This was my favorite game in my childhood. I can still hear the sound of the crossbows breaking the plastic walls. And of course i had no idea that this game had rules!
I'm 36. This was my favorite game growing up (aside from video games). I see that the original game now sells for quite a bit on eBay. Glad they re-made this game. Thanks for the review.
I had the British / U.K. version of this and although the components look identical I think I remember large citadels (not just the towers in this video) where if you performed a direct hit on the citadel front door if would spring the soldiers on the top of the said citadel straight into the air ! did I dream this ?? did I have an expansion for the game ? I can't remember it was 30+ years ago ! And yes it was Crossbows and Catapults from the 1980s (around Talisman 1st edition time), the box cover artwork doesn't seem familiar but the rule book does.
No you didn’t dream this; I had the same set as you described Citadels and Towers. I also had some of the expansions, a Dragon that worked like the Catapult launching a battle carom/disk out of its mouth, a Minotaur that launched it from his horns, and a Cyclops (I think) that launched it from his hands. Good times.
I had this on the UK too. I had the Trojan Horse and Shield thing as well as the Battering Ram which was arse. This was probably one of the most memorable Christmas presents I ever got and I grew up when you got given an original X-Wing or AT-AT for Christmas.
During this Corona shut down I bought an unopened set on eBay to play with my son, he loves it as much as me, we’ve played this for hours. I’m 43 now and still enjoying this game after all this time
When I was a kid one of my mother's friends worked in marketing for a toy company or store, and she organized a play date to have a bunch of people bring their kids (including me) to play with the latest toys and watch their reactions. I don't remember what the other toys were, but they had Crossbows and Catapults and I thought it was amazingly cool. Toy soldiers that actually did battle instead of just standing around. Great concept. I never knew anyone who actually owned a set though, so I guess other kids weren't as excited by it.
Thanks great review, brings back lots of memories. One gameplay you forgot was knuckles, take out your opponents hand as they fire, creates some atmosphere, make them earn each shot.
there r sum gud rules there which i didnt knw b4 like knockin your apponents projectile out ov the way...really useful vid thnks for postin, top game this!
I played this with my son in the 1980s! Do you have any idea how to get a set? One of the great all-time games and it seems they don't make it any more!
Lol this is exactly how I played it. I just bought it fir my 6 year old and he loves it! I love playing it with him also but he's starting to become a sore looser lol!
That's illegal rubberband use friend, only one small one is allowed, lol. My brother an I wound play this game for hours on the kitchen floor, my mother always ended the games when it was time for her to cook dinner. I remember having to collect rubberbands as a kid cause it suck when one would break without backups. Definately one of the best games from my childhood.
what? no dude he said "it can be used as a starting point to launch another attack from in a later turn provided it isnt captured by ur opponent..." dont u hav speakers n shit?
