I love that the dad isn't even angry. He's just concerned for his son and wants to ensure he's safe. I like that.

The ending with Ryo losing his legs and the dad just going "fuck it I'm deleting the sun" just hits different.

Manly: "She collects bones!" Ryo: "But she's nice to me!" Manly: "YOU HAVE NO BONES TO TAKE!"

Finally a horror game where the dad isn't horrible and genuinely loves his kid in a nice way.

Dev here! Oh man, I guess this is what I miss for going to sleep early! Haha, thank you SO much again for playing another one of my games! I totally loved watching you play, and it always feels like such an honor when you do! Okay but the dad saying "I'll drown this world in darkness if it means keeping you safe." Warmed my heart. My gods I wish he had more screen time :(

I like to think that in the True End, after patching up Ingram, the dad was just like "Whelp guess I've got two sons now! Neat!" Not gonna lie though that ending made me smile like a dork, it's so wholesome and cute ;v; The witch's design was really pretty though, love the mask and dress.

"I think a bridge will do." Summons bridge and leaves Probably the most passive aggressive way I've ever seen someone get old to leave not gonna lie

"Mmm, no thanks. One kid is enough for me." That guy's credit score must be sky high

I haven't seen anyone point this out yet, but when Ryo disobeyed the witch, she took away his legs. Ryo's dad also has no legs... Also it was never explained exactly how the dad learned magic, or how he knows the witch's weakness is scarecrows. Methinks the witch may have "adopted" more children than just Ryo.

"Trust Your Mom" Yes, because trusting your mom always leads to good things in the games that Manly plays.

I really appreciate how they don’t force a redemption on the abusive mother. So many things are like “all you need is loooove”, and ignore the realities of abusive family members. In this one, the mom is an unforgivable, abusive piece of shit and dies! It’s nice to see that for once! And it’s also nice that the kid still tried anyway because that IS what a kid would do for someone so nice! I love this one!

Oh my gosh I love the dad. Just straight up "The sun is a threat to my son. No." And like, that's a power move if I've ever heard one. I love it.

I appreciate the fact that anytime manly reads out the word potion it's in the "potion seller" voice

I love how in the second ending, the dad's first reaction isn't 'oh hey, I'll just sew him up since he's still in his scarecrow form' it's 'I'm going to kill everything on earth by plunging us into eternal night so my son doesn't die lmao'

This game seems like it could be a great folktale. Story of a boy who was tricked by a witch and brought tragedy. A cautionary tale to not trust strangers.

The only thing negative I have to say about this game is that there isn't enough of it. It's got a ton of charm and I want to see more.

Not sure if I prefer this to It's Not Me It's My Basement or not, but I absolutely enjoyed this. Ryo's innocence is believable enough due to his sheltered upbringing, all the designs are quite nice which isn't a surprise for this developer, and the story worked well for me. The bad ending where Ryo's father makes night last forever, while obviously bad for the entire world, is at the same time touching as it shows just how much Ryo means to him. It's the perfect foil to the awful relationship Venna has with Ingram, and I just loved that she's ultimately defeated by her "adopting" Ryo being enough to make him count as family to Ingram. That's a fun workaround on a curse.

I think the Crow/Scarecrow brother relationship is absolutely adorable with that ending!

Ingram: Do you wanna know how I got these scars? My mother was a crow...and a fiend. And one night, she goes off crazier than usual. My bro, Ryo gets the kitchen knife to defend himself. Mommy doesn't like that. Not...one...bit. I try to hold her off while he runs away. She says, "Why so serious?" Ryo had time to get away but I couldn't escape. "Why so serious?" She sticks her claws in my mouth - "Smile for mommy!"

The dev has quite the niche in this "wholesome horror" genre. I want more of it!

I honestly thought the second ending was pretty cool/interesting. Seeing the dad of Ryo act so overprotective to the point of being like, 'I'll destroy the world/prevent the sun from ever coming up so I can protect my son', was very cool. It's hard for me to explain, but I just really like the vibe I get from the second ending. Don't get me wrong tho, I still love the good ending the most.

