I'm amazed at the online backlash Princess received for not operating the three attractions on the Sun. I am a well seasoned amusement ride inspector with over 20 years in the industry. I also sit on the ASTM F24 Committee for Amusement Rides and Devises. We volunteer our time to collaboratively draft and publish consensus standards for things like design, construction, maintenance, operation, and inspection of amusement rides. All of this is to ensure the safety of the people who ride them. If something isn't 100% you should be thankful Princess is withholding operation and keeping the rides closed. Obviously there is an issue. We'll see you out there on the water, surrounded by the blue! Stay safe.

While I agree, they hyped the attractions as a selling point. To subsequently pull the attractions leaves them with egg on their faces.

Nothing wrong with the rides at all, the problem is the insurance company did not sign off on them or the premiums were too high. Nowadays, the insurance companies run everything in the business they either like you or if they don’t like your operation, they declined insurance.

we started cruising in 1995 and then many more cruises prior to covid. Cruises used to be calm, relaxed, restful, with a good quality of passengers on the ship. Its not what it used to be is it. What a shame.

My sister and her husband were on a world cruise for 180 days on Oceania Insignia. Another sister and I joined them for a 3 week segment from Dubai to Singapore. Best cruise experience of my life! And I have done over 100 cruises on 6 cruise lines- big and small ships. Life happens no matter where you are.

Why do people think life stops when you get on a long cruise? The lady was simply talking about life that happens everyday. If you think going on a cruise that lasts months is going to be one happy perfect experience after another stay home life doesn’t stop.

As for the world cruise experience, life happens. People don't think through the reality of being on a ship. We have cruise on a 14 day cruise. I wouldn't do a world cruise. My husband and I have traveled in a 28ft rv for up 2.5 months so far. We live in a 2400sq ft house. If you never travel in a small room or a small rv for longer that then a week, reality comes in quick. The true nature of people living together comes out. My hubby and I personally would not want to be gone from home that long.

In ref. to the Ultimate World Cruise, my wife and I did the same leg as mentioned. We met the nicest people, loved every second of it. No more drama than in your typical neighborhood. We would have loved to stay but unfortunately we have to work for a living. Nothing but love to Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas and to the crew and passengers. Can’t wait to sail with you again.

Signed up for 3 world cruises. The first was cut short because of Covid. Have completed 2 other world cruises. One 196 days and the other 180 days. Loved the cruises and signed up for another in 2026. Loved being on a smaller ship and most of the people I was in contact with.

I was on the NCL sailing where the passengers got left behind in Ketchikan. The captain was asked the following day during a Q&A if any passengers have been left behind on this particular sailing and he didn’t answer.

B shore excursions can be so much fun but some are very expensive. We don’t drink enough to use a drink package with alcohol but we do purchase the package that includes soda & coffee.

We've done 3 world cruises, all on HAL. Love them. They are different from other cruises. Most passengers on those were on it for the duration.

One of the benefits of a cruise is there is so much to do and different taste that you don't have to be together 24 hours a day. I would rather take the cruise then retire together and stay home, other wise it would be just as you said.

A lot of those types of cruises are actually a bunch of smaller cruises put together into one long one. So, you'll have some crew refreshes and changes to menus, entertainment, etc. ymmv between different lines though.

I'm honestly not sorry to see that Princess is not opening the thrill rides. I like cruising on Princess because I prefer a more traditional style. I'm not interested in wild rides; I am interested in relaxation, socialization, visiting new places and learning new things. If I wanted to ride a roller coaster, I could go to an amusement park!

I was on an msc cruise and we waited for an excursion van because it blew a tire, but they said over the intercom that their excursions were “ worry free” first time I had ever seen a boat wait for People during departure time but I guess that’s an MSC thing. Another reason why they’re my favorite.

Provided that I get to choose from any excursions offered (because excursions can range from anything from a hop on hop of bus to a helicopter ride up to the top of a glacier to go dog sledding) I'm gonna go with B. Unlimited Shore Excursions.

