The one thing I was struggling with was the center plant. Knowing that it's best to start from a base seed with no genes is changing my game now. I am a massive tea farmer, each one of my wipes I have a 108 slot farm ready just needing to know cloning for that first 48 hours is crucial to beating other shopkeepers. Thanks. I had to rewind quite a bit because math a tough for me but this is by far the easiest tutorial I've come across. Also thanks for dropping the gene calculator information. I literally just used s time convertor the other day and in 2022 not sure how I just didn't assume that technology didn't already exist lol.
Rock solid work. Thanks a lot for continuing to put out these updated videos to include new information like the advanced 50/50. Your videos are very efficient and don't give any superfluous information.
Thank you Tamura! I didn't knew about the 0.6 factor and you did well by mentioning the priority plant thing. I spent like 3 hours trying to gain a clone from double genes.
this is a lot of information to take in at once, lucky I can rewind and look at it over and over again. nontheless, this is by far THE BEST guide of all the ones I've looked at. Been playing Rust for years, but never got into the genetics, crossbreeding or cared to even bother with it, until now. And omfg its a jungle of information. The game took a leap and a whole new world opened up. Been watching countless videos/guides and felt like I got just more confused, until this (your video). THANK you man! I really needed someone to straighten out all confused thoughts haha!
@2:24 This is a really useful table. Yield/Time ratio seems to be the thing to look for. So it is a question of GGGYYY for best Yield/Time, or GGYYY because although it is slightly slower, you get an extra clone.
Thanks, i didn't understand crossbreeding at all although i tought i did. One of the mistakes i was making is that i thought that the main seed you are going to crossbreed that it's Gene did matter. So therefore basically every attempt i did was a failure and not giving the expected result :). After seeing this video a lot became clear to me, and i find it actually very easy to do now. For me it is a bit like puzzling and i actually enjoy to do it. One tip i would like to give for anyone that is strugling to find the right samples with the right genes by looking in ur inventory and boxes etc. Just pick a blank paper and write down the genes of youre samples in a list. Then you have a much better overview on youre samples and it makes the selecting of samples by genes much easyer. Atleast it does for me. :)
Interesting, I think the three-way split technique is still a secret. I've never seen a video on it before. In all honesty it's time for that to be revealed. Tamura and everyone, if you choose a column with a G H Y in it and want a specific gene from those three, the original plant you use for cross breeding will retain its original genetic. For example if you plant a clone with a G in the first column and the three plants your crossbreeding have a G H Y, it will be a G in the first Column as the final result. No RNG required 👍. The reason this works is because you can't split 1/3 (.3333) evenly because coding languages round up, therefore the default code to a three-way split is nothing.
This video made alot of sense, now the whole thing about crossbreeding isn't that hard after all. Thank you for making the video and explaining in detail how it works and why
Man, the amount you improved in 8 months is amazing (i watched a video that was 10 months ago, and this was 2 months ago=8 months) also thank you for helping my ignorant ass😂 earned my sub👐
Finally figured out cross breeding. Step 1: Wander around all day until you happen upon a good plant w five green and one red gene. Step 2: Wander around for another half day, looking for another five green (just not that same combo as before) Step 3: Spend another two days and thousands of scrap, build a complicated, expensive growing house. Step 4: After all of that (and having been killed half a dozen times), voila! cross breeding. Simple, right?
Still farming to me is just way too much of a hassle for small groups. The amount of Materials and Scrap you need are just insane. If you do this on a high pop server, kudos to you but you might just have a tier 3 workbench in less time roaming the new tunnels, which are densely packed with scrap.
The idea is to be gaining scrap at dbl the rate while running tunnels and monuments (after you get your farm set up). So yeah there is some front end time sinks but if you are efficiently getting it up and running within the first night you can have a great passive income while you clean the house irl or whatever other chores you have going that day. It's guaranteed unless it gets raided but you shouldnt be stockpiling stuff in ur farm so theres little incentive for someone to raid. Be sure to stash some clones outside of your farm in aux base to hedge against a raid.
Only thing you didn’t explain was how to them make all your planter boxes have the same genes so you can get the same harvest for every single plant every single cycle. I still don’t get how to do that, I guess you have to use the clones to achieve it since the seeds are all random, it would be nice if the seeds you get from the perfect plants have the same genes but I don’t think that’s the case.
Great video as usual - 1:00 what’s the site open on the right monitor I’m sort of new to rust so having a site with information about things would be useful, cheers
I have a question that I figure you are the best person to answer since I can't find any answers anywhere else. Have they nerfed pumpkin farming? I spent a bunch of time getting a 2g4y pumpkin clone and they are only giving 5 per plant instead of the 70 I was expecting. My 2g4y hemp clone is giving me 70 still but not the pumpkins. Is it a bug or did they change it?
@@babyyoda6715 that's a shame, I used to get the same amount as cloth. Pumpkins are still the best food so I don't need that many but I was going to sell the excess.
9:23 with this technique you plant the central seed first, wait 5-10mins to plant your clones. If you wait for cross breeding stage, it's too late, the plant will cross breed immediately and no matter what you place next to it... it already has its final genetics.
You just plant the clones, harvest and then alternate between cloning and harvesting. If you have 2-3 Y genes you can go: clone, farm, farm, clone, farm, farm etc etc. You can't really get any more efficient. Just clone until you have lots, then harvest.. start cloning when you need more.
I still don’t understand when good clones can actually be harvested. I’ve never found that information in a video and I think I’m missing something obvious. If I make a “God clone”, when can I just plant that among other plants to harvest? Do I need to keep duplicating God clones every time I want to harvest one?
