My 8 year old croton bloomed this summer! I didn’t even know they do that. It definitely can have an attitude if it’s not 100% happy!! I’m in Texas. This summer it seemed happiest facing north/east Sun in AM’s and filled light from west sun rest of day. It’s inside now due to cold…pouting a bit. Lol
I have been very reluctant to our my plants outdoors for fear of pests and bringing them back in doors. Been having a"fun" time with spider bites for the several months. Not sure where they came from.
Beautiful plants! I keep all 5 of mine in the scorching Macon, GA sun!🌞I'm about an hr south of Atlanta, Ga. I water them every 2/3 days... literally drown them, because the soil is well draining. Mine are orange, purple, pink, yellow and some are almost a very dark purple! I love them! They are so colorful!
Thank you for the "push" to put my Crotons outside, Sis. They are so beautiful indoors and added so much to my space. But I put them on the patio where they get morning sun and they love it. They are even more beautiful.
Finally, some one from Texas giving plant advice! Thank you. I am in south Texas I just purchased a couple of crotons and your video is helpful, thank yo!
Mine is doing well indoors, I’m in Texas too and I was worried about it getting too much light, but I’m also running out of room on my windowsill, thanks to you I’m going to try putting it outside!
I’m so happy I found you. It definitely say full sun. I’m in Dallas and whew I was so confused as to what was happening. So you helped he understand. Thank you
Great advice - my croton petra is right by the front door! You're so right to wean it onto the outdoors. I start by putting mine on the screen porch, then morning sun, and then the 6+ hours of harsh afternoon sun here in the Charlotte, NC area, zone 7b. I just repotted it into a 3 gallon plastic nursery pot, but my soil mix is very airy with perlite and orchid bark. It is growing like crazy and hasn't dropped any leaves. It will be sad to come inside and my plants all "pout" around February because they're ready to go back outside. I wean them to the outside temps as well, so they can be okay if the temps drop into the low to mid 50s. Moving all my houseplants outdoors has been a game-changer for them. The croton, pitcher plants, and hoya have been the most happy about their outdoor home.
@@huhsnare They are nepenthes, actually. I found them at Home Depot last year. I haven't seen any this year, and I've got connections for the Gaston Co. Lowes and HD, so I usually know who has what!
Hi! Thank you so much for this helpful informative video! I just bought my very first croton and was searching for care tips and thank goodness i found u! Love from Singapore!
Mine is 10 years old. It has gotten lanky. I want to know if it's ok to top it off to encourage growth towards the bottom?I have lots of arms with this one.
I was looking at this plant yesterday and took a pic to remind me this will be my next. I love the colors. It’s too cold here though to leave it outdoors all year long.
Crotons I started out kinda liking to not liking to loving it. Not to toot my own horn but my Crotons are awesome... and I to reside in North Texas. Fort Worth to be exact
I live in Scotland so even in the summer most nights are below 15°C so I think putting it outside might kill it. I'm pretty new to plant parenting so fingers crossed that it survives as I can pretty much kill a fake plant 🤔🏴
I bought mine on clearance, dying, as "assorted house plant". Before this, I haven't been a plant person. I've had it for a bit over three months. It's taken a lot of trial and error and a lot of dropped leaves, but we're getting there. Unfortunately I'm in a dry as hell area and we're still getting snow....
Hello I have my croissant facing east I get three hours sun but the leaves turn around some of them crispy at the top is the first time I don’t know what to do I just give her water and I don’t know what to do I love that plant I like your video to let me know please and thank you
I literally just put my croton babies outside because I thought I was losing them to the spider mites!! I was really nervous at first because I’ve placed them outside before but the newer leaves flipped over!!! So I brought them back in the house right away. I’m in Houston so the sun is no joke!! Now they’re outside and have started to branch off within weeks of me putting them out!! I’m so excited!!
@@greenmable475 yes absolutely!! I sprayed Neem oil on them, misted them with my hose, and placed them by my front door which is facing NE. So they get all the morning sun. Thank you so much for your videos, I’m brand new to the hobby!
Great informational video! Glad I stumbled onto it. I have a big petra croton that I've kept in the original plastic pot it came in from Lowes. It sits outside and gets full sun wach day, but it's been raining almost everyday here in FL and I'm scared that my plant is getting overwatered. My croton is wilting terribly. How can I best bring them back from wilting so that they can be happy again or is it too late? 😢
South Florida full sun is great for my garden crotons. You would be amazed at how colorful they become in full sun. My Petra has no green, just yellow, orange, red and purple.
@@Ralondat because losing leaves is their love language. They take a LOT of work to keep alive indoors. And spider mites love them even more than alocasias
Help!...my first exposure was with a Petra that died-transplant shock-so I tried again and the 2 are doing ok. But I have an Iceton that is about to run me crazy. Only had a couple weeks and although the leaves are colorful and standing up, one by one the leaves are turning brown from the inner section of the leaf and just shriveling up. It's in a sunny room, on a pebble tray, with moist soil on the dry side and I've treated for pests twice. I'm ready to chop it up, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi! I love your channel and content! I was wondering, do you have any croton petras that went into transplant shock and survived… I had to repot the croton we received at my mother in law’s funeral last year on Saturday and by Sunday evening it went into complete shock. All the leaves wilted and and about 6 of them fell off… I am so devastated. Is there any hope to saving it???
I live in Northeast Texas and I just got a crouton at an estate sale. It’s beautiful, but I have it outside and I wondering if it is deer resistant I have a lot of deer come through my yard.
I really want to evict my temperamental croton to the patio for Summer. Hoping the cooler nights here in Sacramento won’t be too much. How hot can they tolerate if sufficiently shaded?
Jaleesa: Don't just take your indoor croton outside and have it in the sun all day...🙅🏾♀ Me: Too late! And yes, they did BURN to a COMPLETE crisp 🤷🏾♀
Should I cut some of the leaves from the dryness because I’m so sad I look at it it’s so sad I spray some water every day and evening and I don’t know what to do anymore thank you if you let me know please
If you want to place it outside I recommend under a patio cover to shield it from direct sun. and water daily for sure. Texas heat is no joke as. you know 💚
Greetings, you might be able to help me identify problem. Lately my croton started growing new leafs, like everywhere. Top, sides, everywhere new little leafs. Problem I am facing is: old leafs are getting one spot which drys them. Basically one spot shows on leaf and its like spreading to all over. I am afraid all old leafs are going to fall out :( Any advices?
I have these bug in my plant that I can not identify there like. A centipede I there a lot of them growing on the top soil I think there called scolopendra will they hurt my plat
I’m new to growing plants. Can I use fertilizer 13-13-13 to add to my existing Croton which is has three stems from the soil that stands about 15 inches tall? I don’t know how to Fertilize it.
It’s about to be fall+winter here in Canada so I brought my croton in trying to save it for 10C drop at night. Placed it on a south window in the bathroom and it literally threw a tantrum …… the audacity…. easily the most dramatic plant I own
Can they handle temperature swings? We have all seasons in a week kind of weather, one day 30°C and the next 15°C. Mine doesn't have much leaves left but I'm not ready to give up xd
@@greenmable475 oh yesssssss! I was determined to bring it back!!! It’s missing leaves but it’s doing well. I wanted to plant it outside but living in the south i guess it too hot for it.
I'm not a croton person but I got a couple (Zanzibar) just to put in my aquariums as contrast to my pothos & peace lilies (submerged roots only) to suck up the extra nutrients. ^^
