I dont see how a 4 chapters of 4 payments worth is a good alternative. Sure there are minigames when progressing in the current battle pass and you can earn cool skins but thats it? Artistically and quality wise, the skins in dota 2 is much worse than League of Legends while also offering 3 or more times the price tag. THe minigames are funny but they're lacking. Valve fans so delusional by defending a company that preys on customers by implementing the first ever battle pass which has plagued many other modern triple A games and degenerate gambling in the games earning billions while mostly abandoning Team Fortress 2 support, Counter Strike 128 tick and new Valve Anti Cheat, no more Half Life 3, and no more Portal game. Valve games alone make so much money and pair that with the amount of games being sold on steam, theres no excuse for any valve games to have many flaws. Somehow gamers still sees Gaben as a god which Gaben deserves but only in the past.
Dota is at a certain point responsible for the battle pass infestation we have today since the very first battle pass was the 2013 compendium, the system has changed a lot since then but Valve developed this type of monetization waay before fortnite and the post massification.

Yeah you got free skins but there times where the luck so bad and also Dota 2 skins arent even that good lmao. Artistically, League of legends skins are much more well designed while generally costing 3 times less. a freakin shield of mars in the steam market costs about a hundred dollars or more, a freakin shield.

I love that Valve is FINALLY caring about the lore. I've been so interested in this fictional universe since I started playing in 2015, and all this mental investment is paying off at last! I really hope Valve continues to make events like this.
I love it, also together with the comic it became a engaging system worth my time. You could not force to spend a dime on battlepass level skips, but here I will buy all side quests and finish each chapter, waiting for more.
It's so good that I did buy all of the pathfinders bundles. And I found that I like to play way more heroes than I did, like Visage, Beastmaster, Razor, Lion, Warlock, and many many others.
I have played Dota 2 in bursts every year since 2013. Hadn’t played since May 2023 but Crownfall brought me back. I put in money to buy all four content packs without thinking. I’ve played over 3k matches of this game, and this the kind of content I’d love to reward the devs for.
Crownfall is one big improved cavern crawl from 2018. It even let you choose to pay or not, you can still finished the main quest for free. Give you chances to earn free arcana, discounted items, and discounted paths in the current event. Comparing this to the most recent BP of this game, I would buy all the path packs if I have token for discount.

The event is really good, it’s for everyone and not only for the sweaty pigs that plays all day. Also you get a lot of free items and the content is amazing (minigames, comics, voice lines, expanded lore) but there’s a problem with Crownfall, the doubledown tokens with the immortal draft. That shit broke the mmr system, now we have 14k players and many people that abuse the tokens to gain mmr without doing anything
After 3 years of not playing i had the desire to play 1-2 games, saw the event and i found it interesting and now i started to grind a bit to get through the levels. Its a nice addition tbh
One of my favorite things with these events are the comics that tie into them. Expanding on the story and making us tie in with the characters more and more likely to get sets for them
The new way to progres in Crownfall compared to the cavern horror cave is awesome , never bothered to finish a cavern event non at all , but boooi did I farmed the heck out of crownfall because you have so many option to play and progress at the same time .
I like how the progression has story and a map thrown on top of it. Makes it more interesting then just clicking on a flat line that gives rewards that have nothing to do with one another.
I have legitimately gotten three arcana’s through crown fall and it’s been such a driving force for me to get back into Dota as a long term player, it’s fun to with all the mini stuff they include, to the point I didn’t even consider it a battlepasss
also crownfall is divided into 4 chapter and each one span at least 1 month. so around $7-$8 a month! that quite steal. compared to old battlepass. the grind drive you insane. that model only cater to the whale. while crownfall everyone got valuable reward. free player got at least basic skin, candy caravan. entry paid player, like me got a bit more, those basic skin became shining, got creep skin. and last, spenders? those 4 treasure is available for them. 4 with atleast 10 skins each. it's a lot!
The event is what got me back into dota 2. I still despise that items from treasures can't be sold, otherwise i'd have spent to open chests and to do the additional paths which still seem tempting
What upsets me is that, it did not give me any rerolls after winning my games yesterday. They say they are working on it but I doubt they will refund my rerolls.
Of all the “battle pass” crownfall is the best I’ve ever played, super fun to play with all the mini games and features , the arcanas , sets and immortals are awesome , can’t say anything more positive than this
I've been wondering what that big crownfall thing is that greets me every time I log in. Definitely a nice take on battlespaces and seemingly it's even retroactive as I can click on multiple seasons / acts (or w/e they are called) Also there are some games with battlepasses where the free option is better than the paid one
It's like playing Ludo and Monopoly, quite fun. The rewards are also great. The only small problem is that it makes some ranked matches look like a joke because some players prioritize picking champions to get tokens for the event rather than to win the game (this was somewhat fixed after Chapter I of the event by introducing Scrap Tokens).
I miss the old in-game challenges. Like the Phantom Assassin contract kill when her Arcana came out. Or the one where we had the big beast that marched down lanes. But I think DotA 2 has always had one of the best systems for monetization. Except for DotA plus. There's some stuff in there that should just be free. Namely the avoid feature.
I only got one Arcana from the candyshop so far, unfortunately it's the same I got from the gift bag years ago which is Pudge's Arcana. I hope rng blesses me with an Arcana I don't have yet soon 🙏
I have got 3 arcanas so far with the Candy Shop: legion commander, ogre magi and monkey king. That's ~100$ saved. And hoping for more. I just wish we could at least gift things from the Candy Shop, but oh well.
The only problem I have with crownfall is that a certain minigame is extremely annoying. We all know what I'm talking about. Also the very fun chapter 3 release date thing.
Except, crownfall is a storyline, which no-one seems to actually follow, unrelated mini-games and repetitive cash grab. There really isn't much difference between a battlepass and the crownfall. Play the game normally(with added caveats) to progress further into it. If you want the really good stuff, you have to pay (4 times...). And there isn't even a worthwhile fun mod attached to it. I don't know if I am alone in this nowadays, but I would have much preferred a mod map; anything like dire-tide, slitbreaker, aghanim's, ( and others whose name i can't remember like the new year-beast).
From the candy shop this event i got: Frondillo Gold upgrade (600 DOLAR+ Value in market) and CM Arcana, and a bunch some immortals from old treasures. Im very happy lol
Kinda funny if you think about it, although they maybe not be the first ones to do the battlepass, Valve popularized it to fund the internationals, now other companies are starting to do it. Now valve is goin with fun and free event with buyable luxuries.
My only complaint is not contributing to the pricepool. Every battlepass purchase went a huge way in making pro dota worth it but the idea of putting only money from cards and stuff into it feels a bit bad. It is better to generally just contri ute via this too. But event wise this is awesome. No new crazy game mode forcing me to play a multiplayer rpg with random strangers. Also i am kind of invested in the story. I think it is better cause of the story here.
U see its awesome actually i got three arcana ye i spend some moeny becouse i wanted double rank tokens and that was free rolls but u see the thing is this event right now is one of the reassons that im playing each day and i wish they continue it back to back
Remember when battlepass was part of the game and it's called "progression skill tree"? It was free and came with the game and you play to unlock them. Now, they pay wall you to participate 🤦♂️

