Cool video. I bought a D150A amp and IC150 preamp new in 1978 when I was in Germany serving in the US Army. After 44 years and 20+ household moves, I took my still functioning gear to PROTech in MD for its first service, $360 and one month later I got my gear back, hooked it up and turned it on and it performed like new….basically replaced 7 caps and cleaned up the boards and controls. Amazing! I’ve got a pair of MC30 Mac mono blocks from 1954 and new MC152 and C49, all great gear, but my Crown kit is still like my first true love. Thanks all you folks in Elkhart, IN.
Happy to see you folks rolling on. Loved working there years ago on your legacy amps and NMR amps. Nice that you and Harman on making great advances. I recall one rainy evening driving from Elkhart to South Bend to attend classes stopping by the side of the to help a stranded driver with his car, one of those moments I recall being able to help a great engineer, Mr. Gerald Stanley.
The first Crown electronics had the statement: “By all means today for souls tomorrow.” The first Crown products I saw was at a Lutheran Broadcasting Radio Station in Ethiopia during the 1960’s. I was stationed at Kagnew Station in Asmara Eritrea. Great products at the time. The new products bear no relation to the old ethic that drove the company.
This is by far the BEST amplifier company ever. Alongside Phase Linear (Out of business) Phase linear went out because they made their amps too good. The best crowns are still the Macro and Micro. All the amps they make now is digital garbage. Cant beat those old "Top Hat" transistors man. I once seen 5x 5000vz's in full action. I couldn't believe my eyes or ears. That was one hell of a block party in Brooklyn. Those amps need strickly speakers like Celestion or RCF. Anything else is bobbysox. But Crown still and always will be my favorite amplifier maker.
Back in the '70's, the Phase Linear amps were called "Flame Linear" because they kept bursting into flames, especially the "400." There are reasons Phase Linear went belly up, and Crown didn't.
@@EvolveVoIP Well, i was mostly talking about bass, not "sound quality" per say. The DC 300 was the same exact type of amp i'm talking about. The DC 300 had 2 huge capacitors in the back and also used the same Top Hat transistors i was previously talking about. Those transistors are not used so much anymore because the were expensive to make. Nowadays they're using silicon transistors, and mosfet junk. But nothing will ever beat the top hats or tubes when it came to warmth and hard hitting bass. Phase linear was good only because the company couldn't afford the top hats so instead they overdosed on the silicon transistors. So to match a Crown who used 12 top hats, phase linear would then use 24 silicon just to keep up. The only problem was that silicon transistors get hot really fast. So if you don't have proper ventilation your amp might blow on you. Crown amps forever baby !
Alexandre Messier we had a bgw 750 bought a brand new from Warehouse sound in San Luis Obispo the first day we plugged it into our system after about 45 seconds it look like Hiroshima with a big cloud we had to box it up and send it back to California they fixed it we got it back it's smoked again after a couple of days and then we bought two crown dc300.....
The 750 is a wonderful amp, as was the Peavy CS800, which if I remember correctly was designed for Peavy by engineers at BGW. Both had the modular amp cards, which made for fast field servicing. Great designs.
I wish yall would bring back your old school stuff, like the dc series.... i wish yall would re release them made exactly the way you used to. Id buy the d75 brand spanken new if that was possible. Re release the dc 300, PLEASE. I miss those heavy beasts with brushed aluminum faceplates.
The only amp on the market I would have taken over a Crown back in the 70's was a Mac. The problem with Macs were that you cold by 2 Crowns for the price of 1 Mac. It almost sounds like the other macs. I can buy 2-3 state of the art Windows Laptop for the price of the bottom of the line Macbook. However i would still by a Mac amp over a mac computer. LOL
Good enough for back stage . not enough good looks to have at home , that is why i like Accuphase , Luxman , Macintosh , love those champagne , silver and black colors with nice greenish VU´s , a new model for home use would be nice , something to adorn your listening room with great design , looks and most of all quality sound , sort of like Toyota did when they introduced Lexus .
