damn dog parks suck hahaha. So many socially illiterate dogs that ruin it for everyone there. If im honest with myself its at LEAST half of my visits to dog parks that result in something unpleasant happening because of one or more bad dogs
Dog parks are great places to meet single women but terrible places for dogs. Stop going and find a few friends with well-behaved dogs and stick with them.
Belgian Malinois don’t enjoy dog parks. Surprised this owner doesn’t know that and keeps taking the dog there. Belgians like high octane activities including just the handler and the dog. The dog park is like going to the night club..and Malinois don’t like night clubs. Corgi’s like going to the night club! I would suggest you stop taking your Malinois to the dog park. Trust me, they aren’t missing out on anything.
You literally sound like a broken record. You come across to me as someone who has just read this information somewhere and this sums up the entirety of Malinois worldwide. Malinois were bred for certain things, fine. But that does not define the dog. It needs high energy exercise and to be stimulated mentally. This doesn't always translate into police attack dog or bomb sniffer. Their needs can be met with other activities provided they are intense enough. Now just like humans, dogs have personality traits that make up 90% of who and what they are, and just like us they need downtime too. Since it's a family pet, it needs to be socialised regardless. Dog park is probably not the best place since they are easily exited but certainly not the worst way to socialise. The fact it's a puppy still. He shows great restraint. Which is a testament to the work this guy has done with him.
@@markhoffman My message is very clear. Stop acting like you're the authority on Malinois across the world, do you even own one? It honestly gets really aggravating when self confessed know-it-alls act like they know everything there is to know about dogs/breeds yet just seem to spout off the most basic of information readily available on the internet. You do understand that ALL dogs were bred with a specific purpose in mind right, and I'm sure throughout history said breeds haven't always followed their purpose, that being said, it doesn't matter if the owner strays from what is considered the dogs purpose as long as the animals is given adequate and fulfilling activities. Most Bully breeds have a history of pit fighting, and if their history is to be believed they were bred for that specific purpose, does that mean the breed needs to fight constantly????? I think we both know the answer to the question. Being closed off to what an animal can be is ignorant and imo people like you are part of the problem. We need to have a more expansive mindset in order to afford our animals the care and respect they deserve. Pigeon-holing them all into one breed acting like neither one of them is an individual and/or have the capacity to break the mould isn't doing anyone any favours. Least of all, them.
@@robertshaw3619 my comments stay the same, and the malinois continues to be stressed at the dog park, regardless of your long winded drivel. And no I don’t own a malinois because it wouldn’t get what it needs in our family environment. We would have to radically change our lifestyle just to fit the dog. And that’s unfair to my family and the dog.
All the signs you attributed to aggression or actually signs of play. What do you have is your aggressive dog misreading, another dog, and becoming the aggressor. It’s probably due to the fact that you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing reading dogs body language, and are imprinting that onto your dog.
@@coolshield8197 dogs don’t always like each other. Socializing is important but it shouldn’t happen just randomly. You will just provoke fights and injuries
How I would react? I wouldnt go to this yard in the 1st place. Why on earth would you put your dog through this? Just go somewhere else, are you that desperate for views? By the way, dominance theory has been outdated decades by now.
