Crown XTi Amplifiers & System Architect 

Still using my xti4000 and xti1000 never had one issue in the 10 years I’ve had them. Great amps.

It’s now 2022 and almost 2023. Look how all of her thoughts and experiences and equipment has changed. Cool video from back in the early 2000s very helpful. Nice to see that nowadays you’re enjoying your powered speakers and not lugging amplifiers around anymore And still doing a great job with lighter gear. I still hold onto one of these amps at my church start off in a closet just in case it might come in handy for something.

I for one know that these amps are outstanding. We own two Crown XTi 4000 amps and a Crown CE 2000 that we bought years ago that is still going strong. I give the XTi series amps a 10/10 rating!

I've used both Crown & QSC and always prefered Crown. Crown have been a part of my mobile rig since 1994 :)

Nice work on the vid, good explanation. Looks like you have more than enough power to drive a house. I'm a powered speaker guy, and hope to put together a handful of videos to explain my strategy. But I'll admit, seeing this video has me craving those amps. Nothing better than knowing you can carry the house without sweating...

There are 5 pre-sets on the amps you can change just by navigating the front pannel so yeah, no biggie to switch things over. Not only that, but you can also program 13 pre-sets yourself and save them

For input? What you can do is get a set of custom RCA to XLR cables. Either search for them on Ebay or check out your local gear shop to see if they do custom work. Basically, that takes things from balanced to unbalanced which I personally don't think is a great idea, but yeah you can do it.

This is something I got away from a few years ago. It's a learning curve for me ALWAYS, but I'm back to thinking practical :)

brian, I just picked up a Crown XTI 1000 amp. Haven't had a chance to check it out, because after I got it home, I realized I needed Speakon and XLR adapters. My old amp used 1/4 inch plugs.

Great job explaining great test skill and great energy just got ahold of a xti2000 I'm loving it for $250 new I'm siked.

Good upgrade the next amp purchase should be Lab Gruppens whenyou want to move up further.

I am still using passive speakers as well as powered speakers, it just depends on the gig. Larger events 400 or more I bring out the power amps, and crank up the the JBL SRX tops and Subs.

Really cool Brian. I love Crown amps along with Crest Audio amps, they are built solid - true workhorse.

If you put the wrong load on them, yeah they will get hot. If you run them with the speaker configs you're suppose to run them with, they stay pretty cool

If you are running mono, yeah. One channel could be highs & mids and another channel can be sub. However, as I demonstrated in the video, if you try to just run your subs & top cabs paralel, the internal passive crossovers of your speakers allow a LOT of bleeding of other signals

You said that you could run another set of speakers to get more power by taking them down to 4 ohms. However, you are doubling the speakers so at 4ohms and 800 watts, each of the four speakers will get 400 watts vs. 475 to each of two 8 ohm speakers. That info. is per a JBL technician that I spoke with this week.

The video on crown amplifiers was very go i love it when you show the different between why use crossover.I all wouder about that think for showing this video.

17 lbs is the weight. Price wise, it depends. The XTi 2000 can usually be had for between $600-$700 bucks where the 4000 is closer to $1,000

We also haven't talked about subs. My powered sub SAYS it weighs 75lbs. A JBL powered 118 weighs 89, so we're in less with 1 sub. Now, add ANOTHER passive sub. 150 + 17=167. 89+89=178

That's a good question, BTW. Someone a while back tried to tell me different. The spooky part was he was the head of the Pro Audio department at a big box retailer! Some people should stick to selling shoes....

Shop around. I got great pricing from Canal Hi Fi in NYC. Usually, you're looking at between $600-$700 for the 2000 and closer to 1K for the 4000

It depends on how you run them. If you run the speakers in series, you will then bring 2 8 ohm speakers per side to 16 ohms. You'd cut your power in half, though. It would be better to have less resistance to run them in paralel dipping the amp down to 4 ohms :) You almost double your power output

@mastermaybe Maybe not.. You would not add the resistances if in parallel. you would halve it. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 4 ohms. The rail voltage of the amp is fixed but the current it is capable of delivering is not. So the lower ohm load would pull twice the current and the amp would deliver twice the wattage. Also you would never connect the multiple speakers in series to a pro amp unless YOU are just confused or want to confuse others.

i remmember watching a video somewhere on here where they droped 1 of these a few times, and it still ran, but sometimes cliped out.

