Yeah that can be a huge chunk of money if you’re not expecting it! Ever since the first cruise we pre-pay too. Just one less thing to worry about.

The cruise line uses it to meet there minimum wage...thus lowering there bottom line. The service worker never received a tip😔😔😔

Thank you! No, I don't have a specific video of sailing from New Orleans, but I do have a playlist of New Orleans videos of what to do and where to eat. We are actually going back next weekend so there will be new videos to come. As far as hotels, anyone in the downtown area will be nice! They are all 2 1/2 to 5 stars in that area, so I usually go with the one I can get the best deal on. I do have a PDF of what to do in NOLA if you are interested just send me an email.

Congrats on your first cruise! Be prepared to become addicted!!!

I will be glad to help. 1. porters are normally tipped $1 per bag; 2. $2-3; 3. gratuity will automatically be added, no need to tip extra, 4. not sure on this one as we do not go to the casino, 5. This is covered in the cruise line charged gratutites, but you can tip extra $10-20 if you feel they went above and beyond (same answer for #7), 6. If I feel the tour staff made our excursion special I tip $20, 8. they are paid well and do not expect tips. I hope this helps!

You can do so anytime before you sail. I usually add it at the time of booking so I know how much is owed for final payment.

At booking you can choose to prepay. If you can't find it online, call in and they will add it for you.

Look at the email you received for your booking confirmation. It will show if you have prepaid gratuities. Also, you can go into My Cruise Manager on carnival.com and view the cruise fare, etc. If you do not have the gratuities on there, this is where you can add them.

No, all of the gratuity goes to the crew members. They post a breakdown on their website of how much goes to each staff department.

Once you are logged into your booking you should be able to add gratuities. If you can't find it, call in and they will help you.

Unfortunately this is a practice from years gone by. In the modern era it has transformed into a subsidy for greedy employees. It's also a practice designed to oppress the common worker to make them feel they are being rewarded. Recently president Trump even suggested changing the law enabling business owners the right to keep gratuities for themselves. In practice they already do that. Do you tip the staff at McDonalds or KFC ? A couple paying 30 dollars per day adds up to 210 dollars for a weeks Cruise. Crew to passengers ratio is three to one , therefore if shared out equally adds up to 630 pw each plus whatever the Cruise company pays. Most of the staff are Agency workers and are not employed by the Cruise company therefore not entitled to any of the gratuities. If the company pays any of these workers any thing , this would form a contract and would entitle them to all benefits. I do not pay any gratuities to the Ship , but tip the room attendant and other deserving workers independently. If you wish to do the same , the first morning after boarding the Ship , go to the customer service desk and inform them you do not want them to put this charge on your account. Some people might regard this as you or me being cheap ,so in that case let them put up their rates for the wealthier travellers. Why should I tip somebody who maybe earning more than me ? The Cruise company has the power to charge a fare to cover their costs and it's up to me if I can afford it.
