Scott and Ty take you along as they Ferry the Piper Brave from Indiana to Lewiston, Idaho. See what it takes to fly an airplane with no transponder across country in the era of mandatory ADSB.

Interesting video- I live in Cheyenne and a friend of mine sent me a link to the video. The Twin Comanche in your video is my personal plane, the damage on the nose, like the King Air- is ice damage from ice being slung off the props while "slogging through the clag". The C340 next to the Twin Comanche is my "work airplane", a corporate aircraft that I have the pleasure of flying. The corporate aircraft we had before the 340 was a Piper Seneca II and the heater didn't work in that airplane. I know all about flying around so cold you can't feel your nose, fingers or toes- I feel your pain man! Glad you made it back safely. Wish I'd have known you were here- would have been fun to have a beer and hangar fly for a bit!

Silver Nitrate flares are used for cloud seeding. Provides a nucleus for condensation so the cloud rains out before it turns into hail. Also the prop device pads with the dents are replaceable so don't feel too bad for the king air :)

45 years ago silver nitrate was used in Africa, commonly contributing to fist sized hailstones which destroyed everything in their path.

Cloud Seeding. Cloud Seeding is - at least in some regions - primarily used to prevent hailfall. The generators emit tiny cristals which attract moisture. So many tiny hailstones form instead of few big ones. Those tiny hailstones melt while falling zu the ground and turn into rain. The main purpose is to provide a large amount of condensation nuclei, because water needs something to cling to when condensing. Greetings from Vienna!

The “q tip” propellers on the twin Comanche do reduce noise, but the main advantage to them is landing on grass fields to avoid prop strikes.

Cloud seeding is for increasing the amount of rain that falls from a cloud by the use of silver iodide flares. Water needs something to condense on like dust or smoke so the S I helps condensed more water from the clouds. Many countries use them especially when they’re in a drought. Only 1 or two companies make those rigs any more.

Cloud seeding... Freezing nuclei. A tiny particle that promotes condensation and ultimately a water drop dense enough to precipitate. Could be ice or water. Localized humidity must be high enough i.e. a cloud. Seeding helps the rain process form but is no guarantee that it will produce rain or that the rain will occur where you wish.

Hold on hold on, everyone tells me cloud seeding isn't real... that I'm crazy 🤣🤣
@lmead
@lmead 4 года назад
@ C Denton: mostly correct. It's condensation nuclei. I used to fly for that company (Weather Modifications, inc.). The flairs used (both on the wing and underneath) disperse silver iodide crystals (very close in chemical composition to ice crystals). The type of seeding you're doing (either on near top or at base of clouds) determines if you use the wing flairs or the belly flairs but generally both are intended to get taking in updrafts to attract water molocules. When they get heavy enough they fall to the ground as rain. You are correct in the sense that there's no way to determine how much more rain you'll help produce.
