This is more along the lines of what I thought I was going to sit down and do. I had made a hoop with evenly spaced alpine butterfly knots... and that's when my inspiration seemed to surpass my intellect lol. If you plan to make a large one (30'x 12') with a large grid (3'x3' maybe) I'm picturing laying it out on the ground. Using stakes or something around the perimeter each point where the rope would hit the outside edge and turn to go back the other direction. So other than the math to figure out the best division of a 30x12 space is AND the shrinkage that each knot will make on the length and width, I think it goes like this, one rope is laid down back and forth for the width without crossing it's self. The second rope would be laid down over the first, back and forth, on top of the first, also without crossing it's self. I think I would use stakes along the edge, 3 foot apart in this case. I'm describing a square turn around for now so the rope would turn left at the first stake and left again at the next stake 3 foot on, making a square turn-around to go back the direction it came from. Then at the end run a perimeter rope in and out of the outer edge, of the outer squares, pulling them into a square with one pointed outside edge, I think. Then I think you could secure to that free floating outer rope anywhere and it should distribute the stress to all the squares around it, right? I really need this to work the first time as I'm essentially homeless, living in a rotting RV. Every dime I get goes to more tarps to cover the roof. This might take care of things until the roof totally falls in. I think I have 2 or 3 years IF I can keep it dry. I live in an EXTREMELY windy place, but I'm stuck here, stuck in this situation, and stuck in this cycle of fixing something that should be burned to the ground. I have a lot of spring time storms to get through here in tornado alley. I think I'll try a cargo net to hold the tarps down from the outside instead of attaching to the tarp. Does this layout method sound like how you're supposed to do it? I'm terrible with knots so this will be a tangled, aggravating challenge lol...but, a lot of things are like that.

I’m very interested in learning how to complete a rectangular cargo net for covering my loads to the dump. Since the video showed the first steps, you said there was a video in the description that showed beginning to end. Sadly, I was unable to find that video and was hoping you could direct me to it. Since I’ve never attempted such a project, obviously I need the complete training video as well as the length of netting I would need to purchase for a net covering the bed of my Tacoma long bed truck. In addition, I don’t have a clue how to finish the net off nor what hardware I’d need to tie it down securely. Also, what is the name of the material you use to construct the net? As you can see, I am a beginner, and I need a lot of help and direction. Thank you.

I'm not finding much under "crown knot" except for the decorative end of rope knot. I'd be curious to hear any comparison of this to the carrick bend in usage. I like that this knot keeps the down lines down and the cross lines horizontal. Is it as strong? Slip? Weakens rope more, etc... ?

This is very easy looking. I was a bit surprised, looking at the knot initially I would've guessed that the way you put this together is by making a vertical loop and then putting the other rope through that loop to form the same vertical loop in the other direction, just that the loops interlock. Do you not want to mirror the next loop to create straight lines instead of slightly angled due to always going to one side on the loops? Or does it not matter?

Very nice. I've been wanting to get a good cargo net for my dump trailer. The bed size is 6' wide by 12' long. I can buy enough para cord for way less than half the cost of a comparable store bought net. It'll give me something to do rather than watch tv all evening in the winter. Those $25.00 bungee cord nets don't inspire me with a lot of confidence, and the heavier nets that I would prefer are in the $300 dollar range so maybe I'll try making my own. I just used this to make a cargo net for the back of my Forester. I used 750# mil-spec paracord, so I'm absolutely certain the anchor points will rip out of the back of the vehicle long before the net fails!

Nice video. :) Second knot. Wouldn't it be better, if you went on the LEFT side of the downwards yellow string? Because first knot goes: yellow string down in the left side and further down in right side of knot. The second knot should go flipped. Otherwise you end up, getting a scewed net... won't you? :)

This explains the knot itself very well. I don’t see how it relates to the whole net, when it’s more than two squares high.

Nice knot. You are the only guy teaching knots who makes a lot of unnecessary moves making the knots harder to learn. Do you have a video on how to tie your shoes?

I have an 8'x10' dump wagon that I use quite often. When I haul brush and the sort, the load must be covered in the county that I live in, obviously to prevent debris from littering the road, and creating a hazard from potential flying material on the roadway. I have priced some cargo nets, and the ones I looked at, that are big enough to cover the load's height, plus the length and width of my trailer are pretty pricey. I purchased two 100' rolls of 3/8" braided polyester rope to make my own cargo net. Your video is very helpful in tying the knots. I take it that you start in a corner, and work your way towards the other corners? I am thinking that when you get to the width you want, you turn the loops back the other way? Am I thinking correctly? Great video and thanks again.
