Great video! I am also diagnosed with K and have been living with it for the last 10 years. Surprisingly to me and my doctors, it hasn't progressed much over the years. I have 20/20 vision on my left eye and 20/25 on the right eye. I only wear glasses. Even that I am doing okay, you always live with the fear what if it gets worse! I am planning to do CXL on my right eye and still doing research and seeing different doctors to ensure I am the right candidate. Accepting your situation and trying to adjust your life style accordingly is the best you could do. when I was diagnosed, I was a student and very young and got very disappointed and depressed for a little while. But then I took that as an opportunity and tried to take the most out of it. Always look at the glass half full and enjoy your life as much as you can. If your vision is 20/25, 10/20, or 5/20, always remember that there are people out there having 0/20 vision and are ready to give out anything to have your vision for even a minute :) Find a good doctor, visit your doctor periodically, have the disease monitored and trust them. Internet is a good source of information but always remember the fact that medical science is an experimental field and your doctor is always the best source of information :)

Hello, I’d totally forgotten about my comment under this post. My vision is still the same as 18 years ago when it was first diagnosed. I mainly owe it to my positivity. Everything I said under this post six years ago still holds true :)

the aim of crosslinking is to arrest the progression of the condition or slow rown the progression. it is not aimed at improving your visual acuity. there are people who do see some improvement, but that is considered a bonus

Thank you! My 13 year old was diagnosed 2 years ago and the gas permeble contacts are sooo painful, so we have been researching new avenues. Your videos have helped us know not only what to expect during the procedure but the reality of what we can expect after. It also helped to relieve his anxiety.

very important point....people neglect or underestimate the emotional impact... I am scheduled to get mine done on my right eye in a month.... I agree we are all told from day one that this procedure is only to halt the progression of Keratoconus but we all have our own expectations (humans lol) I cant wait to get mine done.... congrats to you Sarah and hopefully the PRK went well and that your vision is much better...

I had keratoconus in my right eye but luckily it was diagnosed at early stage. CXL was recommended by dr. and i had it done two weeks ago. I am very happy because I was told that it only stops the progression of keratoconus but, besides fogginess, my vision has improved alot, Alhamdulilah. I was not expecting this at all. My right eye vision was worse than that of left one but now i can see much better with the right eye without specs and I am so glad to be one of such lucky patients who gets vision improvement as well.

I have this condition as well. I have been wearing hard contact lens for years. After recently misplacing one, I called my doctor. He informed me there was a new soft lens available and the results have been positive. So off to the Doctor I go. The fitting was difficult and required a few tries, but the results are fantastic. The lens are made by Alden Optical. I have them for a couple of months now. My vision checks have tested in the 20/20 range. If any of this helps, email me for more info....Good Luck!

hello im 23 yr old male and i have cross-linking last year in vancouver BC by dr mcarthy and it was a success my vison was 20/25 before and after and still now my vision is 20/15 (better than 20/20 in the eye i got it done which is my right eye... complete miracle and i was perfect candidate because it was the starting stage of the disease so im happy your eye is doing good I know the patient didnt get better vision but I did and everyone is different from person to person i wear no intacts or any prescriptions, also starting many weeks after surgery vision is much worse but will get better over long time but worth it!

@ajj4022
@ajj4022 8 лет назад
oh it was fast actually, within a few days your good to go and now its actually covered under MSP, i went to a specialist named Dr.Mccarthy. I paid 1500$ but now its covered for free. Its not super painful or anything its just annoying for a few days but just make sure you take all the eyedrops as required before and after for best healing and results its a lot better than doing a full cornea transplant because the healing on that is months apparently... im not a doctor by the way
@ThePantyDroper
@ThePantyDroper 8 лет назад
Apple Juice Covered by MSP!? That's great news. I'm glad I waited I then. I got a consultation at Lasik MD and they wanted $3600 for both eyes but that's without MSP coverage. My doctor sent me to a specialist but he only does the procedure. He doesn't do post-op care. Lasik MD takes care of you for a full year included in the cost. After your surgery were you able to use your glasses? Or did the prescription change?
@ajj4022
@ajj4022 8 лет назад
Yes you are lucky its covered now and it is worth it, there i no real need for spending money on post care because there wasnt really any need for it, its is probably just a selling point for the other company... the crosslinking helped my vision a lot!

I had a cross-linking treatment exactly 9 days ago. First day (more like first 12 hours after treatment), it was very difficult, especially since, when we came back from the clinic, it was just at the time the sun set and i had it right in the eyes just as the pain-killing meds wore off, heh... But the next day, i was doing good enough to get out of bed and eat with the family. And now, my vision is coming back -- still not completely there, though. By your testimony, i should be patient. :)

Yes protocol for each doctor varies but you must have a certain thickness of cornea for them to do it. For my doc it was 400 after epithelial was removed. I had 486.
