I was on the anthem of the seas February 2022 and I weighed 409 It was hell, We were star class and our suites was way at the back of the ship . That walk was out of this world Next month we have a back-to-back on the Oasis of the seas I'm was determined to make it better I started walking 2 miles A-day I'm up to 10 miles A-day now and I weigh 345 pounds my goal is anything below 300

That’s awesome! Great work on the weight loss! I feel you on the long walks to the back of the ship. I had that on my Oasis cruise but it was 100% worth it for the view of the Aqua Theater. Have fun on the Oasis!

Thank you for watching! Enjoy your first cruise, and I wouldn’t worry about the walking. The great thing about cruises is you can do as much, or as little as you want. If you start to feel it’s too much don’t be afraid to spend some time at a show, musical venue, sitting by the pool, or even in your room.

Wonderful video!!! Thank you for sharing. I love cruising and am way overweight. For me the biggest problem is the commode and having enough room to open my legs while sitting. Most times I go to the handicap accessibility bathroom in public areas of the ship. I love what you said at the end of your video. I have build up my confidence by telling myself I will never see these people again and I get out there and participate in the fun game activities and dancing.

Ur comment helped me a lot. I'm 72 and 50lbs overweight plus I've got poor mobility. I'm worried about how I'd get up off the low toilets. And I'd not be able to use the shower over a bath as I can get into the bath. Knowing there's possibly disabled toilets in public areas was a godsend as I'll go use them. The adapted cabins are in parts of the ship I don't like. Too sea-sicky, or too noisy, or overlooked. Also I need to use a bidet to sit and soak. I'm not sure how I can create a makeshift bidet in my cabin. I can't squat low over a bowl. Got any ideas? Thanks. X

Hey Jason, thanks so much for the super helpful video. I’m sailing on the Harmony in July and have a balcony Boardwalk view. I’m worried about being able to enjoy my balcony at my size without feeling self-conscious since I’ve been reading that there’s almost no privacy on these balconies. My cabin is close enough to watch the aqua theater too and am looking forward to that :-) did you feel like you had enough privacy in the cabin and balcony? I’ll be in the cabin alone as well.
@TheJasonOtoole
@TheJasonOtoole Год назад
Hello! There definitely is a lack of privacy when on the balcony. Your neighbors can easily see into your balcony and everyone across the way can as well. Same thing with the cabin if your blackout curtains are not closed. Depending on your comfort level, some men would go on their balcony in their shorts with no shirt, or some women would sun bathe from the balcony and didn’t care if everyone could see them. But it’s a trade off from the ocean view balcony where you have a lot more privacy. I think it’s worth it to stay in a boardwalk view room if you grab one in the back and can see the show, it truly is an amazing experience. But i think I would go with an ocean view balcony if the room wasn’t located near the theater. Either way though you’ll have a blast on the cruise and remember to take advantage of using your desk chair on the balcony! It was a lot more comfortable!

Hi there! :) I read your comment and just wanted to say, I hope you have a wonderful cruise with a lot o positive, amazing experiences and memories! :) Actually, a friend of mine did the same and she was also on her own. She said that the people walking by, looked more nervous than the people on the balconies, because they also felt observed and made sure not to look at the balconies, so they won't give the impression of a nosy neighbour. ;) Please enjoy every minute of your cruise and don't allow anyone for a second to make you feel self-conscious. I know it's easily said, but you probably worked hard for the cruise and deserve it just like everyone else. Your vacation is about YOU, not any nosy neighbours, so you should enjoy it to the fullest! :) Who knows, this might also be a good opportunity to start a casual conversation as a solo traveller with a nice person or family. :) PS: I just googled for the aqua theater and this looks fantastic! I really want to go on my first cruise too.

