I mean the Hunters Leader is literally whoever kills Cayde. That was the Hunters Gambit Cayde set out and it worked. Uldren died and became Crow and took over the Hunters.
I honestly called it. Cayde doesn't know who Crow is, so obviously he would shoot Uldren. I was hoping for Cayde to kill Crow, only for Crow to coming back freaking Cayde out. But this is nice.
You know, the jab of "I dont have to call you prince anymore, do I?" By Cayde is great, but they could have added a little response from Crow there: They both stand up and beheld whatever pulse of light comes from the Witness tower in the distance. Crow nudges Cayde for his attention and says, "Mara is doing fine, by the way."

based on Crow's backstory, Guardians seem to lose the memories of their past lives when they are reborn. the person, personality, and consciousness known as Uldren is dead and Crow is someone new; he may be in the same skin, but he's not the same person.
It's not even just the backstory for Crow. Every Guardian loses their memories and is reborn as a new person when their Ghost chooses them. It's something that has been known for a while. Heck, it's a pretty major rule of thumb to not look into who you were before becoming a Guardian.
