They were 5-10 meters away from him on paddle boards. Atheltes were screaming that he was drowning while a spectator jumped into the water only to be told by a lifeguard that he needs to go back. That same life guard then paddled up to Lazar, circled around that position a few times then left. It took a full 3 hours for a full rescue operation to commence
TBH the format is irrelevant Ive done long swim run events.. and it is like 5 runs with 6 swims in-between covering from 15km running in total and 6km in swimming... the swimmers are not close to each other, and not grouped together... this is sadly something that should have been seen with lifeguards, I do think more lifeguards need to be present... although again in swim run in rough seas we do not have lifeguards as near as in this video.
I disagree. I'm not trained, and I could see in the video that he was in trouble... he was near the end, there were many people watching and yet nobody did a thing. Absolutely disgraceful!
The fact the life guard didn’t dive in the water after being told by that guy on the side is incredibly depressing! She failed humanity, I’m sorry. You at least dive in the water and TRY to find that poor man that drown!!!
unrealistic. if many athletes in the water at the same time and he didn't struggle and just went under there would have needed to be a guard assigned to each swimmer. even then, in lake water they would have not been able to locate him in time to save life. even the ironman triathlon does not have a one to one guard ratio.
@@Kevin-jf5bwI disagree! The life guard that was told the man went down didn’t even attempt to jump in the water and save him. That’s completely wrong on every level and she told the man who wasn’t a life guard to not even try. A complete disgrace, I’m sorry!! You at least TRY!!
Exactly my thoughts as well. Either he passed out or had a heart attack or some other kind of problem. I hope they'll make the cause of death public. RIP 😢
One of the first things you learn about swimming is how to float face up in a resting position or facedown in the water while breathing out and lifting your head out of the water to breathe in. A sudden sinking is probably a cardiac arrest and loss of consciousness.
it is very obvious from the drowning video to see what went wrong; the lifeguards were following the competition, looking all the time at the competitors who came close to the shore, they never kept an eye on the other swimmers!!!! They were just staring down on the two closest swimmers. He died because unprofessional lifeguards didn't care.
I remember swimming too far and my legs tired. I wanted you to stop but I knew I would die. I haven’t swim that far since then. The fear is horrible I Cant imagine the pain and fear he felt. Since his ended in death terrible
I have only seen a couple of video for 5-7 seconds. I totally understand that the guys on paddle boards could miss that. But 2 minutes you say? Where's the video?
This should have not happened on their watch. Not being able to ensure every elite athletes safety is beyond words. You can get an heart attack in any event, but to miss it completely??? Nah, this is such a disgrace. Svara
No trying to be offensive but I guess that’s why in triathlon and duathlon you generally do the swim first - to reduce the likelihood of these kinds of incidents. Also where was the safety staff there should have been staff propositioned on the lake on boards or kayaks to assist anyone in distress. This should never happen especially at an elite level event.
As Serbian I am absolutely In shock that organizers and people who look over for athletes especially during swim portion failed in one job they have! This is an absolute tragedy for our country that is not very big but very united. Laka ti Zemlja Brate! Tvoj duh je sa nama!
They are SUPPOSED to have small boats along the swim way and people on kayaks ready to pull people out of water. Also, there are snakes and other animals in the water because its not a pool.... why were there no buoys for them to hold onto just to get a breather and then go on???? I dont get it. This is why people fear crossfit.
they had life guards lined up along the path on paddle boards, with jet skis as well. There were around 80 athletes total. He was about 100m's away from shore and in a top spot. It's a very unfortunate incident. Some people are speculating if it was a cardiac issue since Lazar is known for his swimming background as a water polo player. Either way, it's a tragic loss.
ever watched a triathlon? they can't monitor all swimmers at all times in open water. i got kicked in the face during a triathlon in the middle of a lake and panicked for a few moments. i was on my own and had to fend for myself. gained my composure, found my googles and I believe still finished in the top 5. risk is part of the thrill.