Funny to hear about Princess not opening those onboard activities. The ships are becoming amusement parks at sea, and it’s getting completely out of hand. Hard to believe they came to this decision AFTER installing all that equipment. 🤦‍♂️

I would prefer a free shore excursion package rather than free drinks. I don’t drink a lot of alcohol. I would actually prefer free WiFi but I know that is not an option. I have been on over 65 cruises and many excursions so there are not many excursions that I would like to try again.

I understand not having your hammock on the balconies, but I was wondering if you could ask John (I don't do any social media) if they could install posts on a section of their ships where passengers can put their hammocks like a lot of parks throughout the US is doing. This would also free up chairs on the decks and allow passengers to relax.

Hi Kyle! That is supposed to be the case. In this particular situation, when the family did not return with the final excursion bus and it was time for the ship to depart, the ship thought they had wondered off on their own or something. But that was not the case. What turned out to be the final bus was full and the bus driver told the family there was another bus coming for them. It never came... (It was an excursion transportation error.) After some time elapsed, the family called the port and another bus was sent, but they did not make it back in time and were left. Big mix-up and misunderstanding... The cruise line has already reimbursed the $9K for the fees. They vowed to reimburse all expenses as the family submits receipts. Have a great day!

B - Shore excursions. I always compare what I've spent on a cruise for drinks to what the package I would have bought costs. I do not limit my drinking at all & purchase whatever I want, whenever I want it. It always ends up costing me 100's of dollars less than the package - double that when you incude my wife who drinks a bit less.

About your poll, I spend WAY more money on excursions than I do on drinks. I probably spend less than $15 per day on drinks (including soft drinks). So, given a choice, I would take "free" excursions over drinks.

This one is difficult. It depends on the type of cruise. If it is port-intensive, I would enjoy the excursions. But if going to the same old places, the drink package wins out. So for this survey, I will go with A - Drinks

I would be very interested to know how a blood transfusion, especially a directed blood transfusion as mentioned here would work on a cruise ship. The testing that going into that donated blood and the recipient is quite extensive.

I will choose B based on the fact we are tiered high enough loyalty wise to get enough free drinks a day Having said that. It would depend on the itinerary. If it was port intensive then I would go with B…sea days intensive ie; TA Or TP then I’d choose A..

Agreed ,only been on one cruise ever.l,but had a great time ! ahi and will always tend to complain, but not necessarily to the right people who can fix the issue… Only had one negative incident on our cruise ..wish it hadn’t happened …but it was due to another passenger and not the cruise line, staff etc….in the end we enjoyed our cruise very much !

No world cruise for us- we need to go home and see our friends!! Too close for comfort staying that long on a ship- takes the novelty away, when you cruise so much! Our thrill is being off for a month or 2 then the thrill of coming back on!!

I would choose B - Shore Excursions UNLESS my free drink package could be used for cases of bottled water and if the value of the shore excursions was similar to the value of the drink package. to get $25 or $50 off of the price of an excursion or 2 is not enough of a value.

Dear Travel Scouts, Please add pacific typhoon to the hurricane report. I use Japan meteorological agency site but it may help folks who are planning cruises into the deep pacific regions. Cheers!

B, but I believe they would have to limit the numbers of guests per excursion.

B for sure but both would be very bad ideas. Free drinks for all passengers of legal age would lead to many more drunks, fights, and rowdiness. With free excursions they would fill up as soon as you can book them, would be large groups, lower quality excursions, and the more expensive ones like helicopter rides would vanish.

A - We do Caribbean cruises and like having a drink package for bottled water, some soda and specialty coffee.

Absolutely looooove to do a world cruise-but not at the current pricing- especially as a solo traveller.

B without a doubt, experiences above drinks. Core memories above a cup of soda or alcohol.

Princess was not able to get liability insurance on those rides. Nowadays, insurance companies run almost every single business in the world. if they think the liability is too much on anyone ride or service, they will decline to ensure you. And of course, without insurance, the banks will not loan you the money.

About the hammocks… don’t the Terraza Cabana’s on Carnival Firenze have hammocks ? What about the safety issue there ? I know it’s apples to oranges, but safety is safety.

I would prefer the B shore excursion, not a big drinker and am going on a cruise to visit and see as much as I can where ever I am. I would love to do a world cruise! The things she pointed out happen every day no just on a cruise ship unfortunately life happens no matter where you are.
