I started practicing every day and immediately I saw improvements: All the people in my life started avoiding me starting with my coworkers, then my friends, then my boss. He fired me. Then my spouse left me and took the kids. My parents stopped talking to me. Now, the crows bring ME peanuts.

this is a good time to befriend a crow. You do it before the babies are born, and especially before they fledge. Get yourself some bread and throw it out when you see them. Then, when they start looking for those treats, if it interests you, switch to fig newtons broken into squares. Every place I've lived, I've had a crow and spouse. Such smart birds. by now, mine have learned to utter a very quiet coo sound to let me know they're there. (they sit on the eves). this allows me to feed them without their alerting the entire crow population.

I love crows! I've learned concepts of their social behavior by being around them. Every now and then I'd get a crow that I know is acknowledging my presence. One was calling me from a power line above and I called back to it. It started make clicking sounds that I couldn't mimick. I've learned that crows will allow you to get close to them when you slower your walking pace and look away from them. They also greet each other by perking their beak upward and turn their head. One morning I was walking to work and one tried to feed me a walnut.

Big Daddy is huge. Scout I recognize because of his behavior. Scout even goes to my daughters house, wanting food. She lives a couple houses down from me. Crows recognize faces. My daughter has stayed at my house and fed them before. So Scout knows her and knows where she lives. 😆 🤣 😂 crazy huh!!

Years ago the relationship between my cat Aurora and I was becoming increasingly strained. I was traveling for weeks at a time and each time I came home, he was progressively more and more upset with me. On one particular occasion, the day after arriving home, I was a few blocks away from the house, and I heard a cat's voice above me on the telephone wire. A Crow was up there, mimicking exactly the same sad expressive meows and yowls that Aurora had poured out to me the night before! The Crow seemed fully aware of what was happening with us, like it was public knowledge..was the Crow calling me out on my shyte?

I just wanted to let you know how my crows and I have been doing. Don't know if I mentioned before, but they're also one of my spirit animals. The other day, my crows left me the most precious gift EVER! So unexpected. Here's why it's so precious to me. Remember how I mentioned them leaving me their feathers? I have read that they like to collect things too. And that crows have been known to also gift something very important to them. I kinda figured their feathers would be considered something if great importance to them yanno. I still believe this. Anywho... After the passing of my mother 2 days before my birthday back in 2010, a very subtle soft rain came down. The Sun was still trying to peek through just enough. We were all on my sister's porch during this time. But after the rain passed, these small butterflies (white ones and blue, and blue was her favorite color) started showing up everywhere! We went to town and they were there as well! So we chalked this up as a message from her. Something positive. That maybe she was giving us a message of love or that she was still with us. Here the other day, after taking our pup outside to bathroom, I continue the daily routine of feeding my crow friends. And I noticed that they left me a small little yellow butterfly. Not a real one, but a trinket kinda thing with white edges on its wings. Slowly I picked it up, and thanked them. This brought tears to my eyes for obvious reasons. And leads me to wonder if somehow they know! Was this also a message from my mom? Idk, I hope I'm not reading too much into that. I do not believe in coinky dinks. But I do know that yellow represents friendship. So perhaps that part is a message from them. Making our friendship official? Idk. We are getting closer a little at a time.

I record crows in my area. I was in another area 45 minutes away from my place , the other side of a Bay. I heard a crow and I was wondering if it sounded like my crows. It did but the timing of the call was different. Then I realized that the crow was talking to a barking dog. The dog was responding like what I'm used to hearing from cows. This was on an Indian reserve in New Brunswick Canada. The dog was in a backyard, I couldn't see it, but I could see the crow up at the top of a tree. I should have recorded it. What a special thing to hear.

My mother told me this story about her pet crow. She found it in the yard when she was just a little girl. The crow was just a little tike that was injured from falling from a tree. My mother nursed it back to health and they became friends. When she started going to school in the first grade, the crow followed her to school as she walked there. She said it would wait for her all day to come back outside the school building. Sometimes it would fly through an open window and land on a student's desk, often taking a pencil or something small it found on the desk, and flying out the window again. During recess one day when the children were outside, the crow flew from a tree it was perched on and landed on the ground at my mothers feet. My mother then described how "some mean boys" ran up to the crow, kicked it over and smashed its head in, then they laughed about it in my mother's face. I just wanted to tell the world about this story of my mother's pet crow. This was in 1940, when my mother was six years old.

I had a little apparatus that mimicked various chicken sounds. I used it frequently out on the tennis courts to entertain myself and the kids. There were a lot of different kinds of birds around including the red-tailed hawk and crows to name a couple. The crows seemed to badger the hawk a bit but they were cool except for that. I liked them and the hawk. Well, one day a crow landed on the spot where the hawk usually perched and he(?) spread out one wing in front of his body like a cape and made one of the chicken sounds that my apparatus had. He did it enough to make it clear what he was on about. I am quite sure the crow was having fun with me but I had no idea they could imitate the sound so perfectly and with such humor. I knew then that I would have a healthy lifelong relationship with crows in some form. I am at a new location and the crows are around. It's only the beginning... I feel like Odin.

I feel so special when my crows see me returning home in my car. They swoop down the street and land in the tree above where I park my car. Sometimes when I leave they land on the car hood until the car starts to move.

