The audience said they were surprised when Westlife, all in their 40s, sang and danced like they did in their twenties at the concert on the evening of June 4 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
While many once-famous boy bands are considered to be in decline, Westlife's performances still satisfy the audience both aurally and visually. At the age of 45, lead singer Shane Filan was praised by fans for "the sweeter he sings". The group invests in costumes and changes after about three to four lessons. When singing Beautiful In White, they wore suits and bow ties, recreating the image of a groom, making female fans continuously cheer: "So handsome."
The group sang 27 songs, from profound, lyrical to vibrant. Even though they did not perform with a live band and lacked member Mark Feehily, they still easily stirred up the atmosphere and sublimated through many electronic compositions. Compared to The Wild Dreams concert in Ho Chi Minh City last year, the group sang seven more songs, and the music was more "burning".
The group's audience is still mainly from the 8x and 9x generations, listening to Westlife's music since their teens. When the melody I Lay My Love On You, Flying Without Wings, More Than Words rang out, about 8,000 people simultaneously sang along. In the second half of the show, the group pushed the atmosphere to a climax through songs like Uptown Girl, Bob Bob Baby. Being a boyband with many famous cover songs, on this occasion, Westlife showed off their forte by singing Queen's We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions. The audience stood up, clapped to the beat, and sang with the group.
After performing three times in Vietnam, they opened up to chat, interact more, and pamper their fans more. Nicky Byrne scored points in the leading parts, making the audience laugh. He spent time reading the text on the banners brought by the audience, smiling when a fan wrote: "Nicky, I like you but love Brian." He invited a female fan named Hoa, 40 years old, to come on stage and hug her after reading the words: "I've been waiting for 25 years to get a hug from you Westlife". from you guys, Westlife).
When singing Seasons In The Sun, they changed the lyrics from "Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me" to "Goodbye, Hanoi, please pray for me". Vietnamese fans are happy because they are immersed in the melodies of a dreamy time. Most viewers come in pairs or large groups, wholeheartedly cheering for their idols. The entire audience at the Athletics Palace was assigned seats, but after part two of the show, they all stood up to sing and cheer. Therefore, the concert atmosphere is as exciting as outdoor concerts.