Once you have the perfect clone, you do cloning cycles. So say it produces 4 clones, fill all planters and clone once, then repeat and harvest 3x then clone. Each cloning cycle only takes 5-10 mins depending on ur setup and genes, but harvesting cycles take longer.
does the corner method work because there are 5 of the other and 4 of the one you want to change? do you always make the ones you want to change crossbreed first?
I have done a few harvests already without really worrying about crossbreeding as its my first time farming. Now that I want to begin crossbreeding, should I dispose of any seeds from plants I harvest that have very bad gene pools (4 or 5 red genes)?
@@tamura77Rust Thanks for the response even though my question was dumb LOL. I have been at it for hours now and have a perfect Blue and Red clone thanks to your video. You the man
Maybe i missed it but, how do you pick the plant to make sure it takes the black genes? when do you pick it? i see the black but everytime i pick it, it keeps the original traits. i cant seem to recieve a plant with the black genes instead of original when picking it.
is there a site, where i can just select the plant outcome (example your GGYGGY) dunk in the gene codes i have found, and it will auto select the best combo?
yes if you google cross breed calculator there are heaps, but they are limited because they are brute force algorithms. So in the long run learning to do it yourself is quicker, because you can only input so many genes before the application crashes/stalls. Therefore you need to know what genes you should be selecting to compare.
what happens when its y h g in the last column? does that mean it has a 33% chance to be one of them because i cannot for the life of me get a Y on the column i need
It won't change the original plant. Each green weighs 0.6, but you need at least 1.0 to "overwrite" the original. That's why I emphasise the need for "double ups"
so after you have crossbred your perfect ideal gene how do you go about duplicating the gene with the most efficient way? Plant the perfect gene at every corners only and pick it up during the saplings stage? Or fill the corner with normal seeds and the rest with the perfect gene to duplicate?
Don't worry about a center seed or corners, just fill the entire planter box with clones and keep cloning them as soon as you can. The process only takes ~7mins depending on ur seed, and you can triple your numbers each time. Once you have enough to fill up all of your planters, clone every 3rd or 4th cycle depending on number of Y genes.
@@ShineKia Correct, you can technically cross breed them into perfect clones but the %gain is minimal/insignificant given how quickly cloning is with good genes.
@@tamura77Rust Thanks dude! Good stuff! One last question if you don't mind, so when you are trying to get the clones with good genes, for those that are bad, do you just destroy them and place another or you let them grow and harvest them at ripe in the events that you don't have too much seeds?
@@ShineKia Harvesting them at ripe if you want more seeds (not hemp) is fine, or just to get the crop's resources. I often like to throw all the "bad" ones in a large box just in case I need them. When you move onto the 50/50 technique sometimes "bad" ones can be exactly what you need.
If you want to start farming on most wipes, you get quicker and quicker at going through the process. It becomes worth it very quickly if this is the case.
No all green weigh 0.6.. if there are two of the same one, like in my example, they add up to 1.2. So 2x G is 1.2, 2x H is 1.2, 2x Y is 1.2. 3x G is 1.8, 3x H is 1.8 etc etc. 2x W is 2.0, 2x X is 2.0 etc etc
Is there a way to crossbreed ONLY 2 clones together? I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. I always end up with a set of genes of one of the 2 starting clones, and not a mix of them. my genes are HYYYGG and YHHYGG. According to the math the first 3 genes should mix with a 50% chance of it being a Y or a H, right?
2 clones are harder to use because if there is no double up, the center plant KEEPS it's genes. The 50/50 only works when you have two Y and 2 Y for example. In your first slot the center plants genes will stay the same
@@tamura77Rust Weird, but when I used 2 of each clone (so 2x HYYYGG and 2x YHHYGG) in the corners, so that there are double ups, I always ended up with either HYYYGG or YHHYGG. Not once a mix of the two. Just trying to wrap my head around why that happens. I already got the perfect set of genes with the 50-50 method tho. Thanks for the tutorial!
what is the best food to grow? i've noticed you can't clone pumpkins until the final stages which makes them a real pain to crossbreed/clone. any suggestions?
oki i get that there is GYYYYYY... is the best and what not, oki i dunno if there is still that bug or have been changing but onestly the G-H-YYYY rest y is my oppinions the best seed , couse as i said i dunno if this is a bug or sommething but it should have 100-300 more cloth on depending on the warmth and ligth and water and overalstatus obviusly.
16:43 removed because repeated listens gave understanding. top to bottom. not left to right. [edit] wait... what? i got confused again and wish i left my original comment... what is "plant 1". when are we calculating left to right, or up to down? wtf? [edit2] after multiple watches/listens i got it in my brain. ell described troubling concept. as well described as it took me to take in the description. one go round ain't enough for tards.
@@Ppt.wafflez I have a private server so I use: server.planttickscale 10 server.planttick 10 This speeds the tick rate of growth up to every 10s instead of 60. And it grows 10x as fast, so overall 60x faster. You can change numbers to fit what you want.
This game is impossible to play and enjoy in the long-term on a single server . For example a new player should look for the words PVE before doing this.
Please don't tell people to play PVE. That won't help them get better at the game. Realistically, they'll have to do this on an actual server, under pressure. It's fine if they try on this on a build server, but of they wanna get good, they should play with a group on a vanilla, or solo/duo/trio on a modded
I think I understand except for one thing I can't find a video and yours either that explains the plant placement in the planter that makes the plant change what you need to change to.. so for instance do I put the plant I want to change in the middle of a planner and surrounded with plants that's where I'm getting lost cuz I'm not seeing it in this video
12:23 A random plant in the middle, then surround it with 2x near perfect, 1x another used in maths and 1x of another used in maths. When doing maths you're not considering the random clone in the middle, you only care about the surrounding plants. Plants don't consider themselves when crossbreeding. It will only retain its genetics (not change) if there aren't any doubles surrounding it (or no reds). Come to discord for more discussion if you're still confused.
