I would not put this plan past the crow: I think the crow was trying to wear the rat down first so that he can fly it hanging from his tail to drop him and kill him. Crows are super smart.
Rats are too small to die from falling. Their terminal velocity and mass can't generate the kinetic energy required to do severe damage. Edit: I stand corrected. Apparently rats have poor aerodynamics and larger ones can in fact die from a significant enough fall. Mice should survive, and squirrels survive any fall as well. My error was assuming that since a rat was in between a mouse and squirrel in terms of size, it would enjoy the same benefits. I wasn't giving the squirrel's big bushy tail and ability to spread out and flatten its body enough credit for increasing drag and dampening the fall.
It's interesting (and saddening) that there seems to be an intrinsic link in the animal world between intelligence and a capacity for cruelty. Corvids, chimps, humans etc are all examples
@@codenamenel No, crows are too intelligent and have seen way too many rats to be confused by a tail. He was messing with the rat for fun. They do it to cats all the time.
@ yep. Dogs/wolves/hyenas etc. do the exact same thing. Attack when they run. Stop and wait when they turn. Effortlessly drain them of energy, then feast.
That's the comment I'd expect from one that watches too many hokey pokey videos. Crows not only eat dead animals but they kill small animals to feed on. Rabbits have become a food source for the crows , the kits don't have a chance unless the Doe is close by and fights the Crow off. I'm sick of the crows where I live, time to drag the long rifle out and balance nature out.
Crows are about as intelligent as a 7 year old kid. They're amazing. Note how the crow went for the rat's tail because the crow knew there was no teeth on that end of the rat.
Two generalist omnivores, one armed with amazing intelligence, wings, superior size and a powerful beak who tries to hunt the other one that while smaller, has superior weaponry and decent intelligence. The predator knows that, so it tries to tire it’s prey down by grabbing it’s weak spot, but the prey ferociously fights back. At the end, the prey finds an escape rout, and utilizes it, which results in both of them living another day.
Rats are highly intelligent. If the bird didnt have wings...this would have been a different result. I have seen rats take down birds. They are great hunters in their own right. Birds are on their diet.
@@jennifermorley9836 they're intelligent but they don't come close to crows, who by most studies are as smart as a seven year old. + the rat has superior "weaponry" but crows can use tools. tools is also what places humans at the top of the food chain
Always, rats are nasty. That's why I love the Mink man. It's amazing how quickly you get sucked into videos of this guy and his minks (and dogs) slaughtering a ton of rats
Crows are very intelligent. Had this been a mouse, the crow would have either scooped it up in its claws or pecked it to death. A rat requires a different strategy because it's too big to carry with his claws and the crow already knows just how formidable the rat's teeth are. The crow was simply trying to wear the rat down so he could then start using his beak as a spear to peck it to death; first take out the eyes to blind it and well, then the rest...
One time I looked out back, and my cat had a rat cornered. The rat tried to be aggressive and jump at it like this one jumped at the crow. My cat wasn't impressed, and I swear he jumped like 4 or 5 feet straight up into the air and came down with all four paws on the rat's back, I'm sure breaking it, because the rat didn't move any more after that. Gotta love a good "Wild Kingdom" moment.
There are a lot of rabbits near my apartment. So many that you can't go 20 feet down the sidewalk without seeing one sitting off to the side. My dog is half dutch shepherd, half whippet. Walking her sucks because she keeps trying to lunge off the sidewalk and create Animal Kingdom moments. 🙄
@@pablobaneroe6486 I live in Australia and saw this in Brisbane. The crow had a young brown snake by the tail every time the snake turned around to try and bite him he would let him go as it tried to get away the crow would grab it again. I watched this for some time eventually the snake was so tired the snake the crow killed it and ate it. True story.
Crows have some real power in their beak attacks. Trust me I know. Some years ago I was hunting rabbits and found one on the floor unable to move. I picked it up and the sun hit its feathers and the colours were fantastic. I was mesmerised , until the crow launched itself at my face. It pecked millimetres from my eye. I felt like I'd been punched in the face. It was definitely going for my eyes.
The last scene when he disappeared in the only imperfection of the ground accessorie installed by humans... 😅 Like when you see that hole, you KNOW that there is a rodent that has been thru it and probably still here ready to scare you 😂
It wasn't exciting to watch but he did fight very intelligently, do what you need to do and avoid what you need to avoid. Then pick up the money and go home.
@@Sunrise-fr9jb Umm no it is the opposite. Size does not affect velocity but larger objects tend to have more drag.. Hawks drop rodents to kill them and make it easier to eat all the time.
When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️
He finally figured out that he needed to keep his back to the drain as much as possible but the crow was still able to dart in close and grab his tail. The crow had a hight advantage that was helping him because I would bet they weigh almost the same. He looked beat up like you said and despaired towards the end. We are led to believe he got away
Crows are so underrated, they’re one of natures smartest animals. They way that bird wore out that tough brave rat with cunning defensive tactics was awesome.
What do you mean underrated.. Who thinks that .. Why did you say that, they're very intelligent., Everyone knows that I think you've only just found out how smart they are ...LOL...
That tail grabbing is similar to a jab ,hes wearing the rat out ,the crows movement is like Alis dancing.....I say the crow wins by knockout by round 4🤪