Hi, good post. I'm also a larger person. I have some mobility issues. I generally use a scooter to get around on the ship because I can't walk distances, and I have balance issues, too. Regarding the cabin bathroom, because we don't always get an accessible cabin, I've resorted to using the shower at the ladies' locker room because there is a accessible stall with a bench. I make due with the toilet area in our cabin, but it's not the best for me. So far, I haven't had too much trouble with seating around the ships, but I agree that the balcony chairs are usually too narrow and uncomfortable for me.
@TheJasonOtoole
@TheJasonOtoole Год назад
Yeah for some reason the balcony chairs on the Independence of the seas are wider and I love it. The newer ships all seem to have the narrow balcony chairs.
@_quinndg_
@_quinndg_ Год назад
If you can’t walk far without having to use a scooter you should probably take some time to work on your health before complaining and expecting everyone to work around you. The reason things are to narrow and uncomfortable is because humans are not meant to be that big. It’s not natural nor healthy. There’s a difference between being a large person and being morbidly obese. A large person might be taller or have denser bones which makes them bigger, stronger and taller. If you can’t walk without the use of a scooter you are not a larger person. You are morbidly obese

Chairs with Arms are the worst. When I was on Oasis last year I had to request and armless chair in every restaurant. I'm 6'2" 450 and it was a bit embarrassing waiting for them to get me a chair
@WilliamJones-bg2on
@WilliamJones-bg2on 2 года назад
What I do is go beforehand to the specialty dining places or MDR and ask them beforehand. I also see if there’s a specific table I might like (I like to be out of the way). But Chops, Giovanni’s, and 150 Central Park all have those tables that have one chair and the other is the sofa up against the wall. Those work well, although there is not always a lot of room to squeeze between tables. But the hosts all knew I was coming so I was able to get the table on the end of the sofa. Everything works well with pre-planning. They are always very accommodating on the Oasis.

Ask your room steward if they have an optional chair option for your deck. They usually do
@WilliamJones-bg2on
@WilliamJones-bg2on 2 года назад
I’m with you on many of these things Jason. I am 6’3” and 500lbs. I have many of the same issues as you. I will say that I actually did find that some of the public bathroom had larger stalls. Especially near the elevators on deck 6 near the Schooner Bar. Quite frankly, that one was a lifesaver for me as it took me several days to find a way to maneuver a way to use the cabin toilet. And in regards to the MDR - the first day we went to the head waiter and specifically requested a table for two (just my wife and me) and a chair with no arms. They had some and that chair was at our table every night of the cruise. The same with the specialty dining. You can get chairs with no arms or those tables that have one chair and the sofa seating. Even at Johnny Rockets one of the staff went over to Playmakers and got me a chair with no arms when he saw me struggling. Royal is very accommodating with their passengers. Whatever they can do, they will. And their crew is the best. You just have to ask and be a little pro-active. Living this way is indeed difficult.
@TheJasonOtoole
@TheJasonOtoole 2 года назад
Yeah being overweight definitely makes some things more challenging, but as long as you come in with the expectations set we can make it work! And like you said being proactive helps a lot! I’m heading on independence of the seas this next weekend, and excited to see how that ship compares to the freedom and oasis!
@WilliamJones-bg2on

@@TheJasonOtoole it’s definitely a learning experience with each new cruise. I’ve only been on 2 so far and the next one this June. First in a Junior Suite on the Adventure of the Seas. That was pre-COVID and I was aimost 100lbs lighter. I’m not sure if the bathroom was bigger, but the shower was a tub/shower combo which does provide more room and the toilet was angled instead of straight and stuck back like in the room you showed. My next cruise was last October on the Oasis of the Seas in a standard balcony cabin and it was a difference. Being bigger with the bathroom just like you showed was a challenge. My saving Grace was my cabin was 20 steps from the public restroom in the hallway near the elevators and it had a couple larger stalls. Regarding the shower size too - always remember there are larger showers in the fitness center. They are private and more people use them than you would think. Have a good time on your upcoming cruise.

I’m not sure if there would be a way to use a bidet with the toilets there, but I believe some staterooms on Royal ships do have bidets but they are the full suites. I would reach out to rccl to confirm though. Other option too would be to bring a portable bidet and get an accessible room which has hand rails and more space in the restroom area. Hope this helps, and happy cruising!
