Crossing the Kalahari on our motorcycles, with no way out. 🇿🇦[S2EP10]

Today we are leaving Bloemfontein and make our way to Prieska through the Kalahari in South Africa. The name means "a great thirst", and that is definitely very fitting. Once we turn on the gravel road, there is no easy way out and at the start the dogs living at the trash dump are not welcoming us very friendly. Soon the road becomes long, hot and dusty, showing us the harsh reality of living here. Many hills and many many gates later, we arrive in the small town of prieska, where we are warmly welcomed.

I have a lovely elderly neighbour, Marie-louise, and she grew up in Prieska. She tells the most amazing stories of growing up there. Her Mom ownd the restaurant in town and her Dad the electrical shop. Such an interestingly and place!

The stories from people growing up in small towns are the best ones. Everyone knows each other and back then everyone still helped each other out. Can imagine that growing up in kalahari country she must have great stories to tell

Cissy, each time you open a gate for Werner, you must cup your hands together in front of you and shout: "Sweeeets!" every time he rides through. You would have had pocketfuls after that road to Prieska.

A really nice route and a nice bit of riding. Do you adjust/manage the suspension for the routes you take?

Hi thank you so much! No we have set both bikes suspension up with the weight we carry, we do not change the setup every time the road changes. We do how ever change the tire pressure if we know we going to do long days on tar, other wise we keep it to our off-road / gravel road pressures.

Just subscribed and now following you guys. I also ride a KTM 890R, and I'm very jealous of your far-ranging travels. Can I ask what tyres you are using?

Thank you for subscribing! Both bikes are running on Anakee Wilds atm. It works awesome for the 390, but Werner doesn't like it that much for the 890. He says he looses traction on the back tire all the time, he didn't had that with the Karoo 4 (that were on the bike before). The 390 already has the Anakee Wild front wheel on for over 20 000 km... and the back tire about 12 000km and it works perfectly. When we need to change tires we will go to the Mitas Enduro Trails XT+ and try them out. As you can see we keep changing tires for the 890! Karoo 4 did well though. Hope it helps.