It’s a small detail, but I really love it when Manly alters his voice quality to fit each character/situation. Like covering his mouth to make the muffled speaking of a mask & moving closer or farther away a bit to give a sense of depth. Just those little details make the story feel truely alive when Manly narrates/reads anything.

I like the contrast between Ingram and his mom. Venna pretends to be nice, but is only using Ryo and tries to murder him the moment he isn't doing what she wants. Ingram is abrasive and edgy, but he tries his best to keep Ryo from danger and in the end puts his own safety at risk to protect Ryo.

Manly: "Warnings, Blood and gore, etc..." Also Manly: "Yep. Typical stuff"

The mask voice makes me feel more involved in the environment of the game. I appreciated that more than you think, Manly

I got so used to this kind of game having a "true" end which is just a bad ending where you realize how dark and horrific the plot really is, that it having a wholesome and happy true ending caught me off guard.

Crows are brilliant animals, all things considered. They could solve puzzles, use traffic lights, recognize faces, and more. The crows that live near my grandparents’ apartment building dip their food in the pool so it goes down easier.

Crow: she helped you because you don't have anything she wants kid Ryo literally the next night: I'll share all my father's knowledge with you for free!

I love this game because: 1, I love the dad’s design (mainly his hair) 2, at the beginning of this game it’s so wholesome but then… it gets a… disturbing later on. 3 I. Love. The. Story. Line. It also has really good grammar

The way that the dad was willing to take away the sun to keep his son Ryo safe really hits me differently. The person who makes these games are so good at these stories, they really get you attached to the characters.

Ingram was such a carry of saving the day, kinda edgy too but I like him.

Ryo having no common sense especially when the Crow told him literally at the beginning to do a simple thing to be safe makes me always lose my mind. But hey the True Ending was Wholesome

I'm pretty sure Ryo's dad is Ingram's biological dad. Since his name was never given well, just call him dad, anyway dad said he made Ryo with magic with a lock of his own hair, so in essence Ryo is biologically Dad's son and when Ryo gave Ingram his stray to eat, it works for some reason even though the curse said he had to consume the blood of a relative to break it. Also, other evidence suggest dad met Venna is how dad looks; scar across the face and missing legs. the same way Venna tore away Ryo's legs in that one ending.

The ending made my cry. I struggled with not having a dad myself and a horrible relationship with my brother... So i felt reallt touched with how happy Ryo is to have a big brother, one that he have an actually good relationship too. Not many kids get to experience a brother in their lives.(or even, just a brother that's nice)

the dad should've had more involvement in the story, not saying this as a critique or a bad thing or anything its just i really found the ending where he was gonna like delete the sun or whatever (lmfao) to save his kid really interesting, and yknow if you like a character you wanna see more of them lol

I find it funny when the hero is given a choice to transport the item to point A and if they accept it... they use it. When they refuse or try to come up with a solution... they do something stupid rather then taking it to a point where they are safe then throwing it out.

The artist really improved! Loved seeing Embry being happy. And the Doc being their third parent was cute. True end is cute as well.

You actually can’t use carving pumpkins to make pie or any food. Sweet pumpkins are used for that. They’re smaller and more dense then carving pumpkins. Sweet pumpkins have more flesh to make pies with. So you don’t use a carving pumpkin for pies at all. Sadly I don’t think any of these pumpkins will ever be a delicious pie

I think the dad died at the second bad ending because you see a pumpkin with a hat and some clothes as if the dad was a pumpkin the whole time and used the last of his magic to stop the sun from rising after using alot to stop the witch and turned back into a pumpkin after and even more the last words he says are "You'll see me in the morning." Because he knows he is going to turn back into a pumpkin after using all his magic and Ryo won't see him in the morning because there is not going to be "next morning" it also explains why he is so obsessed with saving magic. (P.S) Also his clothes are quite pumpkin themed. 1:05:56

I love how Ryo looks, both day and night, and his dad too! Scarecrow characters are one of my favourite types, and this one looks so cute and pure!

