Melbourne University Computering and IT Lecturer Suelette Dreyfus says the CrowdStrike outage serves as a “wake up call” to Australians.
“We are pretty dependent on these types of security software that exist mostly in larger organisations,” she told Sky News Australia
“But most of us have never heard of these brands.”

If a major company like Crowdstrike have over 29,0000 of customers worldwide who use their platform and they need updates to computer software..as one IT specialist said…surely they should test the software update first to make sure they do not have a bug in the first place…then release the update in slow increments instead of in one hit..that way it will be less impact globally. ..

Every computer system and network is different. They can't test for every system variation. Unfortunate problem with the current computing and tech paradigm that cannot be avoided without creating a new system from scratch.

@@axle.studentTry telling that to the Professor of technology from Harvard University who has done several interviews relating to this..or are you another would be know all too…and let’s not forget..”Computer Says NO”

@@CatsandJP It's just a simple statement from knowledge and experience. Every system is different and you can't predict everything in testing. But that aside I just learned that they pushed out a zero filled system file with the update. So no one checked the integrity of the file before sending it out. Someone has just become -unemployed- unemployable.
@nirajshrestha5621
@nirajshrestha5621 Месяц назад
Definitely, they should be testing the update on some of their test computers first. That is a basic/ standard test plan, procedure Seriously, what kind of people are working in crowdstrike who don't even have a basic test plan. That's a bare minimum test one should be doing before rolling it out. These companies in usa have a habit of cutting costs taking corners, shortcuts and have no regard to safety, security whatsoever this includes boeing, crowdstrike, microsoft and so on. And these usa companies have immunity just because they are companies of usa.

Hmmm testing things first before releasing it....🤔 Sounds like common sense doesn't it!? Now if i could just remember where ive heard that being labelled as 'safe and effective' before it was tested and released to millions id be able to make the connection! 🥴

The problem is vendor lock-in. It is not the first time that MS Windows was in the news because of whatever. This is global, it is not some stupid thing. Airports, hospitals closed. I really hope that the guys in charge learn from this (but I don't think so, because of vendor lock-in).
