CRUISE 5 WITH FATHER CLAUDE BOUCHER - ACHISALE 

Thank you for this interview Joab. In the 1980s I met Fr Boucher-Chisale in Mua Mission. The sense of peace and mission in Fr Boucher's work and this location was inspiring. SIx year later I started the PhD program at SOAS in London and spent the next 20 years engaged in research of the Gule Wamkulu, in Chewa villages in Bunda, Lilongwe and Nkhoma. Today I remembered Fr Boucher, after a dream of a very young African boy coming to me singing a French song. I decided to look up Fr Boucher and found your interview. Please continue to document this treasure. Gule Wamkulu is the visible expression of religion that is indigenous and significant to those that practice Nyau. In 2009 I spoke to Divinity students at Chancellor College and encouraged them to embrace this truly Malawian religious form; to document, to study with an open heart, and to bring the philosophy, theology and expressive forms of Nyau into the mainstream of Malawian culture, art and religion.

Mr.Joab Chakhaza, this time, you have gone very deep. I am a Mua boy,and my home is just 3 minutes walk from the museum. Watching your interview with Achisale,the man l have grown up knowing,and even served Mass in Church with,when l was a young boy,and when l was a Catholic, brought about a lot of fond and nostalgic memories of my beloved Mua.
