Really GREAT Work , and what's more - all 4 vocal voices seem not to be changed at all: everything is sung exactly as was written by Bach . However key moments are perfectly empasised as, say first ninth repetition of Crucifixus motiff followed by "...et etiam pro nobis" 0'43''. Breathtaking, indeed. Or octave ( E - E ) jump at 1'43 "s-E - E pultus est .." surrounded by drums' stacatto ;) ? Excelent balance between The Word and expressive, metal music. Should be played by all radio stations , worldwide, 7 times a day ...
Bach was so good at dissonance it's disgusting, also his music was really well structured so you can pretty much play it on any instrument Edit: also you kicked ass on this!
Bach takes the simple text: "Crucifixus etiam pro nobis sub Pontio Pilato, passus et sepultus est.," (For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried) and through each note, wrests every moment of its tragedy and heartbreak. You capture it with a powerful beauty that goes straight to the heart. I hope you will take on the entirety of the B Minor, but we'll take what we can get! Danke!
Well done! I am always most happy to discover musicians who are interpreting J. S. Bach in new ways. As long as it is done with good taste/ high degree of musicality. Which is the case here!
If you do a live concert of this mass (preferably from the ruins of an abandoned medieval church in Transylvania, illuminated only by naked fire), I will be there. This is exceptional.
I see lots of my baroque music specialist colleagues in the comments here... Selin, these videos bring me immense, ineffable joy. Your accuracy to the score is astounding- not to mention the incredible technical facility you possess! Please do all of the B minor mass!!!!
Funny .. Though I 've known this piece very well so far , from Classical Performances, THIS interpretation showed me some new details : Let's consider this : 'phrase' "..sub Pontio Pila-TO" , ending at 1'25'' ., where all four voices synchronize on this "...TO !!" , focusing the fault ? or maybe saying "..YOU !!". ?? That's Bach's unspoken Genius. And that's what is clearly seen in THIS Performance. Once more - GREAT Thanks.
JACOBINO! I'm thrilled you like it too...I have watched it five times already...am addicted. What fucking chops this man has! Have you heard a better high rock belt than this, EVER!? Maybe, perhaps in a great production of Jesus Christ Super Star. Hope you're well...and so tickled that we both loved this vid. I saw your face in the vid for The Thirteen and wanted to write the you...and then forgot. So I'm glad I ran into you here!
And why not- most of the b-minor Mass is an arrangement of earlier compositions. Bach frequently arranged/updated music of earlier composers he admired and this is in that tradition.
Thank you for your comment! For sure, you have a big responsibility if you adapt such a great piece of art to a modern genre. For me, it feels very good, so I hope that I found the right way to do this for metal!
Super Arbeit!!! Als Bach-fan bin echt begeistert. Ich frage mich ob "O furtuna" und vielleicht "Olim lacus colueram" aus Carmina Burana für so ein Arrangement qualifizieren würden :-D.
this is the coolest shit ever. i've always wanted to hear bach just played normal with metal instruments and singing WITHOUT the stupid orchestral backup. for some reason this is the only guy that ever did it right. hope you do more like this. also, i did a version sort of like this of the messiah overture on my channel. not anywhere near as good as this tho.
