Those 6 minutes from halfway through the 2nd period up until Reinhart's goal was some of the best hockey to watch. Both teams with close calls, long periods of offensive time, and tired players emptying their tanks. For me, that's the beauty of the game.
Michkov coming over to the flyers and oilers losing the cup and being eliminated is the best news ever for me. Love to see it. Barkov absolutely shut down drai & McDavid (besides the 2 games) is unbelievable. Bob went through adversity and came back huge in game 7. Thought Barkov should’ve won conn smythe he was incredible throughout the playoffs, McDavid was historical but not historic. Happy for the Cats. Florida were the better team and deserved it. Congrats.
Speaking of Maurice, the director at Sportsnet was focusing on Elliotte and Dave’s interview and missed the moment when the cup was handed to Maurice. Big cheers from the crowd of course. Luckily other channels’ coverages are more diligent so that moment was not lost.
Gotta give Panthers credit They played a great game and with the Exception of Ekholm Janmark and Henrique, They just wanted it more. The fear and desperation of Losing the cup again and having the biggest collapse in sports history was more motivation that just wanting to win for a bunch of guys on their first trip to the cup. You could see in the oiler Vets that had been on the losing side of a cup before how much more they wanted it, or didn't want that feeling again. Now the rest of the oilers have that too. None the less so proud of the entire team for all the did this year to will themselves forward and out of holes. Tremendous character in that room.

I do. Bobrovsky and Barkov were better. Its not about save percentage or point tallies in blowouts, or Canadian media hype, its about being valuable to your team in the crucial moments and games. McDavid got the Connsolation Smythe.

If what player x does in games 4, 5, and 6 is that much better than what player y did in the other games, then yes. Don't even disagree that it could've gone to bob, but I don't see it as illogical.
Conn Smythe - based on totality of the playoffs not on the last couple games where McDavid didn't have it. And yet you said the trophy was Bob's up until games 4,5,6 and then he had a great game 7. The totality of the playoffs show Bob was pretty darn good, including the final game to win it. I didn't have a team so I don't really care but I think it was Bob's.
Bob wasn't anything special in rounds 1-3. Florida's team game was what saw them advance, they could have won the first 3 rounds with David Ayres in net.
In the "totality of the playoffs" Bob was a .906. Many, many goalies have done that or better. Not so many players have put up 42 points. I really don't see why this is so difficult.

What exactly is the "president cup"? If you mean the President's Trophy, that was won by the Rangers. Bobrovsky was inconsistent and .906 in the playoffs which is mediocre at best. McDavid had the most playoff points in 33 years. Florida is a deeper, more balanced, and better defensive team than Edmonton but you cannot tell me they have a player they wouldn't trade 1-for-1 for McDavid in terms of value this playoffs or otherwise.

I have been advocating for Tocchet in the HoF for years. Close to 1,000 point but in this era 3,000 PIM meant something . It helped his more skilled teammates; such as, Grezky and Lemieux have room to make plays. While there...we have both Neely and Bure in the Hall after haveing there careers were cut short by injuries. Why not Tim Kerr? The numbers are the same. I always thought it was how many not how or how pretty in Bure's case.

McDavid shouldn't have won the Conn Smythe. If you argue "it's the totality of the playoffs" then you have to recognize McDavid was not great over the course of the seven games in the Finals. Bob was basically lights out the entire playoffs until Games 4, 5, and 6 of the Finals. Bob had three bad games, McDavid had four. That's why Florida won in the end.
I watched every minute of Florida's run, Bob was good but he only stole one game in the whole run. Whereas Edmonton doesn't win a round without McDavid.
McDavid scored 11 points and was +7 while playing through an abdominal injury in the SCF but "wasn't that great" yeah okay. No one else had more than 7 points. Florida won because it's a team game. Bob's .906 in this playoffs was mediocre.

I didn’t like McDavid as the Conn Smythe winner. Yes he had an incredible points total, but points in only 2 out of 7 SCF games? Bobrovsky was at least good in 4 of the 7 games plus the rest of the playoffs
I agree! McDavid was held pointless in a lot of games during these playoffs... the reason he got so many points was because they had a few blow out games, which in reality is just a few wins towards his team. Bobrovski stole a few games in these playoffs which cancels out McDavids big point games.

I see why mcdavid would win. People see the total through and watching Edmonton throughout the entire playoffs, McDavid has alot of garbage time points when the games were already over. Draisaitl and Hyman were very clutch for Oilers right throughout.

The games aren't "consistently" fixed by dictate, but I think they're influenced by the league, the coaches, and the refs. As for Canadian teams, they're not as skilled as the US teams. They have lost the advantage they once had. Believe what you will, doesn't matter to me. I think this series was influenced, that's all.

What you dont see is, that #97 and #29 have had no benefit and it would have been a better game, if all players would have been equally stressed by a back to back rhythm. You see the point? There's a reason that out of 17 Conn Smythe voters 16 had McDavid as their first choice and 0 had Barkov. McDavid was a +7 in the final and Barkov was a -1. McDavid was a +12 in the playoffs and Barkov was a -1. The Panthers are a deeper team with better team defense but individually they don't have any one near as valuable as McDavid.

I know, I know the totality, So lets look at the totality of BOB entire playoff run he was avg 2.23 GA until game 5 of the finals vs top scoring teams like TB, BOS, NYR & Edmonton. We need to appreciate more how hard is it to play the position of goal tending. BOB was the last line of defense while McDavid always had the Luxury of a Leon assist to him or a Hayman assist to him. Bob also had a great defense working in front of him. Did you not watch last night's game? That was a textbook clinic in shot blocking. It was clear that before the game the Panthers thought "win or lose, this is the last game of the season so if we get hurt blocking shots tonight we got the summer to recover". There were so many times in the third that Bob was completely out of position but the Oilers still couldn't score because a Florida player just threw his entire body in the way. I'm a huge Bob fan but the only game he stole in this series was game one when the defense played bad in front of him and he had to bail them out.

Thanks for talking about Winnipeg and Mcgorerty. Heard he was also injured last year which played into Winnipeg saying he wasnt ready for NHL yet. I agree that they likely will focus on top player building to continue their playoff run and not as much on newer players unless they are coming in hot. Just my thoughts. 🤔✈️
