Hobo Joe's was a chain of coffee shops--each one had a smaller version of the statue you saw. They had great breakfasts and hamburgers, served with a freight train motif.
In the 70s there was a Hobo Joe's coffee shop a mile away from where I live. The Hobo Joe statue had a small dog at his feet and he was holding a tooth pick with a cigar butt.
Hobo Joe in Buckeye was repainted and put back in a place of honor by the Main Street Coalition. He was sculpted by a Disney Sculptor- I am surprised that you missed that fact. The woman who pushed hard to have him restored was Charlene Broadbent. She loved the City off Buckeye and the Mayor fought her on restoring and replacing him in the city because he didn’t want Hobo Joe to be a symbol for the city. She had land donated by the Youngker family. Charlene placed Hobo Joe such as the Mayor can see him from the third floor of City Hall. Sadly my friend Charlene passed in January 2021 from Covid 19. May she Rest In Peace and Humor knowing great people like Adam will have Hobo Joe and Buckeye living on for thousands.
Nothing beats some good ol' Americana. I've missed the roadside oddities and tourist traps so much. Thanks for doing this road trip! Videos like these are my absolute favorite. There's no one else I'd rather follow on a cross country trip!
Agreed! My work and family life would never allow me to do this type of adventure but I'd love it. Its great being a passenger on the Grand Tour of I10 with the ATW as the captain. And thanks for all the wonderful sidetracks along the way, many long forgotten.
Hobo Joe's used to be a restaurant chain in the late 60's and disappeared in the late 70's. The statues used to have him holding a stick with a bag on the end, and there was also a small dog at his feet. This statue is a throwback for me, as I remember eating at those restaurants when I was a kid in Phoenix.
Having just watched your friend Jacob the Carpetbagger Dixie Highway series, I am really looking forward to your travels. Please be safe and enjoy your discoveries.
Obviously he didn't or he would have waited to travel, winter storm warnings for much of the south was on all the news this past week, and travel advisories everywhere.
I said the same thing to my daughter! We saw a Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox more than 20 years ago when visiting my cousin in Eau Claire, WI. We live in a suburb of Milwaukee.
Another interesting tidbit about that stop where there was a demolished lower torso next to a cleared out restaurant. It was a a complex that included a restaurant (Nickerson Farms), a gas station and a trading post. The legs belonged to an Indian statue outside the trading post. The restaurant was known for producing its own honey, so I found it interesting that Adam found a bee in his steering wheel.... www.placesthatwere.com/2015/11/arizona-nuthouse-and-demise-of.html
Glad to see you're on your way! Love how your stopping to show off these lovely places! Oh and Remember to be ready for the fees when transferring the car title and such! Have fun and keep an eye on the weather!
This is so exciting! Safe travels! Feel like a kid on Christmas morning thinking about all of the amazing vlogs that await us! Can't wait to see you back in Florida! 💞
This is going to be so much fun, just what I needed! I'm so tired of all these holidays wiping me up! Husband passed ,I'm tired of crying! Thank you Adam the woo for taking me away! Please drive careful! God bless you for being so special!!!!
I have owned copies the first 3 of the 4 seasons Airwolf was on tv for many years now (DVD), and I surprised myself that I knew and remembered the actual episode name of "Sweet Britches" (Season 2; Episode 1) just from the scenery before Adam said they were featured in Airwolf. In between watching this video I watched that episode in its entirety. What a good memory jog since I have not watched an episode for a couple years now. Thanks for the jog down memory lane, Adam. :D
Man Airwolf was the best show! Great memories watching with my dad, I had a HUGE crush on Jan-Michael Vincent. This place is amazing! Thanks for showing it Adam 👊🏻
Adam so excited to see you back on the road again. This is where you do your best work and I'm sure I speak for everyone.Take your time with this trip and relax and enjoy our beautiful America.
Thanks Adam, love these videos the most. Would never get to see these things if not for you. For those of us that can't travel we get to explore with you!
Drive carefully. I know you are taking the southern route, but even in Texas they are having wicked winter weather. Thanks for taking us along with you!
Hello friend, to answer some questions, the flowers were lantana, the drum object is an antenna of sorts. The figure by the Nickerson farms was an Indian standing next to the trading post store/gas station/restaurant that used to be there. It was actually a super cool place that used to sell fresh honey and, had this super rad window you could see the hives, probably why there was a little bee that said hello. There is also a pretty neat little aviation museum near all those planes. Safe travels to you and thanks for showing some weird stuff throughout Arizona on its 109th birthday.
I can remember Jan Michael Vincent being one of the hosts of the " LA Millenium party" at a Van Nuys Airport hanger - and almost desperately pleading in an interview for someone to hire him, trying to convince people he was sober. It was heartbreaking to see.
Hi Adam, I absolutely love these kind of videos, driving and exploring 👍 Looking forward to your adventures!I enjoy your interesting and sometimes hilarious narration especially when you encounter wildlife which I’m sure is going to happen along the way😊

Ooow I am excited for this. I just love your road trips, safe travels Adam and can’t wait to see where you take us this time. 👍 I love the cactus 🌵🌵. Always remind me of the High Chaparral which was my favourite programme on a Saturday morning growing up in the UK 🤣.
Awesome. We went to the Air Museum in Tucson a few years back, is up the road from that ‘boneyard’ of older aircraft. You would love it, so many pieces of aviation history. :). Safe travels! Happy to follow along :)
I love your California Vlogs and Cross Country Tours Great to see America through your lens! The Muffler Man reminded me of a depiction of our famous Paul Bunyan from my home state Minnesota! Thanks for the vids!