So can we talk about how powerful dad is in this game?

Watching this again because this game's great, but after several revelations about my own situation... Ingram's (crow boy's) diary entries hit differently. The part with "she's getting easier to upset" and his reaction to watching another mother were the most heartbreaking.

God, Ingram was basically the player screaming at Ryo to wake up or you going to die or turn the world into a meat factory, jesus.

That true ending is wholesome. Very wholesome

Ayyyy Doctor Delight is alive :D At least... For now. Let's be real, if this is anything like the last game, I'd not be surprised if things go to heck. After thoughts- I like the true ending. It was really nice honestly. The other two were pretty foreseeable tho.

I like this games story and characters a lot, but I feel they were setting up something between the father and the witch and it just didn't go anywhere. With that serious look he gives Ryo when insinuating he is a witch you would think there would be a bigger climax between the two?

To everyone thinking this whole thing could've been avoided if Ryo had listened to his father and the crow... my counterargument is that this whole thing could've been avoided if Ingram explained at *any* point what his mom did/wants. He was too vague with "it's dangerous, she's not a good person, she'll ask for payback," etc. so while ryo was really bullheaded, I don't blame him for questioning what he's been told.

The true ending was very cute, sad what the dude gone through but at least he finally has a family, very cuuuuute. Also the alternative reality where that poor kid finally has their parents AND a third one. They definitely deserved it after what they been through

I'm so glad. I really liked this video a lot. I'm gonna try to do spoilers under the cut. SPOILERS I really like how Venna's magic is more word specific than blood relations being the cure to the curse. I don't know if Venna herself knew this, but it's satisfying to see how her manipulative ways ended up backfiring on her. She considers Ryo family, so of course eating hay could break the curse on Ingham. Side note: I'm glad Embry gets a happy little family in this. I felt so bad for them in the last game.

I have a theory: You know how the dad and the Witch, look similar as if there the same person? And when Scarecrow boy (I don't remember he's name) said this as a joke, ------> 'Maybe your the witch' (or something like that) He got mad, What if, Scarecrow Boys dad and the witch are siblings, and the Witch turned evil or was cruel to the Dad so he hated her? Edit: I just remembered 'Scarecrow Boys' name is Ryo

I'm a bit sad we didn't get a bit more insight into Venna. Like, maybe it's just my natural simp nature talking, but, one wonders what caused her to be like that. Was she faking her change to being a sweetheart, or did she actually learn that abusing your child doesn't give good results? I dunno, I've never been a big fan of 'just evil' characters.

Witch: "Here, take this potion and pour it in the chalice." Boy: "Sure mom!" *Walk back to down. Wait until morning, then look to the edge of the forest with Dad beside you.* "Witch: "Son. Why did you not listen to-" *Pour chalice onto the floor with a sly grin.*

Off topic, I wonder if "It's not me, It's my basement" is aftermath. I mean of course Embry's parent gone missing but how about Dr. D? In this video showed that Embry and Dr. D have met before but Embry (in other game) show no familiar feeling about Dr. D you know. And Dr. D was there for them. Maybe Embry had other thing with them that's not cause from trauma? I don't know, someone make some theory that more logical than my sentences because I'm bad at making theories.

I speak from experience as I say: That's some expert psychological manipulation on Venna's part. Really following all the necessary steps and saying the right things !

I actually like the characters design in this game, and all three stories are pretty nice! Despite generic "rpg maker" subgenere game which I have stigma for, this game actually appealed to me!

"The sun isn't going to rise tomorrow." That ending was pretty darn depressing. Of course it has an interesting ending with his legs cut off bit after watching please don't trust strangers nor wonder off in the woods. It's close to Halloween but stay safe you don't know what could happen if your stupid.

