Scott I was sitting here with a broad grin on my face as you were WOWed by the country up home. You were flying over a small bit of the country Dad flew a lot over 70 plus years ago, in aircraft you would be lucky to find in a museum. Yeah you made me a bit homesick and remembering times gone by. Thanks for bringing us along with you for the ride. Safe travels to you.
I remember some of the same inspirational views bringing back my C-310 from Ketchikan to Virginia. I think you made the same mistake I did...I didn't spend any time in Alaska before heading back. I was on a mission to bring the airplane back and didn't stop to see the sights while I was there. I had to go back 20 years later to actually see Alaska. Beautiful and inspiring state.
One of the best videos I’ve seen. Capturing your overwhelming joy and awe of the moment was a great joy for me to watch. There’s so much out there to see. I try to see as much as I can and live vicariously through folks like you living it and sharing the experience. Thx!
Epic video Scott!! As You were scanning the view and talking, I too felt the rush of awe inspiring vistas. Thx so much for bringing us along. Beard looks great on you! You have got to be one of my favorite pilots. bookmarked this video and I can guarantee you I will be watching it over and over. Too cool...You're a jewel. see ya in the next video.
Thank you for taking us along on such a stunning flight. I was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage from 1981 - 1983 and loved this tour of duty and beautiful state. It is truly called the last frontier for a reason. Such beauty! Also have to say I was stationed in Germany for 4 years and got the awesome opportunity to jump out of this great Porter many times!
Great video Scott! Looks like it was an amazing scenic flight! What a way to get a cross country when you do t get to do them much! I always wondered how ferry pilots could make such long flights, especially over open water, in aircraft they are flying for the first time. That’s a lot of faith!
Love a Porter. I live next to Raeford Skydiving center in North Carolina and they used to fly a Porter. Great airplanes. Glad that you had a safe flight
Hiya Scott, Awesome video. FYI us Canadians do not have F-16's. We only have 30 year old F-18 Hornets that are past their due date. We also have a couple of Cessna 185 RG that they strapped a slingshot too for defense...lmao
Nice to see another video Scott. Flown that route a couple times and I had the same reaction. The warm cookies are always good in Yakutat Not sure about R-109. Just as long as you buzz through P-51. That might get a visit from a Whidbey F-18 Growler. Little different that flying around the Palouse
Scott, Makes me want to travel to USA and just explore, awesome scenery and one of my favorite aircraft too. Really enjoy your videos, always special. As a glider pilot and LSA pilot only too keen to explore.
Scott: I was to Alaska, NWT, Yukon, and the rest of Canada in my youth. It started in childhood as my father was an airline pilot who started in DC-3's and retired in Boeing 757's. His favorite life ong love affair was hunting, fishing and flying. Many a time I got to go along on fishing trips to Yakitat, Juneau, Cordova, Fort Franklin on Great Bear Lake, or Inuvic. I got to see all these places by many different modes. Commercial airliner, private airplane inland passage ferry, motor home, or Goldwing. I'm 60 now with a lousy heart and these things are no longer an option so I have one bit of aged wisdom. Cherish every second that you're getting to do these things my friend, don't take it for granted. If your unlucky and don't get killed doing something you love, there'll come a day you can't. Cherish it All! Scott Pecora. PS: I also got to get a couple hours time in Clay Lacy's heliporter along with Clay. He had a cabin on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho at Pistol Creek for many years and usually flew the Heliporter in. It's a private dirt strip and my family had a cabin back there also and still does. Amazing airplane. Clay generally flew it up from Van Nuys CA in the spring and store it in Boise then fly it back to Van Nuys in the fall. Then he'd either fly Commercial or his Lear to Boise then fly the Porter into the Ranch, or run errands around the Idaho back country. But that's another whole set of stories!
Cool vid. Would be cool at the end to see a map with your exact flight path. I think Scotty Bob has been up to AK flying some mountains. You should go back for that!
CYR 109 is a military shooting range for ships and aircraft activated by NOTAM. Designated Airspace Handbook will tell you what each Class F airspace is in Section 5.
Alaska flying is gorgeous, the fog is something to get used to. In another life I flew from PABR to KLFT, I recorded 3 hrs of go pro great memories. I planed the flight using the interior route, two reasons there very few forced landing areas on your route ( helicopter mentality ); also my parents worked on the AlCan highway in the 1940s the terrain was very difficult according to my parents after seeing it from the air it was an increadable job pushing that road through wilderness. The Greatest Generation keeps on shining.
Thanks for doing this Scott, very cool scenery!! I have't heard about too many Porters getting shot down over Canada so I think you were pretty safe there. 8) --gary
I learned to fly in Alaska and live south of Seattle. As a kid, all I ever wanted to do was leave but after traveling the world and visiting most of the US, the only place I wanted to be was the great PNW.
My last time up that way was 2001 in October that year. I was the first helicopter flight allowed back to the US on a tango victor vfr flight plan to Bellingham. RCAF waved at me over the Queen Charlotte Islands from their F 15's 👋
I have a pretty lengthy list of dream planes to own and fly, but the Pilatus Porter is way up there no doubt. Would love to visit a dz that has one just to jump out of and also fly a couple loads right seat.
Scott- welcome to Seattle (eventually); assuming you're going into BFI? If you get into town, I'll buy you a beer! (I'm near the Needle) Love your content- especially all the AG stuff; wow. And given your affinity for the mountains, have you ever thought of relocating to Alaska...because I hear Denali calling. And closer to home, you've always got Rainier. (14,400ft.)
I've got a cousin that was born in Anchorage and now is a ATC at Anchorage International. And a botherinlaw who is VP of Mark Air no it's Northern Air Cargo all DC-6 s cargo out of Anchorage , AWESOME !!!
lmao! Scott practicing some canadian before crossing the border: "beatiful ketchican town harbour [aboat]" @12m14 (close enough man! great flight, very nice vid and beard.) That airforce closing in will probably consist of canadian geese....
Good vid, as a now fossil armchair aviator in Australia, I would love to see some take offs and landing approaches in your vids. Keep 'm coming. Cheers.
when you have never seen, this kind of terrain grandeur before, it can take the wind out of you, It is an imposing picture, Frome BC to Alaska, it is a playground to go wild, and it is where I live, nice job Scott, thanks for sharing man.
Great video Scott - the SE Icefields, and marine glaciers are awe inspiring - nothing else like that anywhere in the World! The Bagley Icefield and Mt Logan - it's impressive for sure!
Back at it Scott? Love Alaska se cept the daylight hour changes every 6 months. Looks like the Olympics and San Juan’s on steroids! How do you like the Ketchikan airport across the water from the town?!! Thanks for the film