There are a few places which I frequent, and I always put out a handful of peanuts, or mixed nuts. I know they recognize my vehicle, because one particularly hot day I parked in a shady spot at the opposite end of the parking lot.. and one of the crows started flying past my window while letting out a call, as if to say, “we see you here.” They’re very smart. One day when I arrived, two were foraging very near to where I pulled up and parked. I “spoke” to them as I got out to deposit their treat, and they didn’t take off as they might ordinarily do (crows are very skittish). Two seagulls were also nearby, and they approached me directly. I knew they would hog whatever they saw me put down, not allowing the crows to have any. So I threw a handful across the parking lot, and while the seagulls chased after those.. placed a handful in the usual spot on the curb for the crows. The crows instantly understood the game, and not only did they not go directly to the peanuts (revealing their location).. but they waited patiently until the seagulls had eaten the nuts tossed for them, and then returned to stare at me for more.. then the crows took turns.. one would go land where I had tossed the distraction and PRETEND to be eating/finding nuts, and as the seagulls rushed back to see what the might have missed.. the other crow would retrieve a nut or two. Then they would switch roles.

I've got two crow calls and they don't sound as good as your natural voice...bad on me...I've tried to categorize their calls...and mimic them...1 caw...2 caws...3 caws...other combinations...haven't figured it out, yet.If nothing else, you are entertaining as...well...real good!

I can't believe that sound came out of that sweet little face! Lol! That's pretty good! I work outside all day at a podium at a hospital as a Concierge and part Valet and I see and hear crows on a daily basis. My interest is trying to identify the different sounds and what they mean. And I'm not lying, last year there was a crow making sounds like he was trying to sound out syllables. It was the craziest thing. I don't hear that any more. Like your video.

Awesome, I learned how to speak "raven" when we had some in my old town. Now, we have crows, I need to speak more to them in their crowspeak! thank you for this! I love the "guwonk guwonk" noise they make during the spring. they also make a "CHuff!" noise, when we're feeding them peanuts. And the rapid clicks. Corvids are wonderful.

Now on the 3rd day of doing this one of them was perched on the pole that is right in front of where I park my car. I tossed a new batch of peanuts onto the landscape island where they can get them safely. It is fun.

I had a conversation with a couple of crows in the woods last week. Have no idea what we were saying, but we spoke for about 10 minutes. They called, I repeated. They'd call back, I'd repeat. Then I'd call and they'd repeat. It was fun.. hope to run into them again. I'll pick up some peanuts for them next time I'm out. :)

This is the video I had been looking for. Since crows are so very intelligent, I suppose there are rather complex things they are capable of communicating amongst one another. I wonder to which extend I‘ll be able to learn about that. So far, all I can do is recognize their fear when I give them peanuts - and the interest and attention they show when they see me (since they expect to maybe get a peanut). Also, I think the crows „politely“ make me aware of their presence so I‘ll feed them. 😄

In my examinations of crow song, I have discovered that the gaps between caws are just as important as the caws themselves. [short caw, short pause, short caw, short pause, short caw] seems to mean "Beware!" On the other hand... [short caw, long pause, short caw, long pause, short caw] seems to mean "Come look." The pauses may indicate a severity level of a basic caw pattern. Or they provide some other context. Or both. The crow version of inflection perhaps. I have also noticed regular, almost universal call patterns irrespective of family group. For example... [long caw, long pause, short caw, short pause, short caw] seems to be a greeting meant specifically for humans, or a recognition of them. I have never witnessed them sing it to each other.

I started tossing the odd bit of dog-kibble to nearby crows when dog walking. now there are a couple (in 2 different parks) that will come right over whenever they see me playing with my collie and follow us across the park. If i tell the dog to lie down and stay and drop some treats behind him (tricky part is not letting the dog notice), one crow will walk right up to his tail to pick them up - so long as I back away about 5 metres. He seems a lot more confident about approaching the dog than approaching the human that brings the food. That shows great wisdom i think :) When the treats are gone he sometimes pecks the dog' s tail a couple of times- but not hard enough to bother him much. Does he want him out of the way to check for crumbs at the other end? or is it just playful curiosity? Usually there's a smaller crow hanging back and watching. I'm assuming they're a pair and that's the female? She's not so bold and only gets a treat if I throw them in two directions at the same time, otherwise he always gets there first. I wouldn't say my dog was laid-back generally, but pigeons , crows, ducks etc don't excite him - he can walk though a flock of town pigeons, but a wren giving an alarm call in the hedge - that winds him up!
@PoeMovies

I'm having the hardest time with the rhythm of the calls. I can do an okay one at a regular rhythm, but if I want to do it more like actual crows, I can't get their rhythm right. It's like they syncopate it, but I can't breathe right to do that. Oh well. Once I get them to take peanuts from me, they won't care if I get the rhythm right. I did get them to fly around me in a massive orbit 3-4 times, 6+ of them. 3 (or more) of the most incredible moments of my life have involved birds, and this was one of them. No one seems to care when I tell the story. Guess I'm just a stoner! If someone had told me, I'd think they were making it up. But it happened to me! They orbited me, my driveway, my whole yard, front and back, slowly and deliberately, as if trying to make friends or figure me out. They were idle at the time, which is maybe part of the secret. Now whenever I see a crow, it's busy with other birds and doesn't have time to chat!

@@PoeMovies I can't stop thinking about this one crow that rammed into my glass door at my old place. It woke me up from sleep. It broke it's leg off by the impact, I pet it a little, and it became scared and fluttered off balance, rounding my house, but nailed the corner of my house. I saw it in all these vines, very hard to reach. I figured I would let it rest back there, and a few hours later it slipped my mind, I let my cat out and the cat got it and I saw him carrying the crow across the yard. The cat was proud, but I still think aboiut how I could've helped that bird. It kind of hurts still for some reason😔 I think about it alot

@@ColinPierce don't give it too much thought. You had a direct view of the cycle of life for a brief moment. That kind of thing happens without you knowing every day all around the globe.
