Lol yes, but if people have never stitched before they don't know what any of that means, nor what it looks like in the shop. :)

Someone gave me cross stitch stuff and I gave it away and then someone else gave me more. I think someone is trying to tell me to STRETCH. Cross stitch intimidated me.
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 6 лет назад
Haha don't be intimidated Heidi -- if you can count to ten and thread a needle, you can do cross stitch. :)

Peacock & Fig It just looks so complicated and I felt like the thread would tangle up if I just LOOKED at it! Lol

Awesome video! I really want to get into cross stitch. It looks easy to travel with and relaxing.

Haha yes it is easy to travel with, just check with airlines for their flight regulations on scissors (usually with blades under 4" long is fine, but do check). It's a great travel project, one woman sent me a pic of her stitching on a beach in Mexico.... 😂

Peacock & Fig Thanks! I look forward to traveling with cross stitch. How do you pack it for travel so the thread does not get tangled?

I use bobbins, and I put them onto a binder ring to keep them all together. :)

Can I use hoop if I dont have q snap? I'm working on a big pattern but it's hard enough to do without hoop and I need to curl my fabric.. Thank you :)
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 6 лет назад
Hi Felicia! Absolutely -- I personally don't like Q-snaps, I find them bulky and hard to hold. So if a hoop works best for you, use that. Or you may find you prefer a stitching frame, or even stitching in hand (without a hoop). It's all personal preference. 🙂

Silly question, and sorry if it’s been asked before, but does it matter on the size of the needle? Size 14 Aida fabric and 18 needle for example?
@peacockandfig
@peacockandfig 6 лет назад
Hi there! Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn't get a notification of your comment. 🙂 Usually for 14 count Aida, I'd use either a size 24 or 26 tapestry needle. The bigger the number, the finer the needle. A size 18 needle would push aside your fabric too much, and thus potentially leave holes in your stitching. I sometimes use a size 22 when I'm using metallics, using a slightly larger needle helps reduce friction on the metallic thread as it passes through the fabric. 🙂

Good morning!, I just want to ask where I can buy the wooden scroll bar frame?, Any suggestions? Thank you. I like your videos and find it very helpful =)

Hi Jean! I got mine from a local needlework shop, but you can get them from most stitching shops (or order them in). For online you can try places like 123stitch.com in the US, or sewandso.co.uk in the UK (they ship globally). 🙂

I'm enjoying your videos and working up the courage to begin cross stitching. Is there a brand of Aida fabric that you recommend? I want to buy some for practice pieces.
@peacockandfig

Hi Trish! For practice just buy whatever you can get, often craft stores or big box stores like Walmart or Michaels will have a generic or store brand. It's not fantastic quality, but it'll be good for you to learn on. Once you really get into the swing of things, if you have a local needlework shop I'd go there, as they often have higher quality fabrics. Zweigart is one of my favourite manufacturers, they're German but their fabrics are sold globally. Their Aida is so lovely and soft, it's like butter in your hand (whereas the store brands are often quite stiff as they have a lot of sizing in them). But Zweigart Aida will be more expensive, so for just brand new stitchers I'd recommend the generic brands at first to try it out and see if you even like the hobby. And you don't need courage to start, just do it. If you can thread a needle (and I even have a tutorial on that) and count to ten, you can cross stitch. 🙂

So do you have a really easy design so I can get a feel for it, please?

@peacockandfig 6 лет назад
Haha yes I do, if you go to my site and join my Peacock Lounge email list, you can access all my free pattens (I have cross stitch and embroidery ones). You can sign up for free at peacockandfig.com/join-now. The Tiny Heart freebie pattern is especially designed for beginners, I have another video that shows a quick preview of how to do the stitches and I used that pattern in the video. That video is also the first in my beginners playlist, so you'll be well on your way to being a stitching guru once you have a little play and watch that series -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2NmQ7LZwLWw.html. 🙂
