Crown XTI 4002 vs Alpine Type R 12" Subwoofers 

Thanks for the demo. I have a similar setup. Using One XLS 1000 Bridge on 2 Alpine Type S 15's. I was wanting to upgrade to XTi2 2002 On four Alpine Type S 15's. I know Car Subs Aren't ideal for PA But this is for home use only and I'm willing to trade subwoofer efficiency for the low end I get from car subs. I can go down to 26 Hz in an inexpensive PA Cabinet.

Great combo bro. 👍We need more combination videos like this (PA power amps paired to car subs), and I tried this with my RF 12" DVC subs paired to a Peavey IPR DSP 3000 and it shook my whole garage. I might look into upgrading the subs to my home theater system with this setup. 👍

The XTI series does sub duty just fine my buddy uses and XTI 4000 for two JBL passive 518's and they rock!! I bought two EON 618 S active subs myself and they rock with their built in amps ;-) Those are both 18" subs so 12's should not be a problem.

I am amazed these speakers did not melt. The XTI series (Class AB) amps are awesome for sub signals. Much better low response than D class in my view. Can push with much less bass input. My class D amp requires the bass end of the EQ to pushed way (1/2 to 3/4 slide) up compared to 1/4 up with the Crown pushing the subs. I do not like the SUB-SYNTH mode however, way too low, not a great sound for my 15" cabinets. Bridged subs mode with channel 1 + channel 2 using both individual outputs seems to hit the sweet spot. I now have a "pop" in one of the Soundtech STS 15" 600W subs I have used for a long time. The XTI 2002 is responsible for shaking the dust out of them. Very pleased.

People who say these aren't good for subs are ignorant, these babies have a damping factor of 500 which as you know and have heard translates into very tight and precise bass.. Ill say that the power ratings are slightly inflated being rated at 1khz, but they are close enough that it simply doesn't matter "for the most part". Now in terms of overall longevity, these crown amps are reliable and powerful amplifiers, you'll have that amp for 20 years or more, their hiqnet software connectivity via usb port only makes these babies that much better, all the dsp room correction it offers is only the tip of the ice burg, you can set limiters and all that within the hiqnet software, crowns xls series is a great as well, even their top of the line macrotech i series is simply fantastic, its like the xti series on steroids, crown is the king of class d amplification, especially after partnering with texas instruments to design their drive core chips, nobody can top them in the class d game, though ill say that while their class d stuff is some of the best on the planet, their class ab amplifiers have much to be desired and are very lacking compared to their older class ab designs, especially when compared to qsc's class ab and h rmx/ rmxa amplifiers, still though, these amps are incredible, I'd never bother with behringer though, built horrible, and certainly won't sound like a crown or a qsc...

It's okay for driving subwoofers, but the I-Tech amps have even better driver control and more power. The XTi6002 is like a poor-man's I-Tech. The I-Techs are switch mode power amps, and the XTi/XTi2 series amps are class-AB but with rail switching and switch mode power supplies. At idle they don't make much heat but when they are driving subs in a live sound application the fans will occasionally come on and then go off. The Class-AB design has a bit higher output impedance (which is what causes them to have a little less woofer control) and they make more heat but they also have a "warmer" sound than the switch mode amplifiers like the I-Techs. I like my XTi4002s.

Hi could you please explain the connectivity between XLR and RCA? Did you solder them? Or bought them? Is there any hum noise in the line?

Could you please explain how you wired the Crown amp to your receiver? I read your used XLR to RCA cable to connect the receiver to the Crown amp. Will any XLR to RCA cable work for this or does it need to be unbalanced or balanced? What brand of cable are you using here? What RCA port did you use on the back of your receiver it looks like the CD port? Lastly, how did get the sound to play off your computer?

This crown xti have a dsp for subwofer passiv?

my problem is, how do you use just one channel to drive subs and another channel for main speakers. the xlr input plugs on my crown xti 2002 are 3 wire so i cant send a stereo signal to both channel a and b. ive been stuck on this for months

I have a Crown XLI1500 pushing two first gen Fosgate HX2s 10inch. Crown amps rock!

I’m so confused I been wanting to get a crown amp for my orion hccas they dual 2 ohm each which makes a 2 ohm load together or 4 ohm each sub ... but I’ve never got a crown amp because I would need mono sound right? But I see here you don’t have mono so how are your sub reacting to those notes like a real car audio sub does in car with a monoblock?

Still have this Amp? If so how has it been for you? Did you continue to use it heavily like this? Also, please check out audio science review and their electrical measurements of this amplifier.

Try closed box, bass reflex don't have good impuls.

i would think it would drive them even harder then that. you must not have it full tilt. that gotta be double rms/sub.
