It's no good resting the barrel on the wood : you will get different impact points on each pellet , grouping is the requirement , on other point place your hand under the foreend to keep it from touch any wood. Nice video Cheers 🥂
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman Год назад
Good to note :) I honestly wouldn't have guessed it would cause problems with an air rifle barrel but it sure can't hurt to follow the rule. I know it can have quite a difference when shooting regular firearms.
@neiledwards8931
@neiledwards8931 Год назад
@@ProcrastinatingWoodsman I am afraid it does : the ammonices of the barrels changers causing the pellet to hit the target at different places . Even PCP rifles when being manufactured try to keep the barrel free floating meaning nothing touching the barrel because it will affect accuracy .

I think your resting it OK but the silenencer looks like it's touching the wood . Probably throwing it off a fraction. Good honest video. 👌
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman 2 года назад
Cheers! You are correct :) I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference on an Air Rifle but a few people have said it does which was interesting to find out. I know it plays a big role in .22 and large calibre shooting.

I picked up the Shockwave .22 last month. Out of the box it shot low and left(using the included scope). I sighted in on a bench. I had to go up about 80 clicks and right about 40 clicks. I am not getting groups as good as yours. I've seen some post air rifles get more accurate after 500-1,000 rounds. I am getting 2" groups with occasional flyers out to 3" at 15yrds.
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman 2 года назад
My scope was dead on arrival with mine but they swapped it out with a new one (the same type) it has been really good so far. What sort of pellets are you using? I have found the domed ones to be the best so far. Have you tried using the iron sights to see if its the gun or the scope? I've found the iron sights to be exceptionally good out to about 30m.
@texasroots
@texasroots 2 года назад
@@ProcrastinatingWoodsman Thanks for the reply. I have not sighted in the iron sights; I do plan to do that, I have seen reviews where the iron sights couldn't adjust enough to zero in. I was using the Crosman Hollowpoint pellets. I saw in another video hollow point pellets were the least accurate. In that video the domed pellets were the most accurate as well. I had ruger pointed pellets and those instantly brought me to 1" groups about 1" right of where I was zero'd with the hollow points. I have some Crosman domed pellets now I will test with next. I am happy if I can keep 1" groups.
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman 2 года назад
@@texasroots Hopefully your iron sights are good. Mine were pretty much dead on straight out of the box. I've had really bad accuracy with hollow points in the past as well with an older .177 rifle. They are pretty much close range pellets anything under 15m i would say.

Same thing with me spent 8 hrs trying to sight them in and im just like oh my god, used to just a few clicks on a .22lr scope but got it shooting a fingers grouping at 25+ yards still not happy with it

What scope are you using? Break barrel rated? Just curious
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman 2 года назад
Just the standard one that comes with the Air Rifle. Crosman I assume. It doesn't have any markings on it out side of a logo. I'd be guessing its break barrel rated. It would be ridiculous for them to put anything else on it, it wouldn't last too long.

Don't rest your barrel on something.. cradel the bottom of the stock , don't hold the rifle tightly. You'll see the difference.. pellets - rockets or dome shape.
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman 2 года назад
Normally I would be using a decent sand bag for a bench rest but that's good advice. This rifle is surprisingly heavy for an Air Rifle.
@gmanneod8085
@gmanneod8085 2 года назад
Nice shooting. I agree, never rest any barrel or barrel coverings. It changes point of impact at farther distances by slightly moving the hinge lockup on break barrels also affects barrel harmonics.

Is my gun broke or something? I'm not getting anywhere close to this accuracy
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman
@ProcrastinatingWoodsman Год назад
It can be the pellets sometimes. I would try a different brand. Something nice and pointy first. See how that goes. Then shoot from a bench rest positon without wind around. You'll know pretty quickly then. I have a new video up shooting bottles at pretty long distances and it's very accurate for such a cheap Air Rifle.

Started at 15m then 20 then stepped it back to about 40/45m when i was taking pot shots at the end. (my measuring tool wasn't long enough to measure that far. But anything within 20m with this rifle is really accurate as long as it isnt too windy. Even 30m is still quite good.

Not very likely. I wouldn't go less than a .22 for a fox and you'd want to make sure you get the perfect shot with high velocity rounds as well. . 22 Magnum and up would be better again though.

@@vonfields6889 That's a pretty impressive feat! What sort of distance? Would have had to have been reasonably close I assume?
