As I tried to read the rulebook, I found it very vague and obscured. For instance, it doesn't say that at the beginning of the turn you have to DRAW A CARD from ghost deck. And I just sat there puzzled as to when am I supposed to get a ghost into play.
@dicetower thx for you awesome Videos First:) I have a rule question: Question: At a ying phase do only haunter ghosts of the current ACTIVE player (or active board) go one place forward or do all haunter ghosts move one place forward at a ying phase? For example there are haunter ghosts at the red, blue and yellow board and the red players ying phase begins. Do now all of these haunters move one forward or only the haunter ghosts which are located at the red board? Because I think the rules say that only the one's of the active players are moving, but I saw people on RU-vid do it different.
LOVE this game. So fun. We have a yearly week long get together of our online gaming friends and we make have pins where you get a pin every time you win a game for prizes at the end of the week. This game is so hard everyone gets a pin if they win, and the box gets the pin if it wins. There are a LOT of pins in this box now.
I bought this game in 2009 and at the start I was finding it hard, like this guy says but know I can win at the hardest level of difficulty. I've bought the Black Secret expansion set wich is pretty crazy stuff. You can now control Wu Fang and it's pretty hard to win as Wu Fang on normal difficulty. really good review, I suggest you go bought this game, you never get tired of it. The game is so random so every game is totally diffrent.
Could anything be done to make the game slightly easier without ruining the play-ability and integrity of the game? Start out with 1 more Qi? Remove a couple ghosts from the deck? Allow more middle tiles to be haunted? I love everything about this game except the apparent impossibility to win, so I would like to know before I buy it if there is possibly anything that can be done to make it a bit easier to possibly win. I think what he means is this. You know during the Yin phase you have to bring in another ghost? If you have three ghosts on your boards, you don't do that and lose one Qi token.
I just bought this game a couple weeks ago to play solo, and I love it, despite it being insanely hard (only time I beat it, I wasn't playing the Buddha rule right). I just play the four player rules and control all four, because there's no hidden information or communication limits.
Anthony Westbrook I’ve just bought it, only now have realised how hard it’s supposed to be. So you’re still enjoying it despite the difficulty level? Have you played it with a group yet. How many times ha e you won/lost? Cheers :)
@@trojan403 I only play it at its easiest setting, and it's probably generous to estimate my win rate at about 20%. I think I've played 20 time? I for sure have to be in the right mood to play it, but its difficulty is part of its magic: doing well requires really good choices. Sure, bad luck can kill you, but good luck won't save you on its own. So every win, or even just a well fought loss feels pretty good.
Anthony Westbrook Cheers. That makes total sense, I was almost regretting buying it, knowing my game group may not like to get smashed, but knowing it’ll be a nice challenge even on one player is good to know. Do you still play all four players, or have you tried solo mode as well?
This is my top favorite co-op game specially because it's so hard. We play this way more often than pandemic even though we bought pandemic later. But yeah, if you don't like losing miserably three or four times in a row don't buy it. That being said, you slowly get better ;)
This guy is really good at reviewing board games. I've just been losing sleep browsing his channel all night and now I'm probably going to be late for class :-). Ya I'm definitely going to show some of these games to my siblings.
It's the firs co-op game I have ever played! I completely agree with Tom, difficulty levels should definetly be renamed...:) After around 12 games, we've won once...however I'm always willing to play that game. The biggest problem with Ghost Stories is poor rulebook, it lefts too many questions unanswered.
It is a great game, but also very, very hard. It is very possible to lose all of you Qi (life force, hit points, something like that) in two turns. But hey, co-op games are meant to be difficult and it's way more fun to get a real challenge so those rare cases, when you actually manage to beat the game, feel a lot better. =) Thinking about buying White Moon, thanks for both of these reviews, Tom!
Yoooo a group of friends and I beat this he today and it was our first time playing other than this other dude who played the game 12 times and only won 4 and he said we just got lucky
I remember once I played this on Hell level, which is the hardest difficulty. Single player, so me against the ghosts. I lost all my Qi by around the 6th ghost.
@AlexTheUruguayan This comment was stupid, Pandemic is a really good game and can be nearly impossible to win if you play on hard settings. I'm not even talking about the expansions, it's hard as hell. Maybe you think you are a real board gamer and that the rules are too simple. But for people who just want to have fun with friends (older than 13 years old too), it is really fun.
Tried downloading the game but am bored already after waiting for the dialogue to stop after 15 minutes. If I play a game I want to be able to skip past the stupid plot that never makes sense and has nothing to do with the outcome of a game. I understand it does buy some time while the game loads but I would rather see a notice saying please wait while we load the game...rather than a monologue that a 1st grader would get bored reading...reminds me of the see spot run book I had in my early years. I have lost interest and now that I have vented will delete the game to remove any future frustrations! That is if it has finished loading...contact me again when you figure this out...better yet pay me a wage & I will figure it out for you!
True, but you gotta admit that the spelling "Qi" is confusing for regular people. And anyway, pronouncing it as "key" is not a huge sin because that's the pronunciation of "ki", the Japanese word for the same concept.
Shadoes Over Camelot isn't a pure cooperative game - more like a team game where you don't know who's on your team. Anyway, Pandemic is better than Shadows or try Forbidden Island if you plan on playing with kids under 13 years old.