I'm just saying: if Haley was the protagonist, they would be smart about it.

That "Would you like to have a Mom?" scene had some big ara ara~ energy and I approve of it.

headcanon for Embry: they went down the basement and the doctor was alive. he also resurrected/coincidentally found the parents alive (i mean, there's magic in universe). Embry finds them all okay and get a new parent (a throuple if you will) and get back a happier life

This game is super cool. I wish we could've gotten more of Ingram honestly, I feel like he doesn't stick around for as long as I needed to care about him. I wish Ryo's dad would've gotten some more story too. I feel like the game will have a sequel, and it better because I really love this game's aesthetic and I love Ryo to death :,>

I think that Ryo's father might also be Ingram's biological father. They both have black hair and pale skin. Ryo's father definitely seemed to know more about Venna than he let on. Also, a witch and a warlock living in the same town and not knowing each other, that's just absurd. A former relationship between them could explain why Ryo's father is missing his legs and has that scar. Maybe whenever their relationship broke apart, she went full "if I can't have you then nobody will" and tried to kill him. Then he lost his limbs in the ensuing battle, but managed to escape. He may not have known about Ingram even being concieved, so would have no idea of his son's existence.

Witch: So I had a kid and he left Manly: ~Nice~ 😎

You should play Cemetery Mary! It’s a much longer visual-novel-style game by the same developer, and it’s really really really good.

Spoilers: got to the end It should be noted that Venna (the witch) did not automatically kill Ingram (her son). She cursed him when he was being a defiant son. To her eating children is morally permissible, and has nothing to feel guilt about. Kinda like when we eat cows, pigs and sheep, they have feelings and they cry when they are being slaughtered. Yet we don't see anything wrong with it because its delicious, at least to most humans. It was only when Ingram tried to kill her to protect Ryo, did she attack. Venna didn't even try to hit his vitals, at least from what we are shown, and her dialog implies she still sees him as family and cares for him, she simply carved his mouth in anger.. So in away, there is humanity in the witch. She's simply a cannibalistic baba yaga of the forrest who sustains herself with human meat. Pretty simple compared to Cooking Companions.

Hold up the father can't walk thats how ryu ends up in one of the endings, meaning its like one of the ways she leaves her victims, and he's a witch... yooooooooooo Dad was her husband it would make sense as to why the straw worked on the little crow cause he's infused with Dads DNA!!!!!

_Two morals to the story:_ Pay attention to warnings of danger, especially from talking birds :^) and Don't act like you have straw for brains. It's only good for hearts, just like the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. Also big brothers (and probably sisters) can be awesome. I really enjoyed the story, characters, and art - sad and horrible and heartwarming too.

Scarecrows scaring crows as usual or maybe something more specific. I really liked the world of this game. It was cool to see other characters from the devs other works here. Sure Ryo was pretty naive but what kid isn't. I do wonder how the whole being a scarecrow and walking among other scarecrows that are just standing there must feel like. Hayley did emote at least according to Ryo. Maybe he can talk to scarecrows or scarecrows could have ghosts or souls possessing them. Which is why even they too became meaty. Unless there were meat flowers and meat pumpkins too. All of it gives me a wadanohara vibe. Like when the red sea took over and everything became bloody and filled with gore. Moon was also red. Also the fact that Ingram sorta reminds me of a certain teacher except he smiles for real. Also the fact that the dad may have had a rather interesting past. He may have been a fearsome witch with unfathomable power, enough to perpetuate a single night as well as create Ryo. But has grown peaceful and doesn't want to reminisce about the past. Also the witch after taking over, alluded to friends which I think were all sorts of bad demons, perhaps Halloween themed. The happy ending was really cute. Ingram back to normal and is able to live alongside Ryo, watching the fireworks and even having his own kind of stitching to be a part of the family. Pretty nice after such a horrific night.