Ok so I agree this may be a better system for the community overall but I prefer having an option to just pay from start and have everything unlocked from the start (dsnt change anything for those who wanna grind) also I'm tired of people pickibg bad hero or hero they cant play just because of cavern this is terrible
DotA 2 is always been good and creative, unlike league which I haven't touch for a while cause I'm so fed up with the patches and feels like I'm playing the same old stuff since 2011 Btw I'm able to play every hero especially when there's an event like this, and rediscovering my strength to where I think I'm bad at,I know I'm biased to where I think I'm really good at and always shock to see myself playing hero that amuse me like" this is easy?"
Battlepasses have been shit since the start, you pay for content and I on paper you get that content by playing, however due to time limitations the company itself sets its a rush to get that content “dont play another game unless you dont want to get the lv100 reward you already paid for” Also some limited time cosmetics make sense but a lot exclusive limited time cosmetics is just bc they were in a battle pass and ups now its gone, basically just capitalising on FOMO
I got 3 arcanas from this event and i only spended arround 75 dolars...so not only ive got itens worth the money i spent also extra ones for the chests that i bought and got extra drops...maybe some companies should learn one or two things about how to make your costumers spend more money without robing them. Im looking at you Wizards of The Coast.
Personally got 2 arcana from the caravan. Zues and Pudge. Unfortunately I have both already so I traded them to my friends. My bud got Rubic.... also already had it. but still I can confirm arcana do drop
Left dota (and asked for perma account deletion per e-mail) in 2022; Reason - didn't wanna see any more "BUY NOW" ads (and the toxicity in-game was the stuff of legends). I also knew that monetization in that game was only going to increase to never-before-seen highs... Now, I'm seeing just how correct I was in my prediction 💸
Battlepass probably had good content, but it's kind of boring and bland to just pay to progress. I get that it is a way to support Dota, but I don't mind if they would also increase the paid content in the Crownfall, the event is so fun and innovative unlike most games that just rewards you for paying more. I enjoyed the storyline so far and finding out more about the heroes, especially CM I didn't know she have a foul mouth.
Don't praise Dota 2 though.. it has flawed matchmaking , is prejudiced towards the pro scene, has slow updates which are few and far between, extensive monetisation of content , and a woeful social credit system in the behaviour score system.
first time i am actually invested in dota2 and i only cameback to dota2 bcs of turbo. turbo made me actually like dota, bcs all pick was insufferable for me
I love Crownfall, but the thing I hate does not have anything to do with all my tokens now that I am finished with the content. I have 473 unused tokens across the 3 acts. I wish there was something I could spend them on, maybe they could have made it so the temple and library locations would accept infinite tokens.
I honestly do not like this kind of system. It doesn't have anything good with ranked games, only people who "try" different heroes and feed and trow game. They should lock this system only for unranked games. Also, arcanas for Venge and Sky are bland in my opinion. They can't compare to old true Arcanas like Pudge, Shadow Fiend or Lina.
Dont worry about missing the story - it's something that kindergarten children would come up with. Also, the characters are terrible. Huge fail in this regard, not to mention the stupid minigames and the lag they cause.
i think dota crownfall sucks, less inspiration for personas, less inspiration for imortal treasures with effects since these 3 treasures suck (sorry) and lack of event such as aghanim battlepass were the top 3 best moments of my life. EVEN as a f2p. aghanim was a banger. just a mode u couldve played all day. my solid opinion is that they should do both or make cronwfall have instead of boring sets imortals, and have special unique mode instead of little silly gamemodes (dont get me wrong is fun)

Even I, a literal and pure ranked grinder that will never touch Turbo and Unranked even with a 10 foot pole get some meaningful progress in Crownfall. It's cool that you wanna directly support the devs but can that be done just by buying Hats they sell? I don't want to play an event locked behind a paywall anymore after getting a taste of Crownfall.