It's a matter of expanding cheaply too (which I didn't explain). Basically, if I REALLY wanted to, I could power 4 JBL JRX115's and at LEAST 2 of the metro subs with 34 LBS worth of amps :) As you know, good powered speakers are expensive. Whereas you CAN get decent passive speakers for around $400 a pair :)

i do like powered speakers because they are more convenient but i realized i do not want to use them for all my gigs. I use the mackie c 300 z passive, with peavey 2600 watt amp, and sound amazing for top end. If the powered speaker has any problem you screwed. If the speaker goes you have to send it back, and you cannot use the amp. If the amp goes you cannot use the speaker. Thats why I like passive much better.

I actually have banana plugs, but crown decided to put the banana plugs on the top of the speaker out. On the plugs I have, the cable kinda goes in from the side, at an angle, to the banana ends. Because crown put their holes so close to the amp back wall, they are too close for the cables to really fit. So, I just got 2 speakon adapters, and they work great.

Hey Brian, nice Video and the Amplifier looks good. Is something broken at your last Gig (in the Rain)?I hope not. You need a Flightcase for the CDJ 400 and your Mixer.I have a Zomo Flightcase and in my mind, it´s very good, because when you ride the Pitch, you have your Hands on the Player and not on the Case(the Player is higher than the Case,when it´s open. Here is the specs right off the box of the Crown 2000 xti. 475W per channel @ 8 ohms, 800W per channel @ 4 ohms, and 1000W at per channel @ 2 ohms. How is that for free lunch.

@P1001AT2 it depends on the impedance of the speakers 8ohms runs 650 watts while 4ohms runs at a higher wattage

Awesome, before I buy 4 of them I wanted to see what they looked like..over here in PA the music stores stink they don't have anything, I can't wait till the AC DJ Show to get them, im antsy lol. Oh by the way, that mixmeister is like my new favorite tool.. I used to use PCDJ and or BPM by alcatech... mixmeister is so much better! Just wish Vista was compatable with multiple sound drivers... :(

i like that i dont have more than one cord to each speaker with passive speakers. u can double ur top end and u can also double your bottom end by running 2 pairs of 2 subs that are connected in a series. this will create a 16 ohm load (assuming ur subs are 8 ohms). then connect those pairs in parallel to create an 8 ohm load in bridge mono. u might need more power than the amp has tho and i think im looking too deep into this haha

hey brian, just a shot in the dark here, but maybe you could demo the new American DJ jewel LED? It's a white moonflower effect that looks like the old American DJ Roto pods. I used 4 of them on my rig and they really lit up a room with a nice effect.. Thanks to the people who replied with my polarity issue! I'm gunna call JBL today probably find out what they have to say...

You can also use Banana clips if you want. That's an easy convert from 1/4. Just go to the local gear shop and get some banana ends :)

That's always tough. It's been my experience that your chances of getting into a club increase if you either know someone at the club or are a club goer (a regular) at the club you want to work at

Yeah that'll actually work. If you run your subs bridge mono paralel, you'll dip the XTi1000 down to a 4 ohm load. This will give you a total of 1400 watts. So, you end up with 600 watts top end. If I were you, I would think about something even bigger, though. if you spent a few extra bucks and got the XTi 2000, you'd get 2000 watts in Bridge Mono 4 ohms which would give you 1200 watts TOP END! When it comes to Subs, the more top end, the better IMO

If something could go wrong something will go wrong...keep it simple brian trust me,when your on a gig the last this you need is somthing going wrong.

Great Brian,,,i might buy one of the 2000s today!!! you can answer one liner and i know that ohms etc is mind blowing but.....4 jbls at 8hms each would take it to 4 ohms a side...do the horns effect the ohms rating or is the whole of each cabinet rated.....confusing.... anyway great to have you back........regards jason

depends on how serious you are about NOT burning out speakers... have an amp twice the rated power of the speakers, and you will not burn out speakers... having amps matched to the wattage of the speakers will fry equipment, worse thing you can do - amp that is way undersized for the speakers. I run racks of crown macro-tech 5002's

What I would do is pick up ANOTHER 2000 (or better yet, a 4000). Run the PV SP118 bridge mono on 1 amp which will give you 1600 watts @ 8 ohms (400 watts top end) on the 2000 (or 2400 watts with the XTi 4000 which is 100% top end) With the other XTi2000, run your top cabs stereo 4 ohms which would give you 800 watts per side (300 top end per side).....