@@lifewithluis2004 she saw him drowning , and didn’t recognize it. I’m my opinion if you’re going into any sport swimming or any water recognize drowning, it’s subtle
@sololuisvlogs: That is the difference between the average Joe and high-level competitors. They compete in a framework that requires an incredible level of performance and harbors a certain amount of risk that cannot be completely mitigated.
A very hot day, starting with a run and going in cold water afterwards. The heart overload is tremendous and an accident like this one was just a matter of time to happen. 😢
Watching him on video you could tell half way that he was not recovering but drowning. His bobbing was becoming ineffectual. Don't know how the lifeguards missed this.
Dont blame the lifeguards, they were volunteers. Blame the organization hosts for hiring volunteers in the first place and not taking heat into consideration placing swimming AFTER running!!!
unlikely. Besides the fact that he was himself a lifeguard, he also played water polo for 10 years. He swam the event 2 days prior with no issues and was one of the most proficient swimmers in the field. Many people didn't believe it was him who drowned for these reasons. He was treading water before it happened. I'm thinking heart attack or something else
They should have done the swim first, not after any other exercise activity - that’s just crazy! As mentioned by others, there should have been resting platforms of some sort situated at various points of the swim for competitors to rest on or get a breather, make adjustments to their gears or a time for them to withdraw from the competition for whatever reasons…
I wouldn’t set foot in ANYbody of water in Texas. Gators have been spotted all over north Texas. I know a gator didn’t get him, but anyone in those waters is nuts.
There are no gators in Marine Creek Lake, it is disconnected from the Trinity River by the dam and otherwise surrounded by housing developments and schools.
@sammyday3341: What a load of nonsense! Alligators are not like crocodiles -- they are usually afraid of humans and rarely attack. You're more likely to be attacked by a stray dog than an alligator.
you would be surprised, it’s more common than you’d think! people say oh look at triathlons, yes also common for run swim run tris as well! Iron Man’s and half IMs are what people go to, a half mile swim is hard yes but put it into perspective, it is more common than not
Something was missed or not planned right - good grief ! - it took an hour before anyone noticed he was missing ? - hope none of those organizers are a spotter at the gym
I am Shocked and sad how this Happened while Rescue Team was arround😢 they should be People Checking the list of the Athletes that are still on the Water swimming. Te fact that they discover his Body after 3hrs i realy cant say anything but asked the Question how they didn't Noticed it while they are filming them?
Lamentável a fatalidade.
Not sure how the law works in the US (money will likely help), but if this was in the UK someone would definitely be going down on a manslaughter charge - likely Dave or the owner of CF. Let's wait for the report of course but surely there is an ongoing police investigation?
As I know, its not a heart. I was with Lazar for six years in a relationship in high school, and that period, and I heard that they didnt found anything. Which is weird but thats for it…
He obviously could swim, swimming can be a tiring activity and when a swimmer gets tired they tend to hyperventilate, thinking they need to take in more air when they actually need to exhale. This causes panic and an unrelaxed body can’t float very well. This why I say that swimming is 90% being relaxed and 10% technique
fewer people have died whide participating in an NFL game, a sport where 300+ lb men with enough exogenous tetosterone in the bodies to make Ronnie Colemen nervous smash into each other headfirst multiple times over the course of a roughly 3 hour event, than have died during an official CrossFit event. fewer people have died during the course of a UFC event, a sport where 2 athletes spend between 15 and 25 minutes doing their best to inflict bodily injury, up to and including unconsciousness and broken bones and torn ligaments, onto their opponent, than have died during a sanctioned CrossFit competition. it's time for the Crossfit commlnity to stop living in constant denial about the risks and dangers of their sport and take some responsibility for the health and safety of themsevles and their peers.
@Curt-iy7ck So for all the people who did and yet have no measurable decline in health or performance, did the programmed time release from their dose malfunction?
One of the fittest people in the world? You all need to get over yourselves. You are not the top athletes in the world BY ANY MEANS. THis all ego driven madness which killed this guy.