Australian prices for the XTI amps. and this is RRP XTI 1000 $1 599.00 XTI 2000 $1 999.00 XTI 4000 $2 899.00 and these are the amps i first looked at. i might actually buy the XTI 1000 for around $1 190.00 i need to start charging more :P.

just ordered Crown XTi 1002 to try and push two EV EXX 15's, do you think it will fly? I agree on powered speakers, great for live music. bands or even karaoke but when you DJ, who wants to walk behind a speaker pole to babysit you levels?

thx. well we went with the 1000 right now and are going to test today to see how it is. we don't play at large venues so i'm hoping this will do for us in the smaller club scene etc etc. i mean, we usually have to turn down anyway. we're just looking to have some "thump" coming through our two peavey 18" subs! until today, we've had zero subs and zero thump so you think this would be pretty good? we only play for like less than 300 people normally.

Hmm well, you could, but the 602 or even the 402 in bridge mono should do the trick as well with more than 100% top end :)

The subs you are using I don't believe have built in crossovers, that is why you would use a electronic crossover for them. Most electronic crossovers allow the engineer to change which frequency and the gain of the frequency unlike a passive crossover which is set at a crossover point with no gain control. Electronic crossovers usually allow for more headroom. Also an electronic crossover is used in high wattage situations where the signal goes through the crossover before amplification, where passive the signal is amplified and then is routed through to the crossover.

The whole cabinet is rated :)

Also, what I said in the first part was wrong. If you tried to run things the way you want, you would be putting an 8 ohm load on one side and a 2 OHM LOAD ON THE OTHER WHICH WILL BLOW SOMETHING UP!! DON' T DO IT!

best part is the crossover and seein that its 3200W bvridged, couldent imagine hooking my 1500W RMS technical pro sub up, this amp is my dream, yet lookin at the 4000W crown, tell me your thought on which crown s best and worth most for power thx, and great amps dude! -jay

if you use active crossover, you want to bypass the passive one, first of all. you will waist power if you go thru a passive crossover, also, if your mids are crossd at 1Kh passive, and you have a active crossover witch crosses hi and mid at 1400 hz than you are in trouble... whare did the 1001 up to 1399 hz go?? (i know, slopes and stuff, but you get the picture)

First see if there is something wrong with channel one and not what you have plugged into it. Take the wires from channel and swap them with 2. If channel one still is acting up, then it's channel 1. I would contact QSC to get the unit fixed or to get a replacement.

hey guys, this is awesome. i'm thinking of getting the Crown XTi 1000 for my band. i'm a drummer and we don't have any bottom end right now...ZERO subs....i have a question: we were going to get two Peavey PV118 Subwoofers . will the Crown XTi 1000 drive both subs in bridge mono? i'm confused on how that works. those 2 subs will handle 400 watts a piece so we would need 800 watts total. so this crown would be great if it would drive both at 1000 watts! will it? thanks!

yeah these new crown amp rock pretty hard specially the Itechs I have an Itech6000 with over 900hrs of use... never let me down. I can do any event with jus a pair of jbls vrx932 and Itech6000, compac clean and very very powerfull, what do u think about he Hqnet software and system architect. arent they fantastic? keep it rockin bro..

Our school has an XTi 1000 running in 70v mode to an EV speaker outside for our football games. Could I bring my laptop (since I'm the guy that does the music for the games) and hook it up to my laptop and perhaps have an on screen graphic EQ?

You know, thoes JRX speakers don't feel anywhere near that heavy (the RCFs are probibly a BIG upgrade from the JRX). I know that's what it says, but they are pretty light, really. OK then, let's talk about COST. Let's say we wanted to do 4 top cabs. As it stands now, I have about $900 invested in my amp/top cabs. If I wanted to add another set of identical speakers, it would run me around $400 if I bought B stock. $600 retail

is there an adapter or something i can get so this can receive those red and white rca cables?
